1. I can not right click to paste in the user name or password. - Important if I can not be arsed to get out of bed and only using the spare wireless mouse.
2. User names don't seem to even save - I'm guessing they are meant to as you have a drop down box arrow.
3. I'll be changing all my shortcuts to the bin/ExeFile.exe until this is more streamlined for people with multiple accounts and have passwords that are not easy to remember (headbutt keyboard in notepad is a good way of making a random password). |

Hi there,
Have two issues after the system started working this morning.
1) All my settings have gone - I even got the intro movie when I first went in. Everything on all 4 accounts is back to "Clean Install" settings - I have my overlay saved though! But all my windows are reset - all key bindings gone.
2) Exiting the game client leaves the Gamma of the screen the client was running on set dark. So if I run the main client on my left monitor, after I exit the left monitor is really dark.
Otherwise it's the new launcher! Cheers

Not sure if this has been posted on the forum yet - If it has I had a hard time finding it because of all the rage going on :)
Like many others I had my settings cleared by the new launcher but, on close inspection things werent as bad as they first appeared. I always backup my settings folder every so often anyhow (because ccp). And when I went to restore the settings after the launcher randomly removed them this morning I discovered something interesting.
Normally my settings are located in the following folder (windows 7 x64 - your mileage may vary)
C:\Users\[My Windows Username]\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
However the new launcher seems to have created a new folder / settings under:
C:\Users\{My Windows Username\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_progra~2_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
Copying all the files from the first folder to the second restored my settings. Good old ccp, I didnt think anyone used the old style 8.3 paths for anything anymore.. Oh well, hope that helps someone! |

I was using the launcher up until now .... well done CCP you just made me want to use the eve exe to launch my game. Maybe you should think a little before changing stuff as the majority of players use more than 1 account and this launcher makes that a lot slower and more difficult. Until I can launch multiple accounts from it through SSO I wont be using this.
And well done on screwing up my settings yet again. Yes I am aware there is a work around but the point is I shouldnt have to use one. Bad design is still bad design. Regards

You know what was great, worked well and wasnt broken in any way. The old log in screen. It had excellent music, nice animated backgrounds and really got you in the mood for the game.
You know whats clunky, boring, unnatractive and dosent do the job well. The new launcher. I dont understand why you felt the need to make the changes to a fully functional and enjoyable part of the game that was harming absolutely no body.

Just a helpful (I hope) reminder for people: You don't have to use the launcher at all (except to update when there's a patch release). Create shortcuts to the ExeFile.exe file which resides in the "bin" folder inside your EVE folder (If you installed to the default, it is one of these: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_default_directories ) and run these instead. This way I was able to preserve my overview settings, chat channels and avoid the clunky logging in of multiple accounts that has been a staple "feature" of this launcher.
As for CCP stating that this is to create an improvement further down the road: Half-completed features do not make for improvement. Unhappy customers do not make for an improvement. Not listening to test server feedback does not make for an improvement. For the love of Cthulhu, stop making what are effectively rookie mistakes.
I love your game, stop punishing me for it. |

CCP Atropos wrote:Regarding the two processes that the EVE Launcher starts: the EVE Launcher has a bootstrapping application that loads a versioned EVE Launcher. When one of these closes, the other one should close too, however we've seen in a few instances one of them waits whilst it writes out pending buffers to disk.
If launcher.exe processes are regularly hanging on shutdown, as above, I would beg for people to file a bug report and attach logs of the problem. They don't close. Neither of them. What's worse, whenever I close the EvE client and start the launcher again it creates two new processes (for a new total of four) and then does noting whatsoever. I can repeat that process again and again, the only solution is to kill the launcher processes by by hand in the Task Manager.
Shortcuts have been made to .../EvE/bin/exe.exe and will stay that way for the foreseeable future. Because there is this other horrible thing about the launcher: it doesn't remember what client goes to what screen. Having two monitors both having a different size, settings of my accounts differ widely on the different screen sizes. That is also a reason why putting settings in 'the cloud' (horrible IT flavour of the month!) will not work for me. At all! Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

They aren't. Make junctions for the alts and create shortcuts directly to ExeFile.exe and don't use the launcher. Works for me.
Granted, it's a PITA that we have to set this up, but it works and as a bonus, you get back the beautiful start screen with the great music and you don't have to see the crappy launcher (except to update the client when they release a new version). |

Sizeof Void wrote:A few comments:
1) Using the new launcher reset my settings. As a programmer, I can't see any practical reason why this has to happen, when it would be simple enough to code a routine to automatically save the player's current settings and then restore them, after any necessary upgrades/changes. As it stands now, this auto-reset behavior just tends to generate unnecessary player rage.
2) The new launcher seems to be a memory pig, esp. given what it does. It chews up about 80Mbytes when it starts up and then continues to slowly chew up additional memory while it is open (possible memory leak?). After about 5-10 minutes of sitting idle, its usage has already gone up to 86Mbytes.
3) Is there really any in-game reason to keep this app running, after it has launched the EVE client? If not, then the default behavior should be to close it automatically, after the client has been successfully launched. Players who want to keep it open, for some reason, should have an option to do so, ofc.
4) Currently, I start up EVE via the launcher, wait for the client to start, minimize the client, close the launcher, and then maximize the client again to play the game. Not exactly the smoothest start-up sequence I've seen for any app.
start launcher>go to settings>startup> close launcher after eve has launched (something in that order) |

Wouldn't it be nice to have all the beautiful photos of your characters across all accounts lined up on your launcher? Once single-signed in you just click on any photo and straight into the action!
Also need a "play intro music" button for those who need it before they can play.
The future is bright, but there may be some stumbles on the way!

Oh my, the threadnaught. I was lucky to not have time to start EVE for most of yesterday, so I missed it all and am horribly relaxed about it.
But, it was the next embarassment related to the launcher. Things are not going great for this particular piece of software.
Cevin North wrote:Dear CCP,
you may claim to have fixed this issue but in fact it is not fixed for all users. Probebly only those running widows can use your client, but those running linux sure a shell can nnot run the game trough the launcher becouse the login part of the launcher simply does not show and stays blank.
It would be nice to know what resources you are using now, that you have not used before (like specialised fonts) so we can install these to get the game working we pay you so dearly for.
Telling linux users to use windows will get lots of laughter, but yeah..... Uhm, Linux is unsupported? I'm sure they'll fix it for you eventually, but if you decide to use an unsupported OS, you decide to have such problems every now and then. . |

Spent a few hours just before the patch updating my market Quickbar, It's very important to me. Is it possible to get it back? If it helps I made a duplicate of the EVE folder just before the patch because I was thinking of joining the test server. Does this mean I may have made a backup of the quickbar?
Also please bring back the "Log Off" button. (And if you want to get on our good side have it just go to the character selection screen rather than re-starting EVE entirely.)
Thanks! |

On a super serious note now is the time to contact your chosen CSM. This is what they were elected for and if you did vote this is one of the reasons your vote was cast. Find the name of the CSM you have the closest connection with, sit down and write them a nice eve mail explaining why you are unhappy with the situation and ask them to use their channels to talk directly to CCP about the issues.
Make use of the fantastic system you have avaialble to you, it will take you 5 minutes to write an eve mail, 100 eve mails in your inbox is definately a motivator to sort something out. no not really. I have a bad enough time clicking on one of the 8 clients I have installed to find one of the 24 alts I have. a big fat list of 24 alts will drive me mental, ill always be logging in the wrong dude.
most current multiboxers use what we had and actually got it down to an art over the last 10 years(8 for me) breaking our game and not taking feedback is just bad OMG when can i get a pic here
