I am thinking on getting into some FW. Have not previous knowledge but from what I read some factions are just full of farmers others do more PvP.
If you could start over again what faction would you join and why. Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

All of them are equally fun. If you have a RP preference, pick that one. If you have a favorite faction's ship to fly, pick that one for cheap navy ships via LP store. Otherwise, pick the faction where you find the best player corp to join that suits your play style. QCATS is recruiting: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=146180 |

Define "best"?
Even if you go for kb efficiency or something like that, I don-¦t think there-¦s one faction that-¦s better than the other. FW goes in cycles and while for example Gallente might be dominating today, we might find ourselves under the caldari boots soon. Take a look at minmatar and amarr for a recent example.
All militias have great pilots and corps. All militias are a better "fw experience" if you join a corp -preferably one that lives in fw lowsec- and basically ignore militia chat, it-¦s horrible. Read Andre-¦s post above, he nails it.

While I had fun during my first month of play in the Caldari Militia back in August 2012, I must say I enjoyed the feeling I got from Gallente militia a lot more, especially once the newbie sense of "ohhh cool look at the fleets in lowsec" wore off. I wear my goggles at night.

I'll give my 100% unbiased opinion as always.
Caldari are the best. We are not the best at pvp but our smack talk puts the rest to shame.
Here is the order: Caldari = best smack talkers in eve. 100% fact. Anyone who disagrees is guilty of bad smack talk themselves. Amarr = not bad at smack talk but it loses effect when every sentence ends in AMEN. Gallente = Not too bad at times. Villore Accords have decent smack talk. Where JUSTK are just bad at it and come across mad. Minmatar = the worst at smack talk. Best they can do is link my ship name in local while cloaked up. Where illiterate eve players go to be with their own kind.
Militia chat = entertainment plus when a few loonies start arguing.

On the topic of communication:
IbanezLaney wrote:Where JUSTK are just bad at it and come across mad.
I'm probably going to get in trouble for mentioning this, but Certain Concerned Persons (CCP) approached JUSTK shortly before the Gallente Militia took full control of the warzone several months ago and broached the idea of us helping address some of the 'false self' issues members of the opposing militia had been showing at the time.
According to D.W. Winnicott (1), an influential pediatrician and psychoanalyst in the field of object relations theory, individuals that project a 'false self' have a deep seeded sense of being empty, dead, or even phoney. While not entirely mirroring Kohut's narcissistic disorder theory, Winnicott's 'false self' is more in line with Masterson's thesis of conflict between a person's two selves: his/her true self and a false self he/she constructs to cope with feelings of inadequacy, suffering, or trauma.
Even though we are engaged in conflict with opposing militia for the Federation, we arenGÇÖt without concern, compassion, and patience. An intervention plan with both a macro and micro element was decided upon to affect the aforementioned GÇÿselfGÇÖ issues.
On the macro front, Federation Militia members would feint weariness and reduce their push for warzone control in order to prevent a worsening of the opposing militiaGÇÖs self issues. Next, it was decided that communications in conflict systems between JUSTK pilots and opposing militia members would be worded and/or styled in a way to bolster confidence, promote courage, and work to peak our foes interest in fighting for something.
At this point, our humanitarian intervention has had mixed results. In battles for system control, we have seen a lessoning of GÇÿfalse selfGÇÖ issues for example in the battle for Enaluri and Innia, where Caldari Militia fought with valor knowing that chances were slim. However, in recent engagements in Agoze and Loes, adversaries who we had initially thought were starting to show signs of a true self soon relapsed into a false self state. Finally, the comments from IbanezLaney show that often the best intentions and actions can be misinterpreted.
As to the OPGÇÖs question on which faction to join, stay true to yourself and donGÇÖt fall prey to the tyranny of denial.

I'll give my opinion from the perspective of a Minmatar solo/small gang pilot.
Every time I see Caldari, it's always in a huge group trying to bait single players into engaging so they can collapse with 10 people. It's also usually terribly obvious. I have not really met any skilled Caldari solo pilots, and every fleet of them I've seen has been stupidly large, to the point of where we never really had any reason/chance to engage. My experience with them is therefore limited, but my contact has not reflected highly on them.
Amarr are a mixed bag. They have hardly any solo pilots, but the solo pilots they do have are *excellent*. They're pretty coordinated with their fleet ops, and they have some decently skilled pilots just because of how long they've been fighting without plex income. But as a result, they're also stupidly risk averse. You pretty much have to set a trap to get a decent fight. As a result you won't get a ton of fights vs them. When I'm out plexing I say probably 60-70% of my fights are vs solo pirates, with Amarr focusing mainly on sieging key systems. Again, this is probably due to a cultural shift as a result of the Minmatar farmer issue. Every time I've gotten into a fleet that got into a pitched battle, we've won. But the Amarr are skilled. It's always been stupidly close. Their ability to select targets is excellent, and they're pretty good at trapping. Again, risk averse. Meh.
The Minmatar militia is, amusingly, a mirror image of their ship design. Scattered and ramshackle, but somehow still strong. Our reputation has been somewhat tarnished by the farmer fleets that used to settle in our militia. But the incredible LP gains we got from those farmers has allowed many of our pilots to throw away ships left and right. This has, ironically, made many of us much better at PvP because we were allowed to replace our losses and therefore take many stupid fights and learn a lot in a shorter time. We're probably the most disorganized militia on the whole, but in small gangs and solo we have some truly excellent pilots and fleets. Whenever I see large fleets form up(which is rare) they're usually heavily disorganized, but they still somehow come out ahead if they get into large fights. But our lack of organization cripples us in regards to warzone control. We seem to have issues in mid sized fleets and in general sieging and strategy.
Gallente militia I have little experience with, as I mostly stay in Minmatar and Amarr lowsec.
This is just my experience. YMMV. I've gained this perspective mostly from soloing and pub fleets, but given the collapse our farmer fleets and the current push by the Amarr, I'd say it's a fairly accurate assessment. This Space Intentionally Left Blank |

This is basically the feeling I got when I was there briefly earlier this year. I joined the NPC corp after a longish absence from EVE and I found it to be... dead. There was very little shooting people, it all seemed to be plex plex plex. And god forbid you enter a plex that already has someone in. I probably should have stuck around longer than I did but I just wasn't having fun. The only PVP I was getting was toying with the insta-poppers in Rens. |

As a total nub at EVE having only played for just under three months I have to admit that I am thoroughly enjoying Gallente FW. I fly solo, small gang, and have even managed to join a couple of 20+ man fleets. I'm earning enough in LP to keep up with my losses as well as build a little isk bank. It is fairly regular for me to lose multiple ships a day, but each and every one teaches me something. Watching internet spaceships go boom is fun! |
