I would just like to extend a big thank you from all of us noobs on 14 day trial accouts to all the people who help us out with advice or ISk.
My personal hero in Hotradnik(sp) is
Naddz
I called in local for some help with a mission, he stayed for a good 2 hours chattin and gave me a bunch of stuff that will help out, and more importantly filled in some gaps that I needed to understand.
THANKS AGAIN.

The best compliment you can pay them, is to do the same when you are an older player :)

When I was new to the game I got help by older players, not isk but the chance to be with them in my imicus on miningoperations where they used to share everything equal between them. Ofcourse I did not make much ore but I definitly got more back from what I did contribute with...
In the end that is what I do now, if a new player aproach me I have no problem helping out with advices and let them join my operations...
And I would be happy if those new players do the same when they can help out. ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

Whenever I run across a new player in eve, and they seem to be struggling I toss em a mil in isk and give em some advice. Mainly because back when I started, someone did the same for me.

Yeah, the best thing you can do is give good advice and practical assistance. I've always thought that just giving someone ISK is the least helpful way of helping someone out on the scale of helpfulness. I've always done stuff like hunting the bigger rats that a new player couldn't kill themselves or (when I used to mine) spend time mining with them and split the minerals 50/50 so they get to see how much things improve when they progress. Above all, people just need to see the various ways of easily making some money for themselves.

The only advise I got in my first 2 weeks was: RUN! When I was in a 0.3 and there where 3 NPC pirates heading towards me :P
I have to say, the eve universe can be a very nice place to be. I have only been playing for about 2 months now, but I definetly try and help out newer players when I can.
I hope everyone does the same. That way we can shoot them later, or go mining with them Blow me up Scotty! |

I've given a lot away to new players/new corp members in the past, but those that open convos with me just to ask for isk now get blocked.

Well i always try to help out newbies when they ask, but people seem to expect having to pay something in return usually, and when i tell them there company and the ability to chat with someone when mining boring veld is reward enough they don't believe me
Best advice i give to newb players, get an indy fast, that way ur always usefull at mining ops as a hauler.
Anyways if u see me in local and need some help gimme a shout, if i'm not too busy and/or bored i'll gladly help u out. signature? What signature? ;) |

Edited by: Severe McCald on 25/10/2005 12:00:35 I set up decent buy orders for ore, based on my refining skills (rather than theirs). It costs me little (as I need the minerals anyway), but can be a big leg up to solo noobs.
I also used to try and give them decent small weapons (scout and proto's) or other named mods, when they had obviously done a fair bit of mining, as a sort of bonus. However, they were difficult to give away, as the noobs were very suspicious of my motives .
Stopped trying to do that because the reaction just ****ed me off.

I have to say, as a new player in EVE myself, how impressed I am with the average maturity of the playerbase. There are griefers of course (there always are), but on average it is an impressivley more mature community than many others in multiplayer games.
Kudos to all! :)

When I started the game, I got killed and podded by TWD.
I'm still so traumatized that I resort to griefing just to get over it. ---

When I was a nuub, I didn't get help like that, I got blown up by a suicide kessie. =/ But at least I learned a hard lesson early on and didn't lose any more than a Punisher or whatever frig I was in at the time.

I'd gladly help newbies do their newbie things. Being a relative newbie myself. (I was there back in the day, but I quit for a year or so)
But I *will* be nasty and mean to anyone horribly illiterate or too lazy to do the tutorial and do some research on their own. If I had the patience to sit through the tutorial and the intelligence to figure out my UI, then others have it too.
I'm not especially patient or smart. However I am mean and nasty 8( I hate n00bs. Newbies get all the help I can offer.

Edited by: Qalten on 25/10/2005 15:43:10 In an environment like EVE, information is always infinitely better than ISK (although having a bit of it to get a slightly better ship never hurts). I was fortunate to run into some very helpful players in my early days (*waves to Legion Elite*) and always do my best to pass that along to any new pilots I come across.

I too try very hard to Teach our Noobs the dangers of low sec space. I also when possible offer them a free Clone jump to their Cloning station.
I take pride in my work and hope to see you in an INFOD-fested system soon.

Griefer and mature aren't always mutually exclusive.
That depends on what he means by a griefer, but I'd argue that they are.
