Aparently, mirroring the entire EVE site was not enough. He knew he could do better.
I wonder if there is a cut in all that for the guy beyond the ad revenue. Nothing like plagiarism and a good old-fashioned kickback combined. |

I'll say. Any mods seen this site yet? It's a bit of a rip-off of the official site, wouldn't you say?

Edited by: Mr Bigglesworth on 28/10/2005 15:58:59 Will us westerners be able to play on that server too? If it means being laggy to hell and talking in chinease with a totally different client, i'd do it - just like to see the eve universe without the alliances and corps
Edit: Come to think of it, wouldnt that give some distinct advantages, i mean with BPOs and 0.0 etc?

If it was google ads links then it really isn't his doing.
No one is holding a gun to his head to let google advertise there... He can take them out of his page at any time. By not doing so, he is promoting isk sellers in exchange for .xx cents per click. He is promoting isk sellers for money, no matter how you slice it. Since google can't put themselves on his site, it _is_ his doing, since he knows that google is promoting them. The only difference being he gets a check from google, instead of directly from the isk sellers.
I think players should be banned for promoting isk sellers, since they are helping the isk sellers sell isk which is a violation of the EULA. He is selling isk, albeit indirectly.
If I own a television company, and give primedia air time during commercial breaks to display their commercials, and playboy buys time from primedia, and primedia shows their commercial, I am allowing playboy to advertise on my channel and show nudity, because I am allowing primedia to. Do you think that the FCC is going to fine primedia, or me?
The owner of the media (in this case, a web site) is liable for anything on that website.

There is so much wrong with this guy, his site, and his screens, but I'll stay on topic and comment on his screenshots; they are CRAP! Crap rez, no AA.... bleh... him trying to pimp those screens is just a front for pimping his rip-off isk selling site....
Blah blah google adds... STILL, he's helping break the EULA, oh and CCP does the same! Look at the official links on the right on main page, click on EVE ZONE! Full of google ads selling isk! If CCP is serious about ppl not buying ingame stuff for RL cash, they should remove that site and others that have google ads selling isk!

Hey, when EVE came out you could take a 800x600 non-AA non-AF screen and blow everyone away with it. It's new to them, so let them enjoy it.
Regarding the selling of isk, well as long as it's in China I don't care what they do because it will never affect our game here... right? Right?
RIGHT?

Edited by: Expert Newbie on 28/10/2005 19:05:23 MMORPG.com has ads that advertise IGE. Also, when I play a certain space-based browser-based game that has Google ads, I frequently get links to sites that sell in-game items and money.

Originally by: Expert Newbie First of all, nothing is wrong with the site. So he follows the same template that EVE's website uses. So does other websites out there. That's like me getting ****ed at someone's Powerpoint presentation because he used the same template as me. It would only be a copyright violation if he was to steal the images and exact layout of the site and duplicated it as his own, and it's happened once before a few years back. By your guy's reasoning, any site with a hotbar on the left and another one on the right with a title bar at the top and a footer bar at the bottom is copying EVE's site design.
Second of all, those screenshots were shot on Tranquility. How do I know? Look at the last screenshot. Notice how all the windows are in ENGLISH except for the chat. Believe it or not, we have Chinese players on Tranquility (visit the Chinese channel in the Languages tab) and I chat with them from time to time. If it was the Chinese server, everything would be in Chinese.
There's a difference between stealing someone's design and using the same template. The difference being that templates are open and public for all to use. Designs are not. The least he could have done would be to give credit where credit is due, but instead he posts copyright notices all over the place.
As for your second paragraph... oh well.

Just checked, the pics for the isk sale are hosted on the main site so google ads are NOT being used and the link is placed there by the author.

Sale of ingame items and characters has been the ruination of every game I've come across. You have no way of knowing if that person you are dealing with who has the impressive character and amazing gear has been playing 2 years or 2 days. And the economy goes downhill fast.
I feel kind of bad for the chinese server for that reason, and I'm glad it doesn't happen in Tranq. (not much anyhow.)

Linking to websites which contain material that is not permitted to be posted is generally not permited. This includes but is not limited to websites with information about or links to websites involved in the sale of in-game items and ISK for out-of-game cash.
