So I'm sure this has been discussed but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Why are there now two Eve worlds?
Was this done due to logistics?
Surely this is not great, I would like to see our world grow in player base and become a bigger better place to live.
One of the things about Eve to me is that everyone in the game inhabit the same world. |

EVE isn't sharded, there is a test server though.
If/when EVE launches in China there will be another server, but that has to do with Chinese laws.

The only "other server" is the China server, which exists because of their laws. It is completely independent, and as nobody here will be able to access it, and nobody there will be able to access ours (except for the few with open internet access), there's no reason to whine about it. - Proud member of the [23].

Second universe is purely for the Chinese Market.
The reasons for two shards is because of the Chinese governments rules on internet game play - that's it purely and simply.

I just read the fan fest dev-blog.
Answered all my questions, and makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Frankly I think selling EVE to China is morally equivalent to breaking Apartheid era sanctions with South Africa or supporting the North Korean Government.
The chinese people should have full access to the internet, profiteering from their governments oppressive regime leaves a foul taste in my mouth. -- We are the Octavian Vanguard www.octavianvanguard.net

Do you even know what you're talking about?
They're not "profiting from an oppressive regime." Is selling coca cola to Chinese morally wrong? If not, why is selling EVE somehow different? Its a product, they can buy it, what about it? - Proud member of the [23].

wel there is a semi capitalists economy developing in china - however the political style is communists with some democratic elements ie hong kong. And even some local councils in china now are semi democratic in nature (experiment in some of the more politically stable regions) and its more to vote for local officals in non essential areas like planning etc.
China however is a big market for eve and CCP are correct in supplying a product and have to abide by local chinesse laws.
I would love to see a democratic china but for the sake of business CCP has to abide by local china laws or be blacklisted from supplying its website.

Edited by: Kalissa on 28/10/2005 11:39:07 I don't really think anyone from TQ would want to access the China server anyway, some of the rules the Chinese government has for online games are stupid. A couple of the best ones are:
1) You can only play for 5 hrs a day 2) You can not profit ingame from killing a player.
I think I'll stick with TQ thankyou very much!

If you have products in your house that one Chinese person worked on then you are a hypocrite.

Those rules had to be imposed, as players over in China can't seem to distinguish between a virtual world, and the one they live in.
They take it too seriously, it may as well not even be called a GAME, if you impose rules such as those...

I highly doubt all the Chinese players can't distinguish between the real world, and a virtual. Some people simply couldn't, and the government decided to impose these ridiculous rules.

Might I ask what their economical system has to do with their decision making capacity ?
Communism is *not* a form of government.

From Websters:
comĀmuĀnism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kmy-nzm) n. 1. A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members.
2. A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.

1. Makes sense.
2. I stress the word: OFTEN. OFTEN people play with themselves inside their bathroom. But calling a bathroom a "Fornication Fantasy Stall" isn't going to change the fact that that is not it's intended design.

And knowing Chinese penalties for breaking the law, I'd hate to see what happens to anyone who tries it if they can.
