Hi all. I have only a medium PC, but has been running EVE since beta well and only until recently i have suffered from less than 10 CTD's from beta to latest patch.
From the last patch though i am getting more frequent CTD's but what is more disturbing is, that i am now getting Windows crashes where the Windows environment dies and shuts down. This results in a complete comp restart.
Anyone else getting this? !!! This only happens to me when i play eve and no other game i own creates this result.
I am running a p3 1800 processor. 256 ddram geforce2 mx Sound Blaster Live!
(before you falme me about comp specs) like i said before, the game ran perfectly up until last patch. Anyone know how i can get around or irradicate this problem as the last time i played i received 2 windows environment crashes within the space of 2 hours.
Like i said never happened before.

A lot of people are having these problems. We're still waiting for an official word on the matter.
Or any word. ________________________________________________

Edited by: vf142rex on 05/08/2003 13:10:23 I have the same issue where when Eve crashes, the entire computer will reboot. Sometimes it crashes softly though. I don't recall having this problem right after the patch. I left for a week on vacation. Now that I am back, the problem has started. Makes me wonder if anything has been changed since the patch. Out of curiosity, what OS? (i am on xp)

Edited by: annoing on 05/08/2003 13:27:06 The really bad CTD began after they worked on the server's last week. They closed the servers for 4 hours (was meant to be 2, changed to 3, came back after 4).
As before, some of the problems lies with player PC configuration (though not for all players have PC's that are more prone to the crash...so dont flame me) and the biggest part is data transfer between server and player. Too much infomation causes an overload (regardless of your connection rate) which cause a CTD and sometimes a reboot. Im sure CCP are investigating this problem, but when it can be sorted is another matter. Finding the cause, then finding a solution that keeps everyone within the parameters of connectivity as promised on the box ("can be played using a 28k modem") will cause even more headaches for the Dev team. Most likely the servers were given new instructions to pump out more to give players from outside EU (servers are in london afterall) better gameplay with less lag ( not just the yanks, but Australasia, Japan etc).
Well i never said i was clever, but i reckon thats pretty near the truth of it..even if i didnt explain it well >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Inquisition Long live the Inquisition Long live the Emperor Long live Amarr!

Its only been happening to me yesterday.
It appears as soon as you do a query from the server it goes **** up
It also happened when I lost track of time and server shutdown mid-warp. Crashed straight away.
Looks like if it does not get an expected response from the server, kerpuut. ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

Edited by: Bogusheadbox on 05/08/2003 16:19:52 Thanks guys for your reply. I am running XP - it is not the CTD's that worry me. It is the entire windows operating system going **** up that is the concern.
Sorry - the link or thread does not seem to be accessible.

There was an entire thread regarding this issue. It let others know that they are not alone, and that it is not just their system that is the problem. However, some smart ass decided to lock and hide it...

I don't know if it helps or not but... last night a corp mate suggested I try playing with the logserver running in the background... I said "Yeah Right, like that will matter..." but after another 3 or 4 ctd's I went ahead and turned it on, thinking it couldn't get any worse. Results? I watched lots of other people drop off in droves while I stayed connected the entire time. As a validation test, I had my son run his game client on his PC without the logserver running in the background and the next time there was a mass crash, he ctd'd and I did not. I did notice a slight lag but remained connected. Perhaps the problem is with a packet timeout and the client doesnt know how to properly deal with a non response? Maybe something in the logserver keeps the session open more consistantly or is more forgiving? i don't know
Either way I am going to try it again tonight after work to see if I get similar results... i would be interested in hearing if this helps anyone else or if I am just imagining things

The reboot problem is ussually caused by the avalance ac97 onboard sound problem, disable your on board sound to see if theres a difference.
Using a geforce MX 2 and 256mb ram is asking for problems, no matter how fast your CPU is, if your GFX card cant handle it, your looking at a slideshow.
CTD is only a common problem amongst those that have get CTD's (heh state the obvious)
I suggest you post these problems in DETAIL, ie all your specs on one thread so someone can analyse your specs and pinpoin the problem.
All these CTD threads never state PC and OS, which is annoying to any bug hunter.
Recently over the last week or so CTD's have become very common for all, , I am sure someone is onto it, it's probably a server issue that needs attention, I remember a few occasions, all my friends and enemies char pics pop up indicating they have CTD'd like a set of domino's.

welcome to the club.. I spend more time CTD than I do actually playing the game this last week or so now. Eve hasn't been stable enough since the last patch to serve as a graphical chat room.
