...surely ship recoloring won't be in it. Ship recoloring would be a huge expansion of NEX, not the back-burner treatment as promised by Hilmar. So the coloring of one's ship will be easy, cheap, and fun, right? Not paid for with aurum, obviously. Because they wouldn't say NEX is getting pushed aside only to turn around and put a huge new customization feature in NEX.
That's like saying "Hey, here's some cake!"
"Wooooooo! Cake!"
"Oh but before you can have it, let me drop my pants and... Grrrrr.... *PLOP* There we go, turd on top!"
So can we get confirmation that ship coloring will not be in NEX before I get too excited? |

Ship skins need to be delivered through faction loyalty point stores in the short term. Its a quick and easy delivery method that plugs into the agent system and doesn't break eve economy.

Would totally support that. And it even gives a potential use for some of the less popular PI products. |

Oh I definitely agree. In an ideal future this is how all content needs to be delivered.
But on the assumption CCP actually had the skins (like the golden scorpion) ready to go through NeX and are tempted (in a moment of lunacy) to put this stuff into the game via NeX.
My thought is just DONT DO IT. If you want quick and easy stick them in the LP stores and let players grind mission points for this stuff.

Actually I wouldn't mind if the NeX store would be the place to buy your one off, destroyable skins for ships. Then they'd be able to use if for something and move all the rest (crafting wise, what is currenlty in the nex and other future content) more into players hands.
Offcourse certain faction colourings should only be available from missions, LP's and special rewards. You don't go out and BUY a blood raider skin, you earn it (just like any other faction/corperation/empire colour) giving you better loyality awards and negative reactions/lower rewards if you wear it in the wrong places.
But if you want that big red and black camo colouring because it is pretty and it suits your eyes I can get putting in the NeX, if they where very cheap I might buy one with the free aurum. I know what I say is blasphemy I guess, but at least on this small point I can be lenient. - [yellow]English only please. Jesus don't encourage them Ciar! NeX devs are like roaches, give them a crumb and they'll soon be a horde of vermin eating away at our content.

Yep, i hated NeX
Yep, i hated the prices
Yep, i hated Hilmar for his posting about the protest
Yep, i am loving it now.
It's a great idea that has a very solid foundation. No need to move as quickly as possible to max it out, give it some time, CCP will add more things to it, Soon(tm) |

The only question is: do they need to bleed any more PLEX out of the system?
If not, then the NeX no longer serves any purpose and should be removed. Everything it does can already be done better through pre-existing (and more fully-featured) means. Talk about a ship that would be called primary...
I agree, and from what I've read in his recent interview, I don't think they'll do anything major with the NeX for a little while. |

I know and I agree completely in principle I do want all this NeX content out of the store and into the sandbox, mission rewards and LP stores are the fastest way to do this at the moment.. I actually debated with myself in posting this knowing that not giving an inch would be preferable to giving them an opening, any opening, but these things are not up to me anyway, I figure others can be hardline on this.
You'd think roleplaying a religious Amarrian reclaimer all these years would have thought me a little something about being rigid and not giving in an inch. I guess I have a long way to go before I reach the heights of our good friend Lord Vaari.
Any decent sanbox implementation of actually creating these items would require another delve into Ambulation development though. I think that scares CCP a little to much now.

Ehh i dunno... people do like a bit of fluff on the side. It may still prove to be a desirable thing |

So make them player manufacturable and expensive in components (most desirable)
or simply cost a lot of LP points (easiest to implement)
If you want the bling it will still cost you lots (maybe buying and coverting a plex or two for it) and you don't need the hateful obscenity of the NeX store in Eve.
Solved.

I personally am all for anything that is a new revenue stream for CCP. The nex store is fine, most games have the same thing, all the garbage on the nex store can be sold on the regular isk market anyways. What I won't support in regards to the nex store is anything that gives players that want to spend $$ advantages like buying uber ships or guns or whatever. Purely cosmetic crap is fine imo. |

You and I have done this dance before. But as already argued .. I think there is no purely cosmetic "crap" in Eve Online and nor should there be. And I don't think anyone sensible should support the development of a "crap" shop that sells rubbish to the credulous. Enhance the goddam economic sandbox already and shoot NeX in the head!

Different skins are shown on the winter expansion page so they have a plan for them. I imagine we'll hear something soon and it's too late to change plans now.
But...
I'm hoping for a market supplied blueprint or schematic to allow players to build "paint kits" that are applied like rigs. That would keep them in the player built economy and keep them cheap enough that they won't cost enough to be gank worthy.
If the simple act of painting your ship makes you a target then what is the point? We are pretty much losing Incarna as an outlet for personal identity so pre-nerfing custom paint jobs will screw that as well. Rees Noturana // Professional Treasure Hunter |

But his commitment to it now seems pretty weak. I think our community did a great job bashing that down. My hope for balanced development has gone far the other way now. We should get some awesome spaceship expansions though.

yep good point. If they are relatively cheap its something people can build and sell and make profits on. Perhaps additional salvage options?

It's just fancy spaceship paint. I imagine it would be a good entry level builder item, probably using mostly planetary commodities. Being paint I don't really see much to salvage.

Could have one material perhaps from the wrecks combined with PI stuff. Dunno really ... I'm a sucker for ninja salvage I love it :)
