You know they are updating the ships models too right? You should come with a pre-emptive strike and suggest we will have an option to use the old ship models too, before they get done with it you know. |

Im not sure, if my message arrived you: Here is it again:
Aw: Your thread in the Features and Ideas forum Von: Gustav Mannfred Gesendet: 2012.04.30 06:45 An: CCP Phantom,
hello CCP Phantom, thank you for you reponse in my thread and removing all these offtopticposts. Here are a few good reasons:
Turrets:
-they looked better on the current shipmodells, like a Succubus with small pulselasers looked great, while the new small pulselasers looks like a torpedobay.
-fired synchron, i put on a maelstrom 8 tachyonbeamlasers, each with another frec. crystal and fired on a small drone, looked great, like a rainbow. But now sometimes start the last weapon firing, when the first stops firing. I know, the first shoot is always synchron. But any shoot after the first one not.
-when you set shader to low, then you only see the turrets, if you zoom your camera very close to ship.
-The new ones needs a bit more resources, ussaly, when you use multiple accounts. Or in Missions, when you draw stageaggro. I can remember, i runed a few weeks ago a mission in a tengu. It was blockade lvl 4. I destroyed the triggers, speedtanked the Npcs and there was the misseffects of the turrets, that was added with crucible. when 20 or 30 Npcs dont hit the tengu, then the Fps amount reduced.
-The old ones illuminated more, like Lasers and T2 blasters and artys. The effects are the same, but i mean the modells.
But what is with the new missilelaunchers? i find, it dont looks great, when you have old turretmodells and new missilelaunchers togeter. Usally on ships, that use missiles and turrets (like Hurricane or Typhoon). If you use the old turretmodells, the missileeffects looks like the current situation on TQ.
Nebulaes:
-they changed over constelation, over regions is boring, over time. After a few weeks, you know, how it looks like in each region.
-they are a bit dark, while i readed in the devblog about it, that hi-sec is not dark, only nullsec and the lowsec-regions (aridia, black rise and molden heath). Essence is basically hi-sec and his nebulae is the darkest hi-sec nebulae. while the providence region is much more bright then hi-sec.
-They have low quality, when you zoom to the nebulaes. The old ones had much more quality, then the new ones. When you dont zoomed to the nebulaes, then you dont see anything, but when you maximal zoomed on, then yes. Somewho posted a few pictures in my thread. How the sinq laison region looks.
and what, when the devs accept this idea;
-Adding an option under general setting to activate the old turret modells and an option to activate old nebulaes. As i sayed in the thread, i dont want to remove the old nebulaes or turretmodells. But what dont should get removed is the algited stargates and the stars of bording systems. the old nebulaes should have a bit less brightness as in apocrypha (brighter then in incarna or anything, that came after aprocrypha) and the actual starfield.
i'm REALY miss the old stuff.-á

Biggest fail attempt ever to get something back that is worse then the current.
The background of EVE changed (nebu's), and its better then the previous ones, you statement that they are worse is only based on background colors that flair up a certain Region. The newer ones have been made with newer software and are way better in terms of pixels and resolution then the previous ones. That they don't change each constellation but on region now is also better more variation in EVE ftw.
The old guns where horrible ...... no really they were, it was time they took them into a revamp same goes for missiles and launchers, and tbh i like the looks of the new stuff a lot.
Altho i envy your attempt to keep this bumped and moved up, after having done it for so long i would just stop i,t as you can see, no one besides yourself seem to want this back in the game. I rather see them work on more nice stuff like they showed on those nice fanfest videos, then waste time on bringing this old outdated graphics back for the 2/3 players that don't seem to support general game improvement.
just my 2 iskies tho.
PS: don't like the new effect, there is always a button to turn it of, i would suggest using it if you think its that bad.
ow and btw

There will always have someone to think that it was better in the old times. For me the new designs are excellent. But why not giving the possibility to have the old designs? Probably because it gives to the devs twice more time to do something.

I've watched EVE's graphics change over 8 years and thus far there isn't anything I would put back to the way it used to be.
And, as Phantom said, it would be a lot of extra work to include and maintain old assets. It would also drive up the hard drive space needed by the client significantly, which would make those of us who aren't interested in the old models and effects have to deal with less hard drive space.
No, the simple reality is, it's not going to happen. EVE is an MMO and it evolves, which means inevitably, some people will always be left unhappy. Adapt, or move on. Discoverer of CCP's original missile damage formula. |

the client just gets 300MB more.

Its simply not cost effective to maintain a second seperate set of assets for a very small fragment of the player base that might want it. Assets which, as time goes on, will be increasingly difficult to maintain as the game's technology and primary assests evolve. Eventually becoming completely incompadible.
I would rather CCP devote its resources to moving the game forward, not backwards. The graphic overhaul over the last year or so was one of the big things that got me to start playing again.

Gustav. May I have a word with you?
- There is no reason to add old turret models back. At the most maybe remodel some new turrets.
- Stop saying "weapontowers".
- My god, just let the thread DIE already. Nobody else wants it, and CCP won't listen to one person. Ever.
- Learn english grammar, and stop using the other kinds of grammar when speaking english.

This is just so full of win.... using an artillery boat with lasers.... you're doing it wrong here especially if your only goal is to make rainbows in space....

I believe this is actually what ccp wanted to achieve, take a look around you and instantly know what region you're in. and obviously you've never been into a region like cloud ring where you can see the ring way before entering the region and when you're inside there's an actual cloud ring engulfing the whole region. visually and functionally it is brilliant

Gustav... [almost] no one agrees with you here. You have no rational argument for wanting content/artwork that will ultimately just create more headaches and work for CCP in the long run. Just let it go and accept it for what it is. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |
