The sensor overlay has nothing to do with skill. That applies to the aftermath when you try to probe down a signature. AFAIK we are not giving any skill relating to the actual probe scanning although the exact effect is changing somewhat. But that is Team Super Friends territory, as they implemented those changes. |

It'd not dumbing down, but it's definitely not a good change. I can't say I've been thrilled with Super Friends' communication in that thread though.
Maybe I've been spoiled by Prototyping Rocks.
Edit - Regardless, this is the wrong thread for that, these devs had nothing to do with it. |

I think this will achieve your goals for the feature quite nicely, but it also highlight one of the problems with the current exploration. That being the feeling there actually isn't anything hidden to find and therefore it's not really exploring. All potential sites are immediately visible to everyone just by entering the system and even the likely locations for sigs are now shown without any effort. Since there isn't even the pretense of anything hidden anymore to find and reveal, we aren't really explorers we are treasure hunters, that delve to sites everyone already knows about and sees.
The above isn't precisely an issue with just the new system, but it really brings it to the forefront. Exploration usually means going of the beaten path and seeing if you can find something of interest not immediately visible to the people just passing through. You've now officially made the equivelant of glowing arrows pointing every player to the "hidden" items you've sprinkeled throughout your game, when before people actually had to prepare and spend some effort to achieve the same. If there is one major downside you've introduced with these changes, this would be it and I hope future iterations to the system try to bring actual exploration back to the game. |

I've tried this on SiSi and I have to say I like it. It does what it is supposed to do and does it good. But when doing things that have noting to do with what's in system (like travelling), it gets annoying. It isn't that it takes more time after a jump (it doesn't) but is is unnecessary extra sensory input that under such circumstances is irrelevant.
So wile I like it and definitely are going to use it, I would like to have the option to shut it of completely when I don't need it at all. When doing a long haul in a perfectly fitted Freighter for instance...

Wrong, that just means that if you manually deactivate your probes, they don't auto-recall, so you can still leave behind probes in tactical positions for later.
The teleporting on recall and auto-recall on dock, system change or log-off remains.
Edit - Actually hang on, maybe I'm reading it wrong. They still auto-recalled on the test server as of yesterday, hrm. |

Not liking the radial button on the HUD to open up the scanner window. What used to be one click, is now two. Alt + D to the rescue.
Also not liking the in-space icons for the signatures, it's out of tune with the rest of the brackets; But i probably should've posted this in the F&I feedback threads.

Only issue is that it's automatic upon undocking.
I feel that will get old quick. A simple toggle (similar to the current safety) will save a lot of complaining and preserve the shiny-new-feeling of the sensor overlay effect. |

With a slight pull to the left with the mouse during the click you can still have it once click.
And talking about shortcuts you can use CTRL+O by default to enable/disable the sensor overlay as well.

I couldn't find the info, but does it mean that whatever is displayed after the initial scan - these are the only sites available in the system, just a matter of pinpointing it; or there are other sites that you still have to find using probes? |

The scanning window becomes too big. When probing part of it was based on spreadsheet, you could just squeeze some columns and make the scanning window smaller keeping its minimum size. Now, when you removed "spreadsheetness" from scannig tab we can't comfortably change the width of the comumns and squeeze the scanning window.
The size of the scanning window is especially critical in WH space because there you have to keep it open all the time 23.5*7*365 for d-scanning. And making windows bigger is bad by itself. OpenSUSE 12.2, wine 1.5 |

All scannable signature sites appear in the overlay right now. Whether this holds over all possible futures I can not say. |

Is the new immediate scanner range limited?
I.e. currently in the largest systems a set of probes wont cover the whole area, will this scan sweep cover the entire area of even the largest systems?

There is no range limitation within the solar system. You get all the pokemons.

exploration is gone from eve i hope not forever It's definitely a change, but how damaging it is is a matter of opinion. It's not like the old system was like a proud and free Icelandic mini-horse roaming happily across grassy fields, when Team Five 0 suddenly appeared to trap and enslave it. It's more like we had a crippled mini-horse, that showed some signs of life, but it was clear it's running days were over. What Team Five 0 did was come to the crippled little horse and put a bullet in it's brain. Now we're in the silent moment after where what just happened is starting to sink in and each of us has to decide whether what we saw was an act of mercy or an act of evil. Meanwhile members of Team Five 0 have to decide do they want to spend resources to bring healthy mini-horses to us and how they can keep on living with their hands drenched in cute and innocent mini-horse blood. |
