So I just installed Evemon. How does this work? How do I know the proper way to plan? Is that why there are certificates in the game? Do I use those as sort of a guideline for goals? Like what do certificates do I guess is my question. |

Since you are just starting you might want to figure out the order of importance for ships you want to fly and select these from the ship browser in the plan window, each has required skills and recommended certificates window to the right which will give you a good start on a plan. |

Enochx Kaine wrote:So I just installed Evemon. How does this work? Step 1: Make a full access API key and use it for EFT. Don't give it to anyone, nor use it on any website; make other keys for that, which you can choose to revoke later.
https://community.eveonline.com/support/api-key/CreatePredefined?accessMask=268435455
Set a name like "Full Access" and check "No Expiry".
Click "Submit" and you are done.
Step 2: Add the API key to EVEmon
File -> Add API Key -> Enter the ID and verification code (copy and paste).
Make sure there are no trailing spaces.
I think you can work out the rest. |

Yup, use the web API interface to make an API key with everything checked, then put it in EVEMON and it will be able to load your character. From then on you can just add skills to the plan in EVEMON and it will tell you how long and what the best attribute remap is good for you.
You should also get EFT, as recommended above, and use the same API key with it. EFT lets you play with fitting ships so that you can then go in-game and know what ship to buy and what gear; it would be quite expensive to buy a bunch of gear in-game to figure out that it doesn't work.
Neither of these programs affect anything in-game; they are off-line simulations only.
Certificates can also be used as a guideline. Each ship in game has a Recommended Skills tab, where it lists the certificates you should have to fly it properly. Battleships will have higher recommendations than Frigates, and the certificates also point out the weaponry skills and support skills that you need to actually outfit the ship. |

You will eventually want to get your core skills to 5 & support skills to 4 (5 when it is a prereq for something else you want). A lot of players will tell you to smash through your core skills right away. Although this is sound advice it is boring and will burn you out b4 you even get to the fun stuff. I would suggest training all the things to 3. This is considered the minimum level to really do anything & only takes a few hours for any given skill. That way you can dabble until you know what you like. If something seems interesting then train a level or three of it, try it out. If you don't like it you've only lost like 3 hours of training. When you have decided on something to focus on, dedicate to it & max those skills out. Have fun, its a game after all. Welcome to EVE
Specifically...what are the core skills that I want to be at 4 or 5 as soon as possible? |

The Certs are a useful guide for training. They also provide a shorthand way of describing your skills to other players, although frankly it isn't used a lot. For example, I've given my corpmates a list of Certs they have to have before they are allowed to come into our Corps wormhole.
I suggest you look at the Core certificates and get each of them to at least basic. Some skills like Engineering, Electronics, Navigation, and Ship Command are very useful to train up to a high level right away. They are prerequisites for more advanced skills and will help with your ship fitting down the road.
EVEmon is a great tool. Become familiar with it. Get an API and plug it into EVEmon and then do some careful planning. "Patience: n, a minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue." - AMBROSE PIERCE |
