The standard settings aren't very good with my new logitech z-5500 5.1 surround system. Not all sounds are played so I wonder if there is a 5.1 setting hidden somewhere? Like the multisample setting that you get in options only if you add a line in prefs.ini
thanks in advance everybody! |

I would agree... eve in my z-5000's is not that impressive. I dont know if ccp has ever improved the game engines code, or updated to the latest versions of the FMOD sound system (they may still be using the older version that was around when they first wrote eve). The graphics are nice in eve, but the sound has always been a little dull, even my new X-Fi Elite Pro drops sounds in eve and panning is rather hard on the ears. I vote for CCP to improve the sound to at least match the graphics so that both our eyes and ears can have love. Also adding a page in the ESC menu devoted to various sound settings like EAX, or EAX HD, would be a nice addition too, not everyone that plays eve wants to turn off sound, neither too do they just have the integrated sound chips on the motherboard.

In my experience with the Soundblaster Live 5:1 surround sound system I have, you need to set the Creative Mixer software to 4 speakers, instead of 5:1 - that way you get all the engine noises and weapons fire. If you leave 5:1 on, you get the warp drive noise and some speach + internal station noise.
Can't explain how or why, thats how it works for me, and i have the last drivers made for my model of card. Suppose i have to upgrade sometime, but my system is stable and works, so i tend not to fiddle with it too much. Incidently, i have a Gigabyte board and Athlon XP config, nothing flash.

Hmm... SB Audigy Platinum with Logitech Z-680's (5.1) sounds dern good for me... full surround sound too. Sounds really cool at an acceleration gate when you spin your ship... acceleration gate spins all around you.
Go into your sound card setup and tell it that you have 5.1 surround speakers hooked up, but only if your sound card supports 5.1 out (3 mini jack outputs... one for front L/R, one for rear L/R, and one for center/sub). If you only have front and rear outputs, your sound card does not support 5.1. Solution? Upgrade.

sound in eve is totally broken... when you get like 70 ships shooting at something (yes i admit i tried turning sound on in the middle of a fleet battle). You'll hear 1 effect play half way then get cut out by another effect really fast.

I have the z-5500's and a sound blaser audigy 2 x-gamer. I think it sounds great with them. If someone starts shooting me from behind I can hear it behind me (just like your supsoed to in surround sound). So I dunno, maybe its the audio card?

I solved this problem by turning sound off and turning iTunes on.
