Why are you and Ranger and a few others just the same group of posters that for some reason take offense that people want an on/off button for this new dren that was forced upon everyone? You can leave your button on. It won't affect you one bit. Why does it upset you so much that you post (yet from an npc forum alt )?
But anyway, I do thank you cadre of quixotically butthurt new animation defenders for bumping this thread continually. It saves those of us that don't want the nauseating jump and intrusive autoscan animations from having to post "bump." It also keeps this thread on page one where it belongs until CCP gets their collective ass in gear to fix some problems they didn't have to create. |

This is a question which I have seen continually directed to those opposed to having this option, and as far as I have seen, not one of them has bothered to even acknowledge it, let alone give it a reasonable answer. They all just ignore it every time it is asked, and the reason for that should be obvious: having the option would not affect them in the slightest, and there is no legitimate reason for them to oppose it.
In fact, the only answer I have seen to this question was given by a CCP Dev, and that answer was that doing so would be a "cop-out," which is frankly the most pathetic excuse they could have given. They didn't claim that it would be technically difficult to do, or that it would be a resource problem; they just practically flat out stated that they were too egotistical to admit when they made a mistake, and instead they have to try to cover it up. |

I don't think any of us object to the idea of an on/off switch.
What we object to is:
You asked for an off switch.
You were told "No, we are going to improve the effect as we have time to minimize any adverse affects some people are experiencing".
You won't accept that answer, and get indignant when people point this out that this was a reasonable response.
If you're going to put this out there for discussion, you really shouldn't be surprised that not everyone agrees with your point of view... especially when some of the posters insist on injection a high degree of melodrama into the thread.
You are fully entitled to ask for more to be done, just as we are entitled to say we believe that CCP's stance is reasonable. If you are unwilling to see that opinion then it should not be posted in a discussion thread, and petitioned to CCP directly instead. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Well, I'm no dev in disguise... the only reason why I don't think "you" need an on/off switch is simple:
Every thime something - anything new is introduced into this game, a bunch of people have to immediately storm the forums and demand it changed... every time... problem is, though: The only thing "you" people really achieve with that kind of behaviour is that nobody at CCP gives a damn about anything written on the forums anymore!
You don't help anyone with that, least yourself.
Bottom line: You don't like a new feature? Post your concearns in the Features and Ideas thread, in a cohesive and rational fashion, and maybe sombody will listen... or not.
EDIT: That's the second time I posted this here... and the last time... if you wanna continue to waste your time, suit yourself. "ginger forum goddess, space gypsy and stone nibbler extraordinaire!" Shalua Rui - CEO and founder of Rui Freelance Mining (RFLM)

If CCP's response had been along the lines of "ok, we understand what the problem is, and why this is causing people physical discomfort, and we will improve the animation effects ASAP to reduce or remove these problem," then I think a lot of people here would have had a lot more patience with letting CCP at least try their solution before resorting to a fourm threadnought to voice their displeasure with CCP's decision on this matter.
The problem is that their response essentially amounted to "well, we don't really know why you don't like it (even though you've given plenty of feedback which we initially ignored, and even our own employees have problems with it), or understand what's causing the problem, but we're just going to try making the animation a little better and hope that does the trick. Oh, we can't give you a timeline on it either, but we'll get to it... eventually. Just trust us to get this done right with the first pass, whenever that is. In the meantime, you paying customers will just have to deal with the pain and discomfort, sorry."
It should be obvious why this sort of response does little to inspire faith in CCP's ability or dedication to fix this issue "their way." Three months without an effective solution in sight only further erodes that confidence, and reinforces the need for a different solution.
At the same time, you also have those players who have experienced no physical problems with this animation, but for one reason or another find it detracts from their gameplay. Many have stated that they just find the sequence to be annoying, boring, repetitive, or tedious, especially when going through many jumps in a row. How is "improving" the animation going to change anything for them? As paying customers, do they not also have the right to voice their opinion? Even though CCP has stated their decision on this matter, do they not have the right to continue to state their objections to that decision?
There have been many changes in this game that have occured due to customer feedback. There have also been changes made which were then reversed due to such feedback, even after CCP has stated a definite decision to the contrary. Are you seriously suggesting that we should stop all player feedback that disagrees with CCP's position? Are you implying that players who are both emotionally and finanncially invested into this game should stop supporting or protesting these changes, when they believe that doing so is in the best interest of the game, merely because one Dev said that they weren't going to give in? Becasue that's what it sounds like you want.
Or would it be more correct to say that you want it just for the issues you disagree with? |

They should also be prepared to deal with the fact that some people will disagree with them (which should prompt a frank discussion of the two points of view), and others will simply troll them (which should justifiably be ignored by both sides).
Ultimately people expressing opposing opinions only helps your case in a way, it keeps the thread going a bit longer. All right then, consider the following regarding CCP's response:
- CCP initially ignored both external and internal feedback regarding this animation
- CCP has given no indication that they understand how they can effectively improve the animation to alleviate adverse physical effects; nor have they explained what improvements they intend to make or how they believe those improvements will help
- CCP has offered no timeline by which players can expect these improvements to be implemented
- CCP has not issued a temporary rollback, or provided any other form of relief for those suffering pain and discomfort due to this animation
- Since CCP stated their intentions to "improve" the animation, they have been completely silent on this issue, offering no updates, no response to feedback, and no indication that they still intend to do anything about this
- It has been over three months since this problem went live, and apparently CCP just expects those suffering from it are expected to "deal with it" indefinitely, and trust that CCP can and will fix it "their way"
In light of these details, what about CCP's response is reasonable? Maybe at first it might have seemed like a possible solution to some, but at what point do we agree that CCP doesn't know what they are doing and are incapable of improving the animation in a way that fixes these problems? At what point does it become clear that they have just wasted everyone's time waiting for a fix that may or may not have worked, when they could have put their efforts towards a 100% effective solution? |

It is pathetic how almost each and everyone in the community feels obliged to reply with a smartass, sarcastic, or a cryptic proverb just to elicit some sort of intelligence, mystery, and/or uber humor in their character, whether these statements add value to the topic or not. And I mean every single topic; whether on the forums or in-game help channels.
Most of such people convey the exact opposite message about their character than intended. They sound ridiculous and too fond of themselves.
It is nothing but a sign of lack of self confidence. Said people perceive some sort of a deficiency in themselves when they always feel obliged to talk smart whether it is relevant or not.
As an outside observer coming from the real world who has not yet become addicted to her alter ego in Eve, i say this has become a disgusting social disease in this multiplayer online game.

This thread has has gone way off topic, and become personal for some.
the jump animation just looks and sounds bad.... so what? let us turn it off if we want. if that's too much work technically then that's OK we'll deal with it.
Allowing the player-base to customize the game experience is a good thing. Try another game and you will see that allowing players to customize the game to suit themselves (as long as it's not cheating) is awesome, and that's why it's prominent throughout the entire gaming industry and has been for a long time.
I assumed I would be able to turn it off based on experience with computer gaming in general, that's how i ended up at this thread. Unfortunately the thread has been hijacked by trolls and now it's a mess.
This started as a simple request for an in-game customization feature. That's it. Perhaps there is a more appropriate place to discuss medical issues and/or delusions regarding the development studio.
Do you work for ccp? thought not. They are adults and don't need anyone to speak for them on the forums. If you're an admin.... PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD. |

It is not "customization" when it affects player health and forces them to avoid IRL a unavoidable game feature. I don't have any problem nor my gameplay suffers if i am forced to look away from the screen when jumping, but to some players who are not as carebear as me, that's not an option. I don't understand what your getting at there. having the ability to turn it off (customization) is a good thing. u enjoy the game enough that u play even though u often look away in disgust apparently. So it would be nice to have the option to turn it off and that's not an unreasonable suggestion. |

No, you don't "disagree with them" - you just make "HTFU" posts here. A lot of them.
A valid "disagree" post sounds like this:
"No! I don't want the "off" checkbox, because it will give you/Goons/someone else an unfair advantage, because... It will impact MY game, because..."
Now, your posts go more like this:
"CCP told you no. Deal with that. Whiners. You don't like new stuff. We like the new stuff. HTFU. Whiners. Hurr durr".
Explain how the option will impact YOUR game. And don't use "we" - you do not represent anyone but yourself. |
