Greetings,
I find it incredibly hard to believe that this discussion has never been brought up before, but I have decided to bring it up again if that be the case.
As a manufacturer of equipment in Eve Online, I can say that the addition of this feature would add a lot more value and sense of accomplishment to the role I play and love in the finest virtual world I have had the pleasure to be apart of.
Like the combat pilot who has a kill mail, combat log and furthermore out of game killboards to log their accomplishments in and out of the game, I feel as I am certain many others who dedicate their time in eve to the manufacturing of equipment for distribution through the eve economy that it would create a incredible sense of accomplishment and value if the items we have created have some kind of indication as to who the manufacturer was.
In the real world, nearly ever product in existence is branded, which serves as advertisement and recognition for ones work. In eve unfortunately there is no indication of the origin of any equipment traded on the open market. Thus no recognition and furthermore no way for the manufacturer to gauge market penetration.
I know that it would be quite the experience to loot a piece of equipment from a wreck after a pvp fight that had "Created by: J'ee" under its attributes.
Why this has not yet been implemented or explored I do not know. It may be the case of complexity adding something the the game that from a programmers point of view may be a lot more difficult than it may appear from a players point of view. That being said, I do strongly believe that the addition of this feature in some form or another would be applauded across nearly the entire R&D community.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider my suggestion, and I hope that this is something we may hope to see in the future.

If this were to become the case, would you reimburse us for ships that malfunction and mysteriously blow up?
I don't see why this can't happen, I do not know if it is really high value work but if it makes the manufactures happy to see their brand on ships then I guess that's cool. I wouldn't want to see it evolve past ship hulls though. |

This is not WoW. If WoW is anything like other MMO from EQ, EQ2, Vanguard, Tabula Rasa that I have played or any other MMO out there where "Epic Sword with +2 magic" doesn't stack in the inventory unless its "Wolf Pelt" which is just vendor fodder or a requirment for an item that crafted doesn't stack. Last I checked, ships, ammo, modules, minerals....all stack like identical products. In EVE, you become a real anal retentive pack rack to keep everything organized unless its been unpackaged and equiped because of the massive number of items you can accumulate quickly, so I don't need a 11 ""Nike" brand Rifters not stacking with 7 "Adidas" Rifters and 9 "Sketchers" Rifters because you can only have 999 items in the hangar window but millions of items stacked in the same line. |

It would be nice, however this would ruin the 'stacking' ability of items. Stacking items (repackaging them) removes all specific recorded data about that item, and just simply turns it into a number (+1 per unit) This is why you need to repair equipment first before repackaging... because you need to return it to its default state before destroying the individual, unique item, and turning it into a digit.
If manufacturers got to stamp their ships (or omg items...), i'd have a stack for each manufacturer, in addition to a stack for each ship/item type, hugely cluttering my already full hanger floor (~500 items)
How would you propose to overcome the destruction of data when items are stacked? The stacking ability is a key way to minimize database size... instead of having an entry for each instance of the item, they only currently need one entry to record the number of units
All that aside, i think branding ships would be really awesome, and would love to see it done. |

to be entirely honest,
I would be happy with just a "created by:" note either under and independent tab on the information of an item, under attributes, or even in description.
anything really as long as you can 'sign' your work so to speak. |

I'm not fundamentally opposed to the concept, however its not really practical in eve for the reasons stated above. How would you have such information come out of a stack? I suppose you could keep track of makers and quantities then randomly select one when you assemble them.
The thing we absolutely cannot have though is reduced functionality when dealing with stacks (such as stacks being limited to one manufacturer). Such limitations would be a horrible inconvenience to almost everyone. |

Speaking for most industrialists **** YOU. While yeah acknowledgement would be nice, all this will do is tell jackasses which characters to camp and which corps to wardec for maximum dickery. Being a nullsec industrialist I don't want ANYONE knowing which chars build stuff, where they are, or any of that other crap. Everyone in EVE is an ******* out to kill you. Doing this will just paint a nice fat juicy target on every industrialist out there. Even worse if you build caps. Then they know to blow up all of your corps towers to ruin you.
If this happens every nullsec industrialist is ******, royally. |
