Just read that Iain passed away from cancer today, the world has lost a juggernaught of a writer.
Think it's time to dig out my Culture novels for a re-read. |

I'm angry. He was the only writer I cared enough about to actually wait longingly for his new novels. What a ******* ****. |

sad day indeed. I saw the article in one of the UK newspapers a few months back that said he had incurable cancer.

Crap. He was a friend-of-a-friend; I have several of his books autographed. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Cancer is pernicious and evil. That is one of the reasons I wake up each day with a sense of purpose - We try to but that bastard back in its box. Some days, we even succeed a bit. Other days, we don't succeed, but we learn what *won't* work. And every now and again, we find a silver bullet. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I only really started reading his work seriously last year and really enjoyed all the books I read.
This is a terrible loss to not just his family and friends but also the world of literature as a whole, not just science-fiction. "That which is done cannot be undone. But it can be avenged." |
