since odyssey, i encounter a strange issue with eve.
each time i launch it, there is no sound.
i need to clear cache any single time to have it working.
this does not happen with SISI.
i tried reinstalling eve, with no success, i also reinstalled the SISI one, but it still works OK.
seriously, is there a single thing that wasn't broken within odyssey? |

Got the same issue. The sound actually works every now and then but very often the client starts and has no sound at all, the game doesn't appear in windows sound mixer along with other apps. This did happen before Odyssey but nowhere near as often. |

but just unchecking /rechecking the "sound" in esc menu somehow restarted the audio engine or something, and fixed the issue.
now, you have to clear cache / restart client several time and hope for the sound to work :'( |

I'm having the same issue. One win7 computer, one win8 computer, both with completely different configurations and software.
I've noticed that when it happens, EVE is no longer an entry in the windows volume mixer. I'm starting to think it has something to do with mumble, but of course, it has only happened since odyssey. Clearing all settings didn't fix it.
The win7 machine has an asus xonar DG and I've updated all drivers. I have mumble overlay on The win8 machine is using onboard and there are no more recent drivers. Mumble overlay off. |

1- knowing the way audio layers works in windows, it doesn't make sense
2- even if i restart comp and launch only eve, issue happen too
3- issue sometime doesn't happen even if i have many other "audio" applications running (we browser plugin / TS3 / video / audio etc....)
i think (would need to confirm) that eve client just doesn't ask windows audio layer for a session opening, since in the event manager, no crash can be seen, and no session is opened at all when issue arise (hence why there is no eve related entry within audio mixer) |

I've had it cut out on me mid-session as well. One time I noticed the cut is when I was using "look at" on a ship, and it docked. I heard an audio blip right as the camera switched back to me, and no more sound until the next cache reset. |

I too have this issue, very annoying. It appears to be completely random, I have 3 clients and they can have sound straight away, need a few starts or need so many I give up.
Having one working doesn't mean the next one will. I have this problem both using the launcher (seriously guys, that launcher!!) and going directly to ExeFile.
Once it's working it seems fine, getting it working is another matter. Cache clears SOMETIMES work, but not always. Restarts SOMETIMES work.
Within Windows (7 64 bit) mixer the options either start up as EVE - "character name" or sometimes just ExeFile, again no real consistency.
It's driving me crackers and has ONLY been doing this since Odyssey. |

I am having the same issue, and using three clients with individual settings so I can't use that POS launcher.
1. Start up game, no audio (not in mixer either)
2. Close game
3. Start up game, audio sometimes. If not repeat step 2 lol.
This gets VERY annoying when you have to do this on three clients to get started.

Having same issue here and its getting very annoying.
Every 3rd time I start a client up I lose sound on just that client until I clear cache on that client, I can restart that specific client a dozen times and sound won't come back until I clear cache. I can start another subsequent client up (without resolving the problem client) and it will have sound fine until the 3rd time again at which point whatever client I then start is affected.
Definitely wasn't happening before odessey. Doesn't seem to matter which client it is I can open and close clients in random orders but every 3rd one it happens on.
I run my setup with one central eve install and then each seperate client has its own junction linked virtual folder with a unique name that points back to the main install - haven't tried entirely seperate installs to see if that changes anything.
(Also on a Windows 7 PC).
EDIT: As above I'm skipping the launcher as since odessey that breaks the settings on individual clients (or did last time I tried it). |

Happens for me too. I can be running 2-3 clients at once, and only 1 or 2 of them will have sound. Which one(s) have audio, if any, is random.
This is 2-3 clients on the same system using a single install directory.
Odds of having sound if I start from the launcher is higher than if i start from the .exe, but it's not guaranteed either way. |

Just noticed/confirmed that sound will drop out mid-mission. It seemed like there was a chance of this occurring on every new sound queued to the hardware. In the particular mission I was just on, my sound cut out and back in 30-40 times in about 5 minutes.
Very frustrating, maybe they're overflowing something in the sound driver?
At the end of the mission I was without sound until the audio for the jumpgate to take me home played, then it was back. This time.
Audio: C-Media USB Headphones (Steelseries 5H) Driver: Built-in Win8 driver: 6.2.9200.16384 OS: Win8 Pro
This behavior is definitely new with Odyssey, didn't have a single problem prior to Odyssey, nor do I have issues with other games. |

I found something that works for me so I figured I would post it to see if anyone else has the same luck.
For sound not initializing at all at start:
1. Open the volume mixer before opening game
2. Launch from the eve (not the launcher)
3. Before the eve window shows up, click on the sound mixer and move it around
I am not sure why or how....but this has initialized the sound 100% of the time for all three of my clients |

I have returning soundissues as well, but a different one. When i do "look at" on other ships and that ship vanishes (docking, jumping), the sound engine crashes with a loud THUD. Turning it off/on doesnt works, i need to restart eve. Even the mixer does not show eve anymore. And i think, havnt checked for 2 weeks, that the alert sounds (low hps/cap) are WAY to quiet. Having that now which I didn't before - i.e. say I click look at on a station and rotate the camera at certain angles the sound will cut out entirely and along a narrow band either side of the angle that it cuts out sounds play but distorted, as I rotate/move the camera further away from the problem zone theres that "THUD" and sound starts working again. |

I have to start up each client and clear cache restarting pretty much every time now to make sure I have sound and then pray I don't do anything ingame that causes a loss of sound (generally around stations and structures) as once the sound goes while playing that seems to trigger all sorts of unpredictable issues with the client (basically like some kind of whacky desync). Its getting to the point I don't want to play as sooner or later I'm going to lose a ship purely because of it. |

This issue has been pretty bad since Odyssey for me as well, but I've been having this problem off and on for a couple years now.
Prior to Odyssey it was something like a 1:10 chance for the EVE client to start without audio, and having the audio disabled or starting multiple clients up at once seemed to slightly increase the chance of an EVE client starting up without the audio engine. Since Odyssey, however, it's more like a 3:1 chance of starting the client without the audio engine which is a pretty major uptick. Likewise this problem has persisted through me "replacing" my onboard Realtek audio chipset with a Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic I recently acquired.
Hopefully whoever, if anyone, that's looking into this issue will find just what in Odyssey made the situation worse for those like me who've been seeing this for some time and actually fix it, but I'm sure most of us will also take a reversion to the pre-Odyssey lower failure rate. |

before Odyssey, the only audio issues i happened to have, was sound stopped working, and just unticking / reticking audio in property solved the issue (and it was very rare, like once over 2 month, maybe less), now, i sometime even play without sound, cause having to launch 10 time the game is not worth it, especially since more often, sooner or later, audio will go down again, and a clear cache is the only way to have a chance to solve it...)
as i said before, this is nothing to do with your audio device, since the game uses windows audio layer.
what i saw, is that at startup, most of the time, the game doesn't even ask windows for an audio session to be opened.
i do work in audio devices dev, meaning i have personnaly a lot of audio devices available to me (like 50+) and it does not matter wich one is used, the drivers or anything, whether it's my main comp (with all the audio devices) or laptop (with only the intgrated audio), the issue is still happening.
really, what will be the next issue? unable to undock? mouse not working? ccp => Can't Code Properly |

For those who have the issue with the sound system not starting and not showing up in the volume mixer at all, clearing the game cache does fix it for the next restart every time, but it breaks again eventually. Sometimes 10 launches later, sometimes two.

This actually works, but how ridiculous is it that I have to play around with the sound mixer every time I launch a client.
It'd be nice to see a Dev acknowledge the fact that this is happening, and that it is a result of the odyssey expansion and that they are actually looking into it.
Problem is still here, ignoring it does not seem to make it go away. |

i also tested with the 3 modes (on the 2 comps), fullscreen, windowed and fixed window, and it has no impact on this issue, still no sound at first start / restart.
also, by default i use fixed windows on the desktop, and fullscreen on the laptop, since desktop uses 2 screens with different resolution, and i have the same behaviour of the sound on both.
will give a try to the repair tool and keep post updated on result here is what the repair tool gave me, seems damaged files are launcher one, but i don't use the launcher so i don't expect any miracle

Yeah forgot to update it to say that fixed window didn't seem to change anything in the long run on retesting it.
The problem atleast for me appears to be related to library.zip once the tool had identified and repaired that file so far I've not had the sound fail, all my clients started first time today with sound which has never happened since the launch of Odyssey. |

from what i found, it is the only file name this way so pretty sure we are talking about the same file. |

so definitely a CCP issue
This.
Still happening. No amount of repair or different starting techniques matters. I get sound about half the time. Extremely frustrating to have to shutdown and re start multiple times just to get my character online with sound. |

Hey, looky looky...
Installed on a new PC and guess what ?
No sound !
Wiggling this mixer around is like a whole new meta game for EVE.

Hrm. Something must have been fixed for me, because i'm about 30-for-30 starting up with sound, whether using the launcher or the executable. Sorry to those still with no sound, it's incredibly frustrating (I know) |
