So I brought this up in GD, but how would a capsuleer go about serving a life sentence. I know good ole Gerne may not be one, but it made me wonder... |

again, while the capsuleers have different laws applied than the normal people. they arent invulnerable to law, maybe their cloning system doesnt allow them to die permanently, but they sure can suffer the same treatment as any convict. how?
1. having devices that disable their infomorphic capabilities, so they cannot transfer from one clone to another
2. since they cannot jump between clones, they are mortal again, so they can die
3. unlike normal people, they would be allowed to jump to a new clone, but they would be disabled again, so the life sentence would go completelly, the capsuleer would have to live each clone life cycle before fullfilling its sentence in prison. |

Capsuleers have a specific device that allows mind transfer. Disable that device or make sure there is no body where to transfer into and the capsuleer will die. Capsuleers are nearly unique (in addition to Dusties) in that they can clone in the fly, i.e. when the capsule breaks, the device will fire and force a mind transfer. Out of capsule, mind transfer for capsuleers works only in an operating theatre or a high end biotech lab, just like any rich enough citizen of New Eden.
Some are theorizing about backup copies of the memories allowing resurrection with memory loss, but the status of that is a bit shaky. CONCORD does not like the remote possibility that someone might have extra copies of herself running around. |

I thought I had read somewhere that the process of imaging a capsuleer's brain also destroys it. And just to be safe, there was a neurotoxin injected as well. |

In the capsule this is true. Whether there is a non-destructive, out-of-capsule cloning method is unclear at this time, although CCP has in the past suggested that it does exist.
That said:
Option 1: Assume capsuleer has no waiting "soft scanned" (i.e., non-destructively scanned) clones prepared, shoot 'em while they aren't in a pod. Upsides: Easiest. Downsides: They may still get away if they have any sense of preparation.
Option 2: Do not intend to kill them, but instead force them to clone into a damaged clone and live out the rest of their existence in some damaged state - induced mindlock, for instance. Obviously make sure the clone they are being forced into cannot be used to make another (undamaged) clone.
Option 3: Don't kill them. Lifetime imprisonment. |

Yes we can die. If all our clones are destroyed then we have nothing to clone into when our current body dies. Just look at Empyrean age. Mal: "If anyone gets nosy, just...you know... shoot 'em. "
Zoe: "Shoot 'em?"
Mal: "Politely." |
