Edited by: DJMike on 09/08/2003 00:20:54 I myself am not sure if I have gottin scammed but is looking more that way. I have givin my 58 million in minerals and 10 mill in isk to moniquethegreat 4 days ago and still no bs made yet. It was for a megathron and the reason im telling this is because she says she cant make in to inaro to trade my bs because she is getting pod kill. She says that she has been pod killed 3 times already and is wanting compensation for the 3 thoraxes and mega beams she has lost. All you pirates out there that can confirm this is true please post that you have killed her. The days are going by and still no bs. She still convs me saying that it is still to dangerous to move and has the bs in her hanger in inaro. I would like to see if she is moving or just siting there in a station. Im very mad that a person can do this, but this is part of the game, but no buddy gets aways with that much isk and is still asking for compensation. I would like to hear you thoughts on this because im very mad about what has happen to me. -------------------------------------------------- Covenant US-Time Zone Director

you got scammed man she applied to the corp I am in and we found out that she had scammed 3 ppl at least so we kicked her and she is now on our KOS list and her "friend" or alt, his name is joedirt, and ppl if you see them please pod them because this is just wrong to scam ppl out of their isk like that, and dont come with that bull that this is a game and everything goes, for 1 person to save for 60+ mill in a cruiser takes ALOT OF FRIGGIN HARD WORK AND TIME, DOING ACTS LIKE SCAMMING IS STEALING TIME IN REAL LIFE FROM PPL AND IS UNEXCEPTABLE, I would not vote that scammers would be banned but given a HUGE fine, like was did to those who scammed in missions, its easy, its logged, and it can be done. LOL... really.. LOL..... and again... LOL!!
I'm sorry, but where do all these gullible gollyshucks people come from, I just don't understand...
Right. Safe trading rules for free (no scam :)
1. Never front minerals/isk for anything. 2. Never front minerals/isk for anything. 3. Only conduct 'closed' trades, ie. you buy something, you pay and get what you pay for in ONE atomic trade using the trade window (amazing feature, that trade window). 4. In case you missed it: Never front minerals/isk for anything.
Then maybe we can finally have forums without people crying about being scammed out of their minerals/isk.
People claiming to own a BS print should be wealthy enough to have at least one unit in stock to give a customer the item he is buying immediately, in exchange for the minerals+the isk.
P.S.: Never front minerals/isk for anything :) Oh, and a security level of 0.0 and/or not in a corp should make some alarm bells go off, right?

So why hasn't she blocked my yet from chatting with her, I will never know. She still clams to have the bs ready for me? -------------------------------------------------- Covenant US-Time Zone Director

Why would you front minerals to anyone for manufacturing? I don't care what their ingame rep supposedly is. That is not a proper way to conduct business.
It must be nice to live in a world of rainbows and smiley faced people.
Reality has caught up with you it seems.

Oh, and just an analogy of this in more earthly terms, so people can actually see how dumb giving stuff up front really is:
The scene: A busy place in a large city.
Person walks around in the city. Person is interested in buying a car. In order to acquire said vehicle, the person decides to express his desire to obtain it...
Person shouts: "WTB A CAR! WTB A CAR!!!" (often person repeats this multiple times and very frequently, but that's a different story)
A stranger approaches and says: "Hi, you're interested in a car? Well, this is your lucky day, sir. I can build cars. Unfortunately we have to buy the parts to assemble a car, as we don't have any in stock. This will cost you $50000 up front, and we will then deliver your car when it is assembled. I'm sorry I can not show you the factory or any credentials, but I promise! I'm not a scammer! Honest!"
Person thinks a few minutes, then pulls out the cheque-book writes out a cheque for $50000 and says "Thanks complete and total stranger, here's the money. I have complete and total trust in you and your promise that you will deliver the car as agreed. After all, why would someone approach me and offer to build a car when he doesn't have the means to do that, haha, that would be silly!"
Stranger says: "Damn right you are, sir, that would indeed be silly.", and walks off, blending into the crowd, never to be seen again.
[several days later]
"OMG OMG OMG WTF!!!!", the person exclaims, "I think I got scammed!"
The End.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist

Even with a character from release here clone will only cost 260k. Now if she gets a friend (assuming she has one) and gets them to pod kill her and split the money 2 ways thats another 1.9 million you have given her. Might seem insignificant to the amount you lost but imho bounties dont help all that much.

Ignore the insults; everyone makes mistakes. There is nothing wrong with asking if it were a possible legitimate reason for not following through, plus it does help to inform others who might make the same mistake.
I would suggest you not spend any additional funds adding to the bounty on the character. Keep the money to yourself, as it will do more good in your hands. Upping the bounty on the character will accomplish little given the current safety measures in place, plus the ease which someone can just create another character and keep going.

I'll look out for her, should I run across said person I'll kill her for free, and you can even have the corpse.
Can't promise I do run across her tough.

Edited by: Klydor on 09/08/2003 18:32:08 Don't bother with using the offical bounty board, it's too easy to scam. Instead make a post on these forums and in the bounty channel.
Offer 4 million for anyone who brings you her corpse.
Only accept delivery from players who are in corps you have heard or, and have been playing for some time. So you can avoid the alt problem.
Not an ideal solution I know, but better than nothing.

Sorry to hear you were scammed. It's sad that griefers simply do things "because they can". Of course, those malcontents could never successfully be a career criminal in RL, just in a virtual world where justice does not exist.
And that really is the crux of the problem. There is no secure escrow/contract system. In RL, if you contract with someone, there is real recourse in the event they break the contract. That is the part most of these losers that are just saying "sorry sucker" to you are missing.

You should have bought your Apocalypses from me.
NEVER give your minerals to a shipbuilder unless they have some in stock and can give you one in the same PvP window.
I have all kinds of mineral deals available if you choose to save for another one. Roark - Taggart Transdimensional - www.taggarttd.com |

The sad part in all of these "scams" are that there is no "policing force" that handles the problems that occur, more sad is that GMs/Dev/CCP doesnt care about it either, they just say "EUAL syas this and that, its your own fault that you trust people" they arent putting in any way of "protection" against this ingame, we have Concord etc but they only attack pirates, regular "criminals" can continue this until their character or alt is burned up, then they just make a new one and continue thier scamming. in "real life" police ACTUALLY stop (well most of them) such activities etc. One easy way to fix this is to make an ingame "contract" that if not fullfilled the buy is revoked and all materials etc returned to the owner....
