...speak, from an In Character viewpoint, with a French accent but not in a way that comes across as degrading, demeaning and insulting to the French?
It's just one of the races are descended from the French and I want to expand on that a little but don't wish to insult anyone.

Ahh, ma cherie, the french aren't neccesarily all that bad, n'est-ce pas?
Use a lot of french in, how do you call it, your speech? It gives everything that certain, je ne sais quoi, non?

Uuuhh you just talk like normal you know?
or you could always say someting like *in french accent* or "I apologize for my french accent"
or you could always write it in french you know?
It would be up to the readers imagination to make it french. Because a french accent is more on tone and pace of speak rathar then how the word is sounds imo. _______________________________________________

Ah, should have mentioned I'm already doing that.
My knowledge of French is a little bare, but I can add enough to come across as "authentic"...it's just the accent itself I'm having a little trouble with.
After all, replacing w's with v's and s' with z's can only get one so far.

Have you ever seen a french person type the as 'zhe'? I haven't ;)
It's not neccesary to use phonetics in your speech. If you insist, you can, though. i'd recommend never using the letter 'h' but replace it with a '. The french don't pronounce that letter

hmmm, you're Amarrian, but it goes like this (phonetically)...
"Ov Coarse I am Gallentian. Why Elz wood I have zis outrageous ax-cent."
now, taking the phonetics out.... "Oui, je suis Gallentian."
or
"Yes, I am a Gallentian. Want to buy some uppers?"
--------- My apologies to the real French. My (Parisienne) French has slid down the tube over the past several decades. However, I think my French-Canadian may be just about right.

Speak in english. But every now and then `lapse` into a few simple french words - especially in stressful situations, suggesting that maybe fench is your first language but you speak english as its the `standard` language in Eve (sorry to non anglish speakers out there).
I dont know if youve read the Nights Dawn Trilogy by Peter F Hamilton (best sci fi trilogy ever imho) but there a great french ethnic character in that called Andre DuChamp who speaks in this manner and would make an excellent reference.

Thanks for the tips and advice, guys (Especially the book references), it's helped me refine myself a little and gives me considerable focus when speaking "as" the character.
While I won't be speaking full "English" (ie Every single piece of grammar perfect..etc), I'll be dropping the "z for s" act.
Thanks again, means a lot.
Now resume discussing whatever you want.
