Have any of you guys experience the same thing? I use a windows 8 OS on a tower. Before Odyssey, everything were fine. However, after the Odyssey update is patched, I couldn't launch the launcher. I would open the launcher, and see it run for few seconds in the task manager, and it would disappear. I tried to repair EVE, re-install EVE, update directx, but none of that worked. What happened to my EVE and how do I fix it?

See, this is why I didn't even upgrade to windows 7 for like 5 years.

Pfff you're stating nothing, sorry to tell you this but while you might as well have got some Launcher issues at whatever version I've experienced ANY from the first version and I'm using W8 64 Pro on a dekstop self made PC...
Op:
You might as well have experienced and old, very old, issue that people tend to forget as far as internet connections get more stable and powerful: corrupted file What does this mean? -well it's a very tedious process to completely get rid of said file since you don't know exactly which one it is, unless CCP, they know and they know how to deal wizit !!
First of all open you Eve folder and try to launch Eve Safe Mode, if it works you can already fix your training issue then go ASAP to you repair tool, run it. It can't harm your eve files but fix them, might as well take some time or not but run it.
At the end of your repair tool process you'll either get a log telling you everything is fine either it will tell you you have a persistent issue and you should DL the entire game again. If everything is fine and your launcher is still messing with you make sure you're not using steam or that steam is even working in the background.

Try starting without the launcher.
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin
and run the ExeFile.exe file. |

Very much also this.
I run Win8 also, and for some reason that OS just seems to utterly hate sub-popup windows. It won't let the mouse cursor touch them, so anything I can't just press enter or esc for is null and void.
So, I feel for you. I would happily strangle the imbecile in charge of Win8 design. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

Unforunately horrible UI design is taking over the industry. Even Ubuntu has went full silly and now has a UI that tries to copy Apple but fails at it and proceeds to make DOS terminals more functional and faster. |

I see all these complaints about windows 8.
I use it, day in day out, and never have any trouble with it. Do people really find it that hard to make the tiny adjustment it needs? Steve Ronuken for CSM 9!-á I'm starting early :) Handy tools and an SDE conversion Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |

You will always have people unable to adapt or who are used to be handed for the slightest problem. W8 is OK and far better than 7, if some comfort themselves telling they have done the best choice with W7 let them be. Wouldn't change my W8 for 7 for any reason. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |

It's like two OSes in one? I guess. Or something.....should have bought a Mac. An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded. A narrow mind is a focused mind.

Long wait for you.
Helps that I wasn't subscribed to this.
Anyway:
Windows 8 is an incremental improvement over Windows 7. Nothing particularly significant. Is it worth upgrading to 8, if you already have 7, well, not really. Is it worth avoiding? Nope, it runs fine, and only people with a mediocre intellect have any problems adapting to it. Oh woe, the start menu doesn't exist. I'm sure people spent a long time staring at it.
There are a few nice changes which are visible, and a few nice under the hood ones.
Multi monitor support is better, with the extra monitors being more useful. File History's a data protection feature, much like previous versions, but allowing for a backup to a network drive Recovery from a failure state is faster, with the ability to reset windows without needing to reinstall it completely ASLR has been significantly improved over that of 7, with it being on by default, rather than having to be flagged on.
Nothing revolutionary, but it all just works. Steve Ronuken for CSM 9!-á I'm starting early :) Handy tools and an SDE conversion Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |
