I feel like I'm doing it wrong. I pull about 1500 or so WP on average in a match and I'm a pretty decent FPS player, but I think it's pretty repetitive and not much fun. There's no point, atm. I'm wondering a few things and maybe some of you could help me out here:
- What gametypes are you playing? I've been gravitating towards skirmish and merc contracts (also skirmish)
- What corp are you in? Are they having fun?
- What's your weapon of choice? I have a solid mass driver... it's OK. Maybe I need a forge gun?
- Did you bother to train vehicle skills and if so, does that mean your just rolling in mercenary gear?
Thanks for any responses...

I really enjoy DUST, mostly playing LogiSniper with the occasional LogiAR in Domination. For some odd reason I feel I play better drunk haha maybe bc I don't try as hard
I play just like I do in EVE - Solo - so not PC going on or anything like that for me, it's just casual play. Trained basic dropship skills just so I can try and fly around a bit (and get high sniper spots) but usually ends with me being oneshotted down haha. Thos dropships are hard as hell to fly properly and gets taken out so easy (prolly due to lack of skill and mods on it).

If yes, I've only seen you chilling afk in the MCC (only seen you twice so far though). stahp taht plz >.<
As for me, I was really frustrated with the game until two weeks ago. Then I took a chill pill and started playing my Logi less as an Assault class and more like a supporter. My aiming is really weak, so I appriciate things like the repair tool which snaps onto targets. I usually run around deploying Drop Uplinks at funny spots. I also like chasing after vehicles. It's a very satisfying experience to blow up LAV's, HAV's and Dropships, preferably with passengers in it. As for vehicle I use, I stick to Militia right now, because I want to train up my Dropsuit Core Skills first. First vehicle I want to train after that is an Assault Dropship which brings me to my Droplink positions faster than the sluggish Militia one.
I prefer Skirmish and Domination to an extend. I am in a corp but they are... annoying. Complaining and yelling a lot, at least in the squads I end up in, that's why I run around solo at the moment. So I guess they are not having a lot if fun right now. We've done PC battles for a week and lost a good chunk of money for nothing. There is currently a bug which renders the whole thing unplayable, very frustrating, so we've given up our districts and wait for a patch.
Hope that answers your questions Gogela. |

As someone who has never played DUST. Does the integration into EVE make any sense whatsoever or is it just a gimmick ? I'm offering Graphics Services in EVE like Sig Banners / KB Banners / Animated Videos / Websites and the likes for 150m / hour. Contact ingame for more info. |

Sounds like you guys pretty much do what I do... I trained drop uplinks to 5 and I litter the battlefield with 10-12 drop uplinks... then I run around and try to kill people with my mass driver and the +25 Team Spawn just keeps going I wish I could transfer my stuff to Gogela though... keep thinking the DUST devs are going to take it all away again. I dunno... I finish on top usually but who cares? What's in it for Gogela? Random salvage? Meh. Maybe I should go back to halo for a few months and come back with fresh eyes. My client crashes every other day... still get stuck in nooks and crannys (but I leaned the suicide granade trick at least!), and driving? Gah. Those LAVs are no Warthogs, that's for sure. Yah Chribba, those dropships are just flying targets. The tactic I see people using is when the swarms are inbound you pull wayyyyyy past your teams read line and out of their range. Some guys have uber dropships though, and unless you can get another guy or two to shoot at it with you they'll just dominate the sky.
Obmud wrote:As someone who has never played DUST. Does the integration into EVE make any sense whatsoever or is it just a gimmick ? I don't know if it's a gimmick. I can tell you there is no meaningful integration whatsoever from what I've seen. It's a promise for the future or a scam, depending on your optimism/cynicism. tl;dr; What integration?

Many people mistakenly like to claim that this is a Shakespearean word invented by the man himself.
In ancient Rome the 'free' population was divided into two classes: patricians (ruling class) and plebeians ('plebs', non-ruling class who were not otherwise slaves).
These days the word pleb is used to refer to people who are considered uncultured.

I do. I don't care about PC or WP and just train what sounds interesting. I mean who cares, it's a free game, right? I only play on the weekends when I've got some free time so it's not a massive deal if I win or lose. And the forums are so easy to troll I pity them, I'm talking fishing in a barrel with a grenade easy |

Obmud wrote:As someone who has never played DUST. Does the integration into EVE make any sense whatsoever or is it just a gimmick ? Short answer: No Long answer: Right now there is barely any incentive to fight for capsuleers. Take Factional Warfare for example: you as Dust player don't get anything out of it, EVE pilots are not even able to reward you for fighting for their side. In planetary Conquest it's not so bad, but the fact that PC is limited to just Molden Heath means that nobody really uses the bonuses you get when you hold districts on a planet. The prerequisites for calling in an orbital from an player in orbit are also too strict. All this has nothing of the open sandboxy ways we are used to.
Thus: public matches (highsec npc contracts). Same reward as FW battles.

I started off playing DUST and them moved up to EVE. Thus far I admire the story as an overall whole and can understand where the DUST and EVE universe syncs up very nicely. Presently I have a number of different fits. Logistics Amarr for support and Minmatar Assault for those times I'd just rather focus on myself; which is kind of what ambush boils down to. I'll also point out that I have two different PSN accounts and so: two different DUST accounts. One of them I'm planning to focus mainly on vehicles and the other is pretty much only ground infantry.
Advice to make things a little easier if you're just getting into things:
-Play around with different weapon styles. Most of them only require you to invest about 12,500 SP or so which isn't bad. There are some (example: The Plasma Launcher) that require a large point investment. You may want to YouTube those before making a heavy investment.
-Each of the dropsuits have their own perks and require a different play style. An Amarr Assault suit carries the highest defenses of any in the game (with max points in Armor and Shield you're looking at 250 Shield and Armor without modules), but they're slower than most other suits in stride and sprint. Minmater Assaults on the other hand carry a high speed, but weaker armor and to compensate they have a nice shield regen and the only natural armor repair (to my knowledge). No two suit types are the same and sometimes it's a good idea to have multiple types. This can be expensive at first (as you should focus on one type along with other modules) so use your better judgement.
-Join a pretty good corp or at the very least get into a good running group. There are some players that don't mind taking players outside their corp into battle so you don't have to join one immediately if you'd rather shop around. I can tell you from personal experience that even the losses were more bearable when I was running with an organized group.
-Get a mic. This is a lead off from the last tab, but it's important if you want to work with a solid group.
-When in doubt put the controller down and walk away. I find myself taking days away from the game sometimes. You don't always have good days and I guess that goes for everything, but because of the somewhat repetitive nature of DUST, it can burn you really fast. Remember that SP generates over time so sometimes it's best to take a vacation.
-Check out the DUST forums. There are plenty of much much better players offering advice and hard numbers about suits, weapons, and pretty much anything you might have questions about.
If you like the game, don't give up though. Just like EVE it takes time to generate anything. It can be frustrating when you run into Proto-suit wearing premades, but that's just part of life in this universe I suppose. That and um... Orbital Strikes... those are fun to watch, but they really suck to be on the receiving end of. I hope some of this helps. |

Since I have played actual good first person shooters like Counter-Strike, Quake and Unreal Tournament, I can never bring myself to play a console shooter. You can claim that there's the option to use a keyboard and mouse all you want, but the fact is that the performance of the game affects input so much that it's unplayable even then.
Dust514 is a cool idea that was poorly executed, but I do hope we get a PC version in the future, that doesn't have all the performance and input issues that the PS3 version has. |

Yeah whenever I try to play an FPS on any console I end up sucking and usually bringing my team down. But I like to think I'm pretty good on PC, thats pretty much the only reason I don't play DUST. Nope. Although I did login once. Lost interest before I ever fired a shot. Assuming you do fire something. I love my PS3's, but there far to many interesting offline games to waist time on a Halo rip off. Oh yeah I hate Halo too.

Yeah I play.
Any game mode really I enjoy all of them, personally I typically use the shotgun + light suit combo. Have a dropship alt but waiting for amarr/minmatar stuff to be released first.
To be honest if you don't like the game forcing yourself to try and like it will only make you hate it more. Only advice I can really give is to set your main with passive sp and take a break, pop back later after we've had some expansions. wumbo |

I play DUST but it's very repetitive. But it can only get better so I will stick with it. I play Heavy with Heavy Machine Gun. My corp is inactive in DUST right now since PC is pointless. I do not train vehicle skills yet till my infantry is speced. |

Imagine bigger shots, twice as many of them, them landing rapidly, over a much wider area. That's the hybrid strike. Laser strikes have a tight radius (though they do destroy everything in it pretty much without fail) and EMP is basically useless. So, hybrid strikes. Good fun. Sig'd.-áGallente FW best FW. |
