The shuttle ground to a halt with a solid clunk. The docking servo motors whirred, firmly anchoring the ship to the quietly orbiting cruiser. Gresil wiped his face as if to clear the sleep from his tired face. He had successfully slipped through secure space undetected. He braced himself for the dire news he was about to relay to his peers. Gresil made his way to the makeshift meeting room setup in the cruiserÆs galley. Seated around the table where, Faisal Khan, Crepiscule and Hampstah. Marked conspicuously absent by the vacant chair and lack of boisterous laugh was Ajunta Lee. Gresil bowed to greet those seated, and pulled up his chair. ôAny word on the where abouts of Ajunta?ö he asked. ôWe have sent a frigate to the Geminate region to investigate AJÆs disappearance.ö Crepiscule relayed. ôWe know this is where his last transmission originated from.ö All in the room knew pilots had lost communications with the other Chieftains before, but never for this length of time. Faisal Khan look at Gresil and spoke in a solemn voice, ôAJ was well equipped, we have no indication of Amarr hostiles in the Geminate region, besides AJ has been on missions of greater risk and has always returned unscathed. Speaking of missions how was your trip? And any news on Korgoth Lars?ö
Ah typical Khan, Gresil thought to himself, always getting right down to business. How would he gently break the news that the rumors where true? Korgoth Lars was dead; how else had the research he had been working on fallen into the hands of the Amarr Slavers? ôHonorable Khan I have dark news. The research of Dr. Lars has fallen into our enemies hands. It appears the Amarr have reverse engineered and successfully created Mira.ö Khan slammed his fist on the table and spilled his cup of Kadok wine; the dark stain spread into the table cloth like the grasp of the Amarr Empire the Minmatar race were trying to hold at bay. Khan paused to contemplate the weight of GresilÆs news. Khan knew project Mira was Dr LarÆs secretive mining research project. If had not been for his capture 2 months ago, The Red Corsairs and their allies would have gained the lead in all mining operations. LarÆs research had proven that mining efficiencies could be improved by up to 20%. This ôMining IIö technology as the Minmatar miners had affectionately called it, would have greatly improved the production schedules for the much needed battleships.
Gresil continued, ôIt appears that the Amarr are trying to pin this on the Jovians. Admiral Ouria has been exiled and has a 100,000,000 isk bounty on his head.ö
ôAdmiral Ouria! Exiled?ö Hampstah spat, knowing Ouria had always pushed for slaving reforms throughout Empire Space.
ôIt appears after LarÆs capture, he was transported to a secretive location in Jovian space by his Amarr captors. After weeks of torture, they successfully beat from him the details of the Mira project. A successful level II prototype miner was built and then reverse engineered to create two blueprints.ö The exact whereabouts of the blueprints are unknown at this time, however we know the Miner IIÆs are on the market.ö Gresil proved his point by pulling out a grainy photograph.
Faisal Khan, finished with his analysis of the news, spoke. ôGentleman, this is yet another setback which we shall overcome. Our alliances in this region continue to grow strong. Even if we have lost the mining and production advantage, my guess is the Miner II technology will be quickly distributed by the Amarr. We have spotted their miners working here unguarded as they continue to under estimate the Red CorsairÆs and our Minmatar brethrenÆs resolve. We will pluck these technological wonders from the hands of the foolish Amarr miners. Yes, good sirs, our new base is well established here and undetected. All our pilots have been outfitted with the latest cruisers. We will continue to quietly mine here and if Amarr mining operations are spotted we will strike, and strike with increased vengeance.ö
The men seated around the table nodded in agreement. They knew their fight was far from over, far from easy, but also far from lost.
