I'm very new to the game (2 days so far), and am looking to make a fighter-based character. Because I'm still deciding if the game is for me, I am NOT upgrading my Learning skills at the moment.
I was wondering what to fit on my Kestrel. So far, I only have 4x Standard Missle Launcher. That is it. No shields or boosters or any of that.
So, what should I get? If this helps any, here are my current skills (and please recommend what skills I should buy and level up):
Electronics Level 2 Engineering Level 2 Shield Operation Level 1 Gunnery Level 3 Small Hybrid Turret Level 2 Missle Launcher Operation Level 2 Standard Missles Level 1 Navigation Level 0 Caldari Frigate Level 4 Spaceship Command Level 2 Science Level 1 Leadership Level 2 Mining Rank 1
Thanks.

Edited by: Gralatus on 22/11/2005 23:10:53 First I'll say welcome to Eve!
About fitting..
Kestral is all missiles, so you've got the highs covered.
You get dmg bonus's to kinetic missiles so use Bloodclaw missiles.
With your skills you'll be limited in what you can fit. The good news is that you really don't need much more to be successful early on in your eve career. You'll kill everything in lvl 1 missions and in 0.7+ sec roid belts very fast.
I'd recommend: highs 4 x std launchers
Mids: Civilian Shield Booster/Small Shield Booster Civilian Afterburner/1mn Afterburner Basic Cap Recharger
Lows: Whatever you need to fit the other stuff. Power DIagnostic System, Reactor Control Systems for Grid. Co-processors for CPU. Nanofibers for extra speed and agility, cargo expanders for hauling stuff, etc.
Make sure that before you buy stuff, to chk the skill requirements first to make sure you can use it. You'll need the afterburner skill to use ABs, Hull upgrades for nanos and expanders, etc.
goodluck,
gral

I am new to this but just a comment about yuor skill sets -start training learning skills to boost your attributes or you will be hurting in 2 months training high lever skills:
Learning, Analytical Min - Int instant recall Mem Spatial Awareness - Perception Iron Will - Will
I am even doing empathy for Charisma since I am doing social, negotiation and I think its called contacts to increase mission status pay.
Their are some great missile skills as well that yo ushould get - Rapid Fire (I think) bombardment (Their are others as well - to increase damage)
All of these will help you down the line.

you could go crazy mad and go for:
4xRocket AB - Shield booster - Amp 2xBCU or 2xCPR for sustained fight

Edited by: Argors on 23/11/2005 14:34:33 I'am new to and fly Kestrel all the time, with your skills i would go with three standard launchers i don't think you will be able to fit four. the Rocket setup is fun but it can be very hard to get in range, and at close range you do not want to take on to many NPC's at once. try the three launchers and stay in higher lvl space for now, fit what you can in all the rest of the slots like posted bebove. if you only fit three to should be able to fit a small shield booster, and you will realy need the after burner. the learning skills are a must, for when you start training at higher levels, i would work my skills to fly, fit, and fight to lvl 3, than train all learning skills to level 4, the game will be more fun for you, during all the dead learning skill time. Have fun and fit what you can don't be worryed about leaving slots empty right now, and fitting four SD launchers will not leave you room for anything esle.It is very hard to fit four SD. hope that helps. just my two cents.
Born Free will fight and Die Free.....and Die and Die and Die...

Welcome!
I'm relatively new too and I've found this sticky thread on ship setups very useful.

Other piece of advice... find a good corporation that uses teamspeak like ours.
