Hi everyone.
I'm not exactly new to Eve (been paying for over a year now) but I've not played half as much as I could have done and I still have much to learn!
I was just looking up Smart Bombs on the site and saw that the one I was reading up on has a range of 4km.
I've never used SmartBombs so I'm not sure how they work...
1. Are they launched towards a target ship or just dropped? 2. Is a single SmartBomb fitted to a slot, as opposed to a launcher?
Thanks!

1) It's an omnidirectional pulse. In this case it will hit absolutely every single thing within 4000 m of your ship.
2) It's just a high slot, not a launcher/turret slot.
Be aware that they hit absolutely everything. Meaning if you set it off in a belt and happen to catch someone's giant secure container in high-sec, concord will be all over you.
I'd strongly recommend against using smart bombs anywhere you might take a sec hit.

Nice one. Thanks for the info :)
At the moment I'm running missions in a system where I never see another ship or container etc. The whole area seems to be quite deserted most of the time, so I thought I might have some fun playing with bombs :) |

There is no "single smartbomb", and they are not "dropped", its more like an energy-pulse device that has unlimited uses, but spends significant ammount of cap when activated.

Think of it as the EMP device on the ships in The Matrix, each bomb capable of dealing 1 of 4 damage types. Too bad the graphical effects for these awesome weapons are pretty much the ugliest ones you'll find in the game.

Word of advice: be VERY careful with them in 0.5 systems and up.
If you hit even something like another player's can, CONCORD will squish you.

oh having an apoc with 8 large smarties (2 of each dmg type) and triggering them with about 2 secs in between each they give a nice colorfull display explosions

Ah I see! Well that makes more sense. It did seem a little strange to fit something that only has a single use and then goes!
Thanks for the explanation guys. |
