So there I was, minding my own business dropping random bookmarks in lo-sec space when I come across an Acceleration Gate.
Does this mean that I may have stumbled onto someone's mission start-point? |

Dropping random bookmarks ? If you were making safespots the odds of you stopping at a gate is zillions to one.
But yeah, you can scan out mission runners. FIRE FRIENDSHIP TORPEDOES ! |

Depending on where you are it could be a mission, a faction warfare complex, or even some types of deadspace complexes. |

Good chance. Did it have a name or a pop up message?
If there was a beacon showing in the overview it could have been a DED Deadspace Complex.

When I first started doing exploration, I found a gate that really didn't give much info.
I accessed the gate and my ship got destroyed rather quickly after entering.
The site was a hidden Cosmos Complex and my ship wasn't large enough to handle it..
After that I figured out a way to see what ship class gates would allow.
I would get next to the gate and then exit my ship. Then would activate the gate while in pod. That would cause a message to pop up listing what ships can use it. Then I'd jump back into my ship.

Hitting an acceleration while randomly dropping bookmarks might be the most epic thing that has ever happened in Eve |

The most statistically improbable thing I've ever done in eve is jump through a gate and land inside another ship on the far side, but thats still good odds compared to randomly dropping a bookmark ontop of a deadspace complex gate. If you dropped it ontop of someones mission gate, then you just wasted a whole lotta luck you should have spent on a lottery ticket |
