Hi
I had a encounter today that has pushed me to the brink of fully quitting eve forever! So let me begin I made a school boy error and signed up to a corp that not only got 50million oak out of me but also my ships. My toon only had 3.7million sp and I am thinking of just completely starting again with a new character etc and try to go a pvp/pve route. Would anyone else do what u am thinking or is it just a waste of my time? |

Well, if you're planning to fully quit forever, Can i .. your stu... Erm. Right! It's gone
More seriously where did you invest those 3.7 million SP? Which skills?
Eve tends to reward perseverance, staying the course & being disciplined about your choices. Many might suggest that keeping the 3.7m SP you have now as the thing to do. At some point you may want them vs. starting new & fresh.
In the interest of playing devils' advocate I'd argue that starting fresh gives you the opportunity to make a new character, perhaps without the errors and unwanted skills you accidentally chose to train while very new. In fact, in the grande scheme of all things Eve, 3.7m isn't a huge quantity of SP or time invested. Restarting from 3.7m is painless compared with say 37.
In brief - there are good reasons to make a new character or keep your current one. If i didn't like my characters skills, name, and perhaps history in eve, - some of the people you've met or who know you? I'd seriously consider making a new character & keeping the current character as an alt. |

Restarting is, generally, pointless. Just change your skill plan on your current character.
The only difference is, your clone will cost /slightly/ more. Steve Ronuken for CSM 9!-á I'm starting early :) Handy tools and an SDE conversion Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |

A good corp that's supportive of new players learning the ins & outs of Eve should be able to help you with those issues. |

Consider it a lesson learned, it's better to get stung for 50 million and some cheap ships early on than it is to get stung for 500 million and all your expensive ships later on. Ship wise you have an inexhaustible supply of newbie frigs which can be used for doing low-end PvE to kick-start your wallet again, while generally shite they're A: free, and B: pretty effective in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.

Go do some of the Tutorial missions. It'll get you restarted. You won't be able to use the same agents as before, but there are plenty of others. Steve Ronuken for CSM 9!-á I'm starting early :) Handy tools and an SDE conversion Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |

Yeah. In my case, I did a lot of research and found that corporations like that one exist. You have to do your homework and figure out which corporations are trustworthy and which ones will rob you blind.
Uh.... Like the n00b that I am, I didn't think to bookmark that link with the good advice about how to sniff out the bad corps. However, here's a link with a wealth of real good info for beginners.

You fell for one of the oldest scams in EVE and plenty of warning posts about that online about "Do not give ISK to join a corp". Thus I dont feel sorry for you in that way.

you can always go for mining, very low sp threshold and very steady income.
I'm making 1~2 mil an hour just by afk mining highsec carebearing (though not recommended) in a quiet region of the galaxy.

You made a mistake. Happens to all of us and has a tendency to happen to new players more often.
Keep the character, starting a new one doesn't give you any benefit. In a year or so you will look at your grandious virtual self and laugh about the few ships you lost to that scam. Skill points are never really wasted, no matter what you learned so far.
Also, once you have some substantial amount of ISK, know that there are excellent mercenary services out there. (But make sure you read up on their credibility, or the next scam is around the corner...) Only problem with that is the method used is has the player apply hand over Isk and ships then rejects them and the player never joins the corp. its a method null sec alliances have been using for years. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. |

NEVER...really, I was being nice...in a funny way and giving him a non-traditional way of making his isk back. I would have payed a king's sum for that pic. Singing on comms to save your ship isn't completely out of the ordinary to encounter in game, too. Is it ok if he sings us this to get some isk back?

Start over if you want; two months is not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.
But if you do start over, and you want to start right, just join one of the large, legit noob corps. There are several. EVE University, Red v. Blue, and Brave Newbies, Inc. all come to mind. These are corps where lots and lots of new people just like you join to learn the game. Unlike 95% of crappy little two-man high sec corps in game, they will give you real help like free skillbooks and cheap ships and fittings to use while you're learning to play (and learning how to make ISK on your own). And when you're ready to move on, you will find that a lot of legit and more "elite" corps recruit from these big high sec noob corps to fill their ranks.
There are also a few starter corps that have pretty good communities, and you can join those for free just by rolling a new alt in the right school. Center for Applied Studies (Gallente) is the only one that I have personal knowledge of, but there may be other starter corps that have long term helpful players. They will also have a certain run of trolling alts who just use the NPC corp as a personal decshield. But they're still better than 80% of the player corps you will find.
Getting in with a good group of fellow noobs at the start will make a huge difference in how much fun you have and how long you ultimately stay. It's probably the biggest single "easy" choice you can make at the start to improve your experience. |

Do all of your factions tutorials. Sell all of the ships you get from the missions.
Do all of another factions tutorials. Sell those ships.
You will end up with either a bunch of ships or several million isk or both.
That should be enough for a jumpstart. |

As one of the founding members of his last corp I find this whole thread deplorable.
Since the first time i met Vicious Edwards he has feigned not knowing what to do in Eve. We have spent countless hours giving him advice, giving him ships and equipment and generally trying to be his friend. He would log on and we would say hello to him and he would start out by saying he was lost, day after day. We have never once asked him for one ISK, NOT ONE!
We have never, nor will we ever ask for ISK for a player to join us or continue to be a member of the corp. The only thing we ask of our members is to participate once a week in a corp mining op for a minimum 3 hours. AND, that mining op isn't a requirement.
So before you automatically assume the person posting this whine thread is telling the truth, you might ask one of the corp members. There are plenty to randomly ask too.

Time is the only asset that cannot be bought in EVE Online and that is what makes it and the skill points that come along with it priceless. Unless your skills are truly ridiculous you should never think about restarting. You might say " but I can buy skill points by buying a toon". This is not true.. a bought toon will always be looked down upon and it will never feel truly yours since you didn't put in any time creating it nor did you make the skill choices that make it unique and personalize it yourself. Furthermore a bought toon can have a history a mile long, require a shitload of repetitive missioning to get standings and could be a hated pirate for all you know. The kill sheet, friends and enemies that come with it will never be yours as well. All you will ever be is "that guy who bought X's account".
Your original toon is your EVE identity and your passport proof of experience. Cherish and value it as it is part of your future in this game. Some major alliances require you to still own your original toon even when you have 20 alts. They will not recruit newbs with bought toons. Hope you keep this in mind.
TLTR: I recommend you keep it.

Keep the same character-- when I resubbed I decided to do so on ali instead of making a new character, and that decision has saved me a couple of skilltrains ("wait, why the f--- did I think remote armor repair systems 5 was a good decision? I haven't used it for months...welll....okay, now I can fly logi"). I did so even though I had some bad associations with previous play attempts.
Like others have said, keep at it, you'll be able to pick yourself up and get back on your feet in no time :) If you haven't tried it yet, ninja salvaging is a fantastic way to make a lot of isk in a cheap ship-- think of yourself as basically a Remora alongside a shark (missioning boat.
