So, I just resubbed like a dirty dirty addict & got thinking about something I was working on way back when - a system for doing Indications of Interest (ie. fancy WTB/WTS).
This was originally back when there was a bunch of stuff which didn't have a market and could only be done by contracts so probably doesn't have as wide a potential user-base anymore which is why I'm asking first rather than doing a "build it and they will come" type approach.
Now, I don't really do anything with the kind of volumes to actually use them but as far as I know this kind of thing is all done by mailing lists which aren't exactly easy to keep track of & don't exactly offer much flexibility.
The general look of it is similar to the market and it will allow things like: Building up lists of specific characters/corps/alliances to make it visible to or block (or show to everyone). Highlighting for when someone enters one that would cross with yours. Timed visibility Auto-repricing. API checks to make sure that someone isn't putting up "WTS a billion PLEX for 5isk" if they don't have a billion ISK
I need to refactor the hell out of it & probably give it a shiny web front-end instead of the clunky placeholder client application its got, but assuming I finished it off would it be of interest to anyone?
Sorry if its this ought to be in the Technology Lab, I just wanted to do some market research on it rather than show anything off so hope its ok to be here. :) |

if i understood correctly, you basically reimplemented the market out of game. i do not see it as very valuable because it has to a) compete with the established (albeit imperfect) trading methods, b) is bound to produce additional interaction overhead for the users that the EVE market does not have and c) will b prone to scamming one way or another.
i respect the effort though and will be pleasantly surprised if this thing takes off.

It's not quite "the market, but outside the game", so much as a fancier way of doing "WTB/WTS" type stuff than using mailing lists. The idea being that it allows you to do more sophisticated stuff and displays it in a clear layout.
The advantage of it being out of the game is the same as of using any mailing lists etc. - it allows you to do deals within the spread.
Its an interaction overhead, sure, but its a lot less inconvenient than trawling through loads of mails. |
