A recent announcement by CCP indicates 20% of their staff will be let go. Out of 600+ staff this suggests that 120 people will be fired so CCP can focus more on Eve. This massive layoff appears to be the result of failed efforts to increase subscriber numbers and improve the game despite a 100,000 subscriber increase from 2008 to 2009.
Although the community has expressed its concerns and well wishes to those that will lose their jobs. I don't think they understand the severity of unemployment CCP will be creating. I just wanted to point that out. For all the hard work the staff do for the game I thought they deserved a little more attention. |

Laying off staff to save the whole is sometimes necessary. Telling your friends that they won't be coming in to work tomorrow is one of the hardest things you can do. Unemployment is a harsh time and I'm sure management knows this. You also don't know what severance benefits may have been handed out as those are a private matter between employee and employer.
CCP reached far and didn't quite hit their goals but did the tough thing and restructured so they can survive to try again.
Those that are gone will be missed and hopefully they'll return as players and maybe return to CCP someday.

CCP has already stated that subscription count is higher than it did last year and that it is growing every year since 2003. TL;DR = Subscription count is higher then ever.
Quote:First, EVE Online is in good health. Our subscriber numbers are higher today than they were a year ago. Unlike many other MMO's on the market, we have continued to grow year-on-year since launch in 2003. However, over the past two months, our subscribers have gone down from their peak this summer. We attribute this to our own mistakes and poor communications with our players. We are correcting that now.
Sure they lost a few during summer which they probably would get back during the winter expansion.
The reason they fired some of their employees is because they picked up to much hay on their fork which resulted in less attention for their main game. In order to improve this they refocused their resources. ~ When everything fades away, an echo is the only sound that will remain ~ -á-á~ Chaos is a name for any order that produces confusion in our minds ~ |

they cut development on WoD, and stole some of the devs and put them on eve. they're going to get redundant staff when they do that. Anyone who is blue to DRF are cowards and have failed Eve.

You're a week late, you could have just kept it to one of the other threads on the subject instead of shitting up the GD with even more threads on the subject. |
