You would think that after a near annihilation someone would have said "Guys lets just take a few days off till their is a timer that matters or Boodabooda comes out of hiding an finally has his SOTA." You would think that while you gave your line members that time off from serious internet spaceship business there would be some sort of meeting between the 4 star generals in the PL/Nulli/NC./TEST group or (Punter Coalition as I like to think of them for kicking all those capital kills our way) and discuss just what went wrong. Maybe even shuffle up some of the command structure so certain alliances will have babbysitters keeping them from going face first into a burning stove. I won't name names but from the kill mails and suddenly cancelled SOTA you can guess who.
So imagine my surprise when someone across the way in Fountain decided that there had to be a fight today. Not just some small skirmish either but a fleet comp similar to the one in Z9PP. Except this time there were no GM spelling errors to save TEST and friends. Numbers were certainly an issue in this fight as the CFC managed to outnumber their foes rather handily. So the question becomes why did this happen and why the imbalance of numbers of the field?
Huffing one's own propaganda. Put into the context of movie Scarface:Never get high off your own supply.
After the unscheduled end of the Z9PP fight TEST members immediately took to the forums making wild claims that CCP had saved Goons. This I suspect was a measure of deflecting the obvious as the battle report from Z9PP did not look well for TEST nor did their decision to escalate which sat poorly with their allies. Its one thing to try and save face or troll your enemy but another to buy into your own lies. So imagine you are a prize fighter coming off a few big wins looking at a title shot. Your fans are behind you and you've got high spirits that translates into some great training sessions. Fight night rolls around and the stands are packed with your people cheering you on. MC Hammer might as well be singing "Can't Touch This" ring side as you dance around your opponent raining hooks uncontested. That morale boost you had rolling into that fight definitely translated into your victory.
The opposite side of that analogy is being the champion who gets unseated in an upset. Its hard for a lot of prize fighters to make a comeback after being on top or on their way to the top. In TEST's case its losing a real fight after only ever facing a bunch of Tomato Cans. For those of you not familiar with boxing a Tomato Can is a boxer that is only good for getting beat up by up and coming fighters. But for the sake of argument lets just roll with the dethroned champion rolling in doubt and psychologically vulnerable from the sudden shift of being a somebody to a non-person over night. Usually they take some significant time off to train and get their head straight. Those that don't often find themselves struggling to win or win convincingly like in the "old days." Your fans think you are a bum and no longer pack the stands for you. Things are pretty miserable.
So why did a punch drunk TEST get back into the ring with the CFC so quickly? Enter the metaphorical Don King. Don King is a rather unscrupulous boxing promoter uses up fighters till he can no longer wring a buck out of them and kicks them to the curb. He believes his own lies and is renowned for his greed ruining the sport. There are a number of Don Kings in the Punter Coalition. Each has their own reasons for rushing TEST back into a fight. For TEST their leadership believes that honestly won Z9PP but the lack of line members forming up today suggests a disconnect between management and labor. Nulli and NC. have obsessive fixation on the CFC and are more than happy to use the bodies of TEST members to throw at Goons. Even if the end result is TEST folding and Nulli moving into Delve. More money in Mr. Don King's pocket. PL is in it for the fights as they have never had any bad relations with the CFC and in looking for those fights they probably pushed TEST a little to hard.
So TEST is thrown back into the ring stumbling around against a confident opponent intent on doing damage. So what happened at the fight. Well the hostiles fell apart costing them dreads and carriers. One hysterical TEST dread pilot started blaping PL Rohks as they were going down. Probably sad he would not have it replaced anytime soon and cravenly trying to rack up kills to justify it's loss. You had fewer reinforcements wanting to go into the fight where the CFC was never on the backfoot. The end result is what was once a blip on the radar has become a pulsing signal that the Punter Coalition is in trouble. Maybe next time someone will question if to much spin being flung around leadership and line members is a bad thing? |
