Whine about missiles, whine about Caldari ships, whine about Amarr, whine about Minnies, whine about Gallente, whine about lasers cap use, whine about EWAR, whine about drones, whine about bad dps, whine about bad gank, whine about blaster CPU and cap, whine about nos....
That list can go on.
We complain about how x and y and z sucks so bad. And Im guilty of it too. In fact Im probably at the top of the guilty list.
But, if you fly around in 0.0, fight in an empire war, or do anything truly pvp related, you see pretty much every ship being flown by someone. I see Sacriliges, I see Raptors, I see Jaguars and Stilettos. I see a lot of Typhoons.
Does it follow, then, that regardless of the numbers and arguments we throw up, since *everything* has its downsides - that Eve is pretty well balanced?

heh ... that's my exact impression :-)
But OTOH there are more cons on some ships/modules than others.
As for the PvP, those who choose to PvP fly the best that suits them. Those who are forced to PvP fly the best that suits them. As both groups have different primary goals, you prretty much see all ships, just some more often. Also the cash limited ppl like me try the best they can (that's the raptors and hawks for example) :-) ------------------------------ Removed due to offensive content - Laqum

I hate to see this nice thread sink beneath a heap of sky is falling news. I agree whole heartedly, a glimpse at most alliance killboards tells you that ships of all kinds are dying, and ships of all kinds are killing. Of course in a sisi 1v1 situation not all ships are equal, and yes there are cases to be made for various ships / modules to be buffed / nerfed. But variety is the spice of life, and I think 90%, even of PvP'ers choose ships because they "feel nice".
Right, now I'm off to work out how the hell to fit an extra midslot module onto something with the same CPU as a mega... WTB : Vindi with 40 more CPU.... ....

IMO there is a few things that are overpowered but nothing major. All in all it's pretty well balanced. There was a need for changes for some ships (Belliclose.......) but the devs did this with the upcomming patch so yes eve is quite well balanced. Way to go devs!

In EVE, knowledge is disempowering.
Ergo, only those who are willing to gather enough optimistic zergers willing ignore the details in order to actually try something will succeed.

CCP is doing a fine ob on bringing balance and promoting mixed fleets. Especially with the ships coming soon. My corpmates and I are all very excited to try out different combinations to compliment eachother and see what gang variations we can come up with post patch. There will always be someone whining about something, I'm just as guilty of it as anyone else is. But overall Eve is becoming more and more balanced and its a good thing.

Its pretty well balanced at the moment, and if anything is found to be overpowered or un-balanced then it is hit with a swing of the dredded nerf bat. Pulse lasers for example, then they were missiles, soon there will be damage mods that get a nerf then im guessing cap rechargers will get a nerf.
Basically everything in eve changes, the devs like variety thats why they want to have different ships and so forth but they also want to maintain balance to the game. More often than not, when something is nerfed people find a new way to exploit the situation.
Take for example the MWD this was nerfed so then people started flying with oversized AB's then they were nerfed, resulting in most people using AB's instead.
(I think it was the wrong way to go with them personally the whole sig radius/cap penalty sucks but hey)
My point is if anything is overpowered or un-balanced, eventually it will get hit with the nerf bat, so keep having fun, dont worry about it, and if your favorate ship is hit by the nerf bat, just adapt and come up with a new stratagy.

Is it balanced perfectly? Hell no, but that's impossible, is it getting closer and closer the longer EVE is running. Hell yes. EVE is too complex to get it just right, but it can get mighty close, and I think it's on the right track. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

Edited by: Other Minion on 05/12/2005 12:35:36 All I can say is ECM balances all. Even a Heron kills crap with damps and nos. Slowly, but it does. Just don't get within 5km.
edit- except that gallente Titan that is kicking ass on sisi, its the more or less finished version too. Damn thing has about 8 bonuses.

I think a good sign of balance is when everyone screams that their own ship is unbalanced.
Basically, balance means everyone is unhappy, or atleast seems to be.

Wrong game.
The balance and variety in eve is why I have played it for nearly 2 years now, and I bet someone at ccp is reading this thread justnow loving the fact that they are doing a good job. -----[ The Riddle Of Steel Has Been Born ]----- |

Nah EVE is not balanced, just no race now has the best ships in nearly every category. The problem being of course that now every race has some absoulte trash ships.
I, don't, think, you, trust, in my self-righteous suicide. |

Edited by: Deros on 05/12/2005 12:49:39 The game is in about as balanced a state as it has been in a long while, which is good.
Whether it remains in balance after the RMR patch is yet to be seen, but i dont think it will.
Tempests are being nerfed, Stabs are not as yet being nerfed << bad things
But we also get a lot of new additions, which is good.

In order to truly reach a balanced state we need more whining from Amarrian characters I think. There's not nearly enough of it and CCP must impose a "must whine" penalty on all Amarr chars ASAP !
Seriously - it's not so much that whining has reduced, it's more that the issues people are whining over are so miniscule now that they are getting ridiculous. Good job CCP.

Of the MMORPG's i've played, CCP certainly are doing the best job of the dev's so far. It's not perfect, it's not completely ballanced, but heck, neither is life. Life sucks, get a #'n helmet. -Denis Leary |

As a Minmatar at heart, this makes me want to cry. Not until projectiles receive a reasonable buff will I be flying a Minmatar battleship again.
But as a balancing factor, the Rifter and the Rupture are now seriously own, the Cyclone is a pwnmobile, the Vagabond still owns, we get possibly the best T2 destroyer in the Sabre, and the Sleipnir is going to be omgwtfbbq with 7x Medium guns of either kind. And both DCU and improved shieldtanking are a very big boost to us, as far as I'm concerned.
My shield skills, and small and medium specialisations are getting trained to 5, along with my Battlecruiser skills. If Minmatar are balanced by the fact their non-BS ships rock hard, then it's those that I'll be flying.
The balance is there, you just have to find it :)

no eve is not balanced at all. the whining about this and that are usually uninformed people who cannot read facts and jumps to conclusions way to fast. then you have the legitimate gripes where some informed ppl back their complaints up with facts like meridius does as a example.
the biggest problem with balance in eve is that the Devs when trying to balance something goes overboard to one side. look at how heavy missiles have been. how zealot will be pretty useless and how the dominix will be the new "i win" button.

all calculations support the fact that the zealot will be the least dmg dealing HAC post RMR and will still be as easy to shut down with one module. and that the Domi will be doing way more then a gankageddon can do now. its not my own calculations it is fact.

ships are platforms that ouy fit and enlighten with your skills. i don't think there is a win button. some ships are just rather useless for some tasks but really handy for others. i was whining about the pulse nerf myself a while back but hey, i adopted and use each of the lasers for what it is intended now. get a grip of what a ship/module can do, experiemtna dn have fun!
