Hi folks, Question : I am ready to start the cruiser lvl 5 skill. I can do either Gallente, Caldari or Minmatar. I am kinda lost at to what HAc is best. I am gonna use mainly for PvP and some lvl3/4 missions (erm, which is about all ya can actually : )). I have 2 mill sp in gunnery, so gallente seems like a good choice, but i dont really like the close range kinda fighting. Caldari ships spawn missiles, but i aint got that many sp there yet (500k). I can train ofcourse. Minmatar ships look kinda weak compared to caldari and gallente.
So any of you guys have any experience with some of the HACs and can gimme some help with choosing wisely ?

I personally am aiming for a Deimos, i am cal but i love blasters, nothing better than getting up close and personal and givin them a broadside, but many will vouch for the Ishtar for its immense drone usage. Also the Eagle is a sniping platform, cerbs are for missile spammage, cant comment on matari at all, i only fly their shuttles. No idea about amaar really either.

Theres no best HAC.
Gallente got high DPS and good for mission running/npcing. But on the other hand they are quite slow compared to some HACs.
Caldari HACs are long-range ones, Cerberus can be great agent running ship but you need high missle skills for it. Can be good tank.
Minmatar HACs maybe more pvp focused. Vagabond is fastest cruiser-sized ship in EVE, capable of reaching inty speeds with MWD II. Yet it can pack quite good amount of dps with great rof. Muninn is long-range arty HAC that can be considered as small Tempest. -=-

but the cerberus still doesn't have a dronebay and drones get a great damage boost with RMR (fought a deimos with medium drones yesterday those things HURT)

Having just got both a Deimos and Ishtar I can say that the later seems a bit easier to use when npcing while the Deimos is a very involving ship when fighting.....although compared to others I wouldn't have a clue how they stack up. ----------- I would have a sig but it might break a arm, leg or even worse a rule. |

There is sooo much more to a hac than "cruiser V"
If you have great drone skills go for minnie
If you have great arty/autocannon skills go for minnie
and so on.
I mean, you have 2 mill SP in gunnery (not much), probably nothing in missiles and yet you are considering those hacs.
You will climb into it underskilled and come back here and say you dont see what is so great about them.

Agreed - if your 2M gunnery are all in hybrids, then Gallente would seem like a good choice. Train up your drone skills and use the Ishtar or fire in blasting with the Deimos. I've got both and like them both a lot (although my enthusiasm for the Deimos is waning a bit)...
Amarr HACs have very good damage output (well, the Zealot has).
Minmatar/Caldari HACs tend to be cheaper because they aren't so good atm, but that will change. The choice, as they say, is yours.

Well if you decide to go Minmatar HACs, I would get a Vagabond over a Munnin. Munnins are "slightly upgraded Ruptures" more than "small Tempests". A Munnin's improvement over a Rupture is not proportional to it cost. Vagabonds are better than Stabbers in almost every way and make excellent pvp or pve ships (especially if you run missions or complexes with a buddy or two). Then again, shield boosting is going to be the "new thing" after the patch, so training Caldari cruiser is not a bad idea. By the way, there is no "best HAC" so, like someone mentioned, it is a better idea to continue down the gunnery path you have started instead of starting over.
