The fact that they got Awoxed and lost a ton of ships, yeah, it can happen to anyone, even PL, if the Awoxer's are smart and patient enough.
But the interesting stuff I learned about PL was how they responded to it. A lot of the guys were really chill about the losses in the Soundcloud recording.
But a great number of voices (don't know the names associated with them) screaming about killing people, the white hot rage, and the recriminations and counter-recriminations, that is the interesting stuff.
Yeah, null sec players don't take this game seriously, at all......
I can't see how people who clearly hate each other can operate in a cohesive group. |

I think that's the defining principle here. The white hot rage is coming from Grath, and not really anyone else. You'll find the majority of players are of the more chill variety, you get people like Grath in every game. Go back as far as 10 years and that guy who got his cloudsong stolen. If you listen to the whole thing, he calms down alot toward the end. Honestly I like the guy, he brought up some very valid points, even though he brought them up by smashing it over his supercap pilots heads.
I have no idea what it takes to be careful with expensive assets but jumping blindly, first and foremost, and jumping in range of your enemy jump range without checking your intel seems like a colossally bad idea. And then when they go back and look at bandwidthh history and apparently missed something obvious, it just sounds like complacency set in and bit them.
The super pilots seemed pretty cool about it, they derped, and they knew it. Grath seemed mostly angry about people not taking responsibility for blatant derps (by saying they were set up, he contended that and laid out his reasons), and less about losing the internet pixels. More than anything I felt he takes the image of professionalism of his alliance seriously, and this is serious blow to it. |

You may talk about this guy just being" that way", and shake it off. But if anyone said half the stuff he did and someone complained, they would get banned from the game, or should be. Threatening to drive 12 blocks and assault someone is not just laughed off in most circles of civilization.
But I guess it is OK in the elite world of the null sec powerhouses, which is just piece of evidence confirming my views of the cartels. |

It's just Grath being Grath, it doesn't surprise any of us; and the person he was 'threatening' was Makalu, who actually lives 12 blocks away from Grath.
You can threaten people all you want in any external voice comms, chat clients and forums outside of EVE-O; everyone in that channel found humor in it, understood the points he was trying to convey, and didn't take any offense at all to anything he said. I've been all over nullsec in the past few years, and literally every sov holding alliance has their own version of him.

Less tolerant than them? The man in that soundcloud clip makes at least one racist comment, and appears willing to wipe out a big chunk of alliance.
And no, not everyone has a "friend" like that. If someone tried that in social circles in real life, like at work, or at a party, or in politics, they would very quickly be out of a job, and would be ostracized pretty quick.
But go ahead, keep condoning this behaviour. I have heard enough and read enough to know that this kind of person is looked upon with some element of admiration in this "game", since clearly, this guy has moved to the top echelons of a powerful group within Eve, and the fact that he is accepted within that group, says all I need to know about them. |

First off, people tend to be more open to 'crude humor' when talking among their friends (the active people in PL are pretty vocal, it doesn't take long for you to get acquainted with just about everyone) than they would be speaking to the general public. Just because you don't wade through the streets of wherever telling seemingly off-color jokes doesn't mean you won't laugh a them in the privacy of close company.
Clearly there is a huge seperation of 'fantasy', i.e. who you are in EVE: Online, a bad game; and 'Reality', i.e. who you are to everyone else that can see you sitting your fat ass in front of a computer. Having to actually point that out to you paints you in a worse light than any leaked recording of a relatively stressful moment in a game.
Trying to define anyone's character by the person they portray in an internet spaceship game, or even talking over Mumble to their friends is frivolous and stupid. I'd gladly take 100 Graths over people that can't find the comedic value in things like this any day.
