I've been considering coming back after a three year break, and it's not looking promising.
A lot has changed since I left, and I'm very disappointed in what I'm seeing.
I understand that many of these changes have been necessary, but damn. I came in to find that the 'balance pass' on the exhumers left my mining flagship neutered. It's still the most expensive mining ship you can buy, which I expected, quite frankly. It takes a lot of resources to build it. But to find that both of the other exhumers can mine on par with it, have larger ore holds, better hitpoints, fly faster, and are considerably cheaper to outfit seems that someone had a hate-on for the Hulk. I hope that the same thing hasn't happened to the rest of my miniature fleet.
I figured that I'd do some digging and figure out if it's still worth operating or if I should fly something smaller, so I hopped into the forums and fired up the Search feature. What I found was less than inspiring:
"Info An error occurred while searching."
Time after time after time, over multiple browsers and two computers. Hats off, CCP. Well played
So I fell back on Plan B - check the Evelopedia. You guys were launching this portal as I was leaving three years ago, so it should have some decent information, right?
Wrong.
I Nav to Evelopedia -> Ships -> Mining Barges -> Exhumers and find:
"ORE exhumer designs.
There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs. "
Really? Three years and not even the generic text from the ship descriptions? Not even individual entries for the ships? No link to the appropriate Dev Blog(s) relating to the balance passes? WTF have you been doing?
And that was after fighting your API key generator for twenty minutes trying to gen a key for an ALT I wanted to load into EveMon. It turns out that the generator gives generic
"Something Went Wrong (TM)"
errors when what it should really say is:
"Your Avatar is out of date and has been retired. You need to log into Eve Online and create a new avatar before you can generate an API key."
because the errors the site gives makes it look like the web page is choking on a database call, which gives the impression of poor data layer coding when that clearly isn't the case.
Sooo, rather than spend my five free days mining, ratting, and making shiploads of ISK, I'm going to have to spend them revisiting all my skills, ships, and fittings to be sure that my once-elite ships can even tank rats in .5 sec space.
On a more positive note, I like the account sub specials you're offering, but I figured that after this many years knowing that you have many players with multiple accounts that you'd come up with some multiple-account special that lets players re-sub multiple accounts at a discount. No joy there either.
I always though that the Buddy Program should have had a 'Wingman Program' counterpart for reactivating pre-existing alt accounts. After all, the lesson that 'it's cheaper to keep existing customers than to entice new ones' is part of every marketing class offered anywhere. Hell, it's a maxim in it own right.
Anyway, I'm going to go find the 'usual' list of third-party apps and see WTF I need to re-do to get back out in the cold, hard vacuum.

So basically.. you were gone for three years and are mad cause of changes to your Hulk? Cry me a river!
Let's just ignore.. idk... all the balancing of T1 ships. If that's the only change in 3yrs your gonna talk about... sounds like your the type of person who would baww when James 315 the Father Protector and Savior of High Sec bumps him when mining.

No offense, but that is quite the Wall-Of-UselessAndNotEvenFunnyTears.
Seriously, you came on here to tell us that we didnt make life easy for you and we're.. Bad because of that? "What have you people been doing?" Well we've been playing the game, and havent been typing down useless info about mining ships cause, really, who searches for that stuff anyway? And the Hulk is fine, guess what, its meant to be used in mining fleets, deal with it.
You should hit that edit button and add "TLDR: Im mad cause bad" at the bottom of your post, that way people wont have to read it and they can skip the entire thing entirely. |

I don't see the problem here.
No idea about the search thing, I just used it recently to fine effect.

The funny part is that it's more accurate to say that he's mad because they didn't change the Hulk. It's still the best mining ship of the bunch as far as yield goes. He's just mad that other ships that would have been stupid to try before now have a reason to existGǪ

I feel for you. They call it rebalancing but it's really not. Its the hand holding stance CCP has recently gotten into.
Some people spent a lot of time to become actual miners whcih is all lost now. They nerfed a lot of ships because people whined when they got blowed up They added a "Safety" because people couldn't figure out what to shoot at without concord intervening again more whines They nerfed exploration so now anyone can really do it without much experience... again whines
Moral of the story... whine enough you get what you want. |

To each their own. It was my financial base for exploration and such. As I said, I'm going to have to re evaluate everything before getting back into the game.
Just after the Orca was released, my three-pilot team was pulling in about 75m isk in a few hours in hisec. Just before I left, it was down to 20m for 6-8 hours of mining - certainly not worth it, IMO, which was only a small part of why I left.

You need to go deeper, click the ORE button.
After selecting a ship class you then need to select a faction. In this case the only faction is ORE.
Try this with any other category.
-Evelopedia Home -Ships -Battecrusiers (Mining barges) -Command ships (Exhumers) -Amarr (ORE) THEN you get the abso and damnation The Drake is a Lie |

Yeah, Evelopedia is way out-of-date and is in dire need of updating.
Exhumers are not that bad, kind of makes sense in some ways. Hulks are more for gang mining these days.
Special offers come and go, just got to get the timing right.
Old avatar system is not compatible with the new system, nothing strange there.
After coming back after 3 years it's worth catching up on the changes even if it takes a couple of days.
You must be at least tempted even if it's just on memory otherwise you wouldn't be here.
Anyway welcome back! |

Some Exhumers are now more survivable, some are better at working solo (larger cargo hold), and some... like your HULK... have the best yield. This sounds like what you are after, the highest yield available... and the HULK has a clear advantage over the others in this regard.
It's emphasis really has been shifted to be more of a Null sec mining vessel, where you can control the area vs hostiles and will likely have industrial support for hauling your ore (obviously with link support). That's not to say it isn't just as yield focused in High Sec, it's just not as survivable because you can't control the area.
The other vessels are designed to be more survivable in High sec, where you have to deal with unexpected suicide gank attempts... or are frequently mining solo and need a larger hold.
For the search function I think that simply typing in HULK returns too many responses for the system. Try "Hulk competitive" and you should find the information you are seeking. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Exploration got revamped in the last expansion, you may like this more now. Mining has had a pretty terrible income for a long time, the new large ore hold afk barges don't help the situation. |
