You can only jump to the ship if it has a pilot.
Ovuer, you forgot to mention a few things:
1. You're removing the jump drive from carriers and giving them a warp drive, making them usable in Empire.
2. You're removing their ability to assign fighters to other people.
3. You're making them unable to use mission acceleration gates, and they can only enter 10/10 complexes, if any complex at all, you're still on the fence about it.
4. CONCORD will get upgraded, and if a carrier does something that requires some wtfpwning, CONCORD sends in its special warp-drive fitted Dreads who then go into seige-mode and pwn your carrier so hard you'd think you were an Amarrian facing a Jove mothership.
5. You're EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME.
As far as I know these were just ideas being thrown around. And CCP would look into allowing the smaller carriers into hi-sec empire

All ships have a warp drive.. just so you know. Carriers might, however, gain the ability to use gates.
Yeah that should've read as 'removing the jump drive, leaving them with a warp drive, and making them usable in empire'.
The gate use ability it what I was going for. Honestly if they're worried about carriers becoming uber mission whoring ships (they would), they can make them unable to use mission gates (This gate is unable to generate the energy required for your ship's size, or something), which shouldnt be hard, and limit fighter assignment to mothers and titans.

I think carriers (not motherships) should have a unificient jump drive and use gates. they are capital logisic's shis still after all but also fleet assets moreso than a mothership. so all in all they should have the benifits of both on a smaller scale.

how would the criminal flagging work then? if the carrier assigns the fighters to a person and then the person uses the fighters to gank someone in low sec empire?

ok how about this... 2 carriers remote armor repping each other tanking concord indefinetly and letting their fighters just butcher everything at the gate? Its easily possible with a 3rd T2 BC running gang mods and the mindlink implant... esp since capital ships are supposed to be immune to EW.

Exploit per CCP. Gotta lose your ship by the end of the day.
I'd suggest making docking with a Titan a password-locked thing, like accessing POS functions. That handles the theft issue and pilot assignment issue, but still leaves one hell of an opportunity for some GREAT corp. theft stories.
I say password lock AND grantable role. That way you can grant 1000 people the role, but set the password only to whoever should be flying it.

If you trust someone to fly your Titan, but not also be a Director...I would have to wonder about the integrity of your corp's leadership.
Do you plan on having Titans being flown by people who you wouldnt want able to recruit? Or not trust your leaders enough to have them flying the Titans?
The very idea that you would trust a non Director more with your Titan than a Director...stupifies me.

I don't think it's issue of trust, but simple logic. Why cram that function into roles of corp director, when it has very little to do with being one?
If it's made separate from being a director, then there's nothing stopping the corp leaders from granting the would-be pilot both of these roles, or just one of them... as they see fit. And it's really no one's business but theirs if they should mix these two...

Edited by: Jaabaa Prime on 07/12/2005 03:08:17 I think a Titan or Mothership should be able to have more than 1 pilot.
I don't know how it could be implemented in EVE, but I can imagine it being a major pain in the prevebial if a pilot were to be away for the weekend when it's in his possesion and his corp/alliance needs it.
I would suggest pilots can logoff in the Titan or Mothership, be assigned as pilots by their CEO, and when they logon and there isn't another pilot in the ship on line they assume control, as long as they are in the ship of course.
Role: Ultra Capital Ship pilot Assigned to: "Th3 uber Tit4n"
Characters in Role and Ship:
Jaabaa Primary *) Jaabaa Secondary *) Jaabaa Tertiary *)
*) Apply names as required in your corp/alliance.
If there is already a pilot online in "your" Titan or Mothership you can get into another ship in the corp hangar, or the CEO/a Director can assign command to you as you logon and the current pilot has to take another ship or stay docked and or logoff.
They are a MAJOR investment, and they shouldn't be unavailable just because the primary pilot isn't online. ---------

you think it will take them that long to figure out whats going on?
I like the capitol ship role idea AND password protection. Something worth that much needs more then one layer of secuirty at a minimumnull

Originally by: Happysin Not that it is a matter for li'l ol' me, but I fear the insurance on a Titan more than the potential theft.
Honestly, this sounds like asking for a technical solution to a social issue. Should someone steal a Titan, you can guarantee they will be hunted to the ends of the galaxy, and unless they are leaving to another major alliance, there is no way they could support it and flee all at once.
Alliances trying to steal each other's Titan by offering thier corp members a sweet deal seems like a valid tactic.
This man, is smart. I agree totally. The best part of EVE is it doesnt try to keep players nice. If an alliances titan pilot wants to defect, go for it.
Of course, with teh ability to track and hut that SoB down, that person will effectively be unable to play EVE.

Easy, a fleet of battleships, cruisers, and frigates to defend them from would be attackers.

I would tend to agree, but I also think it's better to err on the side of having too fine-grained access control measures than not enough. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

Even if that was done that way, wouldn't a Director by definition have access anyway?
I guess it really comes down to how your corp operates.
I do think the current system could use a lot of work.

Maybe add a check box somewhere on the ship to indicate it's a corp asset so it can never be stolen or refined. If the pilot leaves the corp or cancels their account, the ship might autopilot home or become invulnerable waiting to be picked up. Maybe give the directors a function to remotely call the ship back and over-ride the pilot. If the pilot was trying to defect or grief the corp, the corp could have some podding fun when the ship returns.

here's a thought. how the hell are you supposed to sell a mothership if you cant dock one? It's one thing trusting fellow corp members at a pos, but what if people want to sell them commericially? Is buying/selling motherships going to be a faith based industry? |

A bigger problem is how do you transport the things; you dont want to have your elite titan pilots putting the things around space for sale now, they should be busy WTFPWNing biznatches :)
Imagine the resources required to create an industrial big enough to carry the bastards :) you would need a whole sector load of minmatar working around the clock just to package the thing for shipment. Not to mention the new market for crowbars and vasoline created to load the packaged monstrosity into said industrial.
Ok, I probably need to drink less coffee... err! jak.

CONCORD doesn't have to play by the rules. Beef up their EW so that cap ships aren't immune. Or give them a "Jove Cannon of WTFBBQPWNage". Or spawn 800 of them. The lag in that system would keep people from warping into the danger zone until CONCORD finally destroyed them.

Some numbers and skill figured thrown out in this thread are not accurate. Just so everyone is clear:
Skill reqs and prices (domain region)
Mothership Faction carrier skill 450mil (note: dread skills are 90mil) Capital ships skill 360mil Advanced Spaceship command 45mil (this is beyond the BS skills and this does not include jump drive operations or any skills for using captial modules, fighters or anything)
Titans same as above but include 4.5 mil for factional titan skill
