Steve Spooner wrote:The question at hand is why would anyone in their right minds play Dust over Planetside 2, a game with FAR more polish and far less bad mechanics, shooting, bullcrap, and basically things that make the game unenjoyable.
Very Simple.
PS2 is filled with 1000's of every type of bot known to man which makes it damn near impossible to play without cheating yourself.
So yes whilst it is more polished with better mechanics it is also filled with people who appear out of the floor, kill you and then disappear again or people who will head shot you half a mile away with the precision of a terminator.
So yeah.. lots of fun :) |

And how was CCP going to pay for it, when 500k players play it's flagship, and a good chunk of them for "free"?
CCP isn't on the stock exchange either.
They have to get funds, and Sony wanted an exclusive. If they just said no, no funds. And they'll be but a one trick pony, with all the problems we're seeing with PC only games -- not enough new players are playing on PCs. If 1 in 10 only stays to play, the game won't survive as there's fewer and fewer to replace vets that leave. Volume only comes if the publishers tap into all the markets.
It's a method for Sony to get it's Playstation only content and CCP funds.
Now incorporating it into EvE, the logistics is a nightmare. Stand alone, much easier (EvE was never designed for consoles in mind. In 2000 [when EvE was being built] consoles were but toys). The engine is old. To make DUST work with EvE, is like WoW working with Titan. Unless EvE is rewritten as EvE 2.0 it won't work. Can't even get POS code fixed because it'll break the game, and that just with EvE.

You can't compare "daily revenue" with a traditional purchase price game. There is no comparison. Sounds like weasel words to me. |

Yeah because console cheats like aimbots and wallhacks can't be found on the internet right?

While very possible, it is much more difficult than on a PC, and often requires you to buy extra hardware and kits that costs quite a lot. Lolwut: "Yes, you kids don't know how lucky you have it. All the other tools and bots and whatever else you are referring to in the sandbox games are another issue and it isnt relevant to the discussion about Dust 514 players gaining an edge over each other. You are right though EVE has crazy botting problems but meh related to Dust - Othran wrote:Xlex Dominator wrote:If it went PC, it would be plagued by aimbots and ESP and all sorts of other hax that plague all the other PC FPS games. ******* hell buddy, you're playing Eve and you're bothered by stuff like that? Eve has had more "hax" than you've had hot dinners and I dunno whether its escaped your attention but there's been tens of thousands of "bots" in Eve over the years. Possibly hundreds of thousands. This is Eve. Everyone assumes everyone else is cheating. Sometimes they're right
The thing to remember about any good shooter on the computer is the ability to host dedicated servers and be your own admin. I've been playing FPS games on PC since 2003 and I've only ever seen ONE aimbot, and the player was banned from the server in less than four seconds.
You're seriously overplaying the aimbot situation for the PC and you're also confusing bad games for FPS with bots. IF it doesn't have a dedicated server list it is a garbage game.
End of story.
That's why Dust should just be abandoned instead of brought to the PC. They need to overhaul and work on EVE...There are a lot more things they can add to the game that the players would enjoy. |

CCP isn't on the stock exchange either. Simple: by having 500k paid-for subscribers that each means ~$15 a month in income, and by having investors chip in large wads of cash to pay for development costs.

How were you spotting them? Because you would have to be actively admining 24/7 (I had a BF3 server for months myself) and viewing the streams and snapshots to verify never seeing more than ONE aimbot. Besides the Punkbuster notices will show on the coms when multihacks and aimbots are detected (almost 2 for every match) anyway.
And that's with any Punkbuster enabled server. GCC/Stream as well.
To catch them takes work, and using all the tools, especially streaming (which doesn't catch glitchers or some of the paid hacks).
When BF3 opened there was so many hacks, it was knee deep. You could tell when the match starts a player is killing 100 players (kills so fast it was watching the score go up by the 10s) before getting out of the starting area IT WAS HACKED. I banned those players on sight, as no excuse they made could even possibly make up for killing that many, that soon, and not even in range to kill anyone.
FPS games truly have a problem with that, and as long as they maintain public scoreboards to ePeen for, it'll remain. "In a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." ~George Orwell

I like it how people still think there are any 'free' accounts....
An account can only be financed by either cash $ or plex.....guess what? Someone paid cash $ for those plex that fund your 'free' accounts dumbasses.
CCP wins again. Every active account has money put into it (might not be yours but 'someone' paid for it). That is the Way, the Tao.

Alot of people said back when Dust was announced that a console only MMO EFFPEEESS was a bad idea for alot of reasons. If dust would be on PC not only would you have more than 256mb of RAM and a crappy Cell processor to play with, you would also have it on a platform with more than a year left in it's lifespan.
CCP probably just looked at COD and Halo sales and said to themselves "Holy ****, theres a huge market for console FPS's" which is true but those games are major franchises that took a while to get established to say the least, and this is not mention their massive marketing and dumbed down gameplay.
I guess the damage is already done, Dust was a product of the CCP that brought us Dominion sov and the NEX store. Let's just hope they put that **** behind them. ______

The problem is not that is was a PS3 exclusive or that it wasn't released for the PC, the problem with Dust is CCP.
CCP have released a game which to be quite honest is not finished.
They rushed it to release when even now it still feels and plays like a game in beta.
It was a typical CCP move, Say your going to do something special, amazing, innovative then release a half finished, half arsed product full of bugs, bad mechanics, poorly thought out planning, refuse to listen to everybody who is testing it telling you what the problems are and then do sweet FA about it.
Then to really put the cherry on the cake, instead of pullin gout all the stop to fix those glaring errors, bug and crappy mechanics which is killing the game, you sit on your arse and do Sweet FA whilst the games flounders like a huge beached whale slowly dying in the mid day sun

Unlike everyone else here, im nota programmer, software developer or network manager. But i would like to meet the person who thought they could make an fps financially viable for more than a year even if it was the best fps at the time of release.

I've been playing.... not a lot of people there though. A lot of people just log into public games and just stand around. They don't actually do anything. Most public games come down to how many of the players on your team are even going to play in the match. I would say DUST is already dead right now. It feels like a buggy ghost town.
I don't know... I want to see it take off. Really. I just think it's got a long way to go before it's actually considered a "good" FPS. If you are used to CoD or Halo, DUST is going to feel really dated and cheap. It's NOT a AAA game. It's a B Roll game.
DUST is a lot easier to walk away from than EvE. Here's hoping it gets better.
