OK first. I have no intention of trying the scamming game, nor is this intended as a debate as to the morality of it as a game style. Scamming is a part of Eve, end of!
But, I have just been to 'Crazy Town' (Amarr system) to sell some stuff an restock a few things. I always call it 'Carzy Town' because from the moment I jump in, to the moment I jump out my local is minimized, to stop me being distracted by all of the drivvel. A big percentage of that drivvel is obvious attemps at running scams. I'm just interested to know. Do people make money at this, or it it just something done for the lulz, gaggles & sh*ts? |

I spent some time in Tash-Murkon yesterday, it's even starting there. No more than 10 minutes in local and I saw at least 4 different scams. I make spacemusic. www.minddivided.com |

For every every smart player avoiding scams there's an idiot just begging to lose some cash. This is unfortunately the reason scamming is so popular. It does take a lot of time and the outcome is not the best and is quite erratic (which is why I prefer stable legitimate sources of income) but yes, scamming makes money. Best way to see this is to find a contract scammer in local, someone that's been around a while. Show Info on them. then click the top left icon and click "Show Contracts". this will show you their completed public contracts. You'll usually see a LOT of people that have fallen for scams on these lists. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. |

Oh, its this again.
"Scammers in eve are going to end up in jail"
The part you missed is, the "victims" generally think they are screwing over the scammer, and getting a good deal at someone elses expense, because they missed a few 0s on a contract, or they think "double my isk? FREE ISK...W0000T"

Maybe CCP wants us to stop using chat? They want us to turn chat off. They accomplish this by allowing us to get flooded with spam chats. Spam chat drives us to disabling chat. Now we can't say bad things about CCP and Sean Decker in chat anymore, 'cause we all got driven off chat by the spam bots. CCP accomplishes it's goal.

I find it very sad that CCP won't deal with the prolific amount of scambots going on in the trade hubs. Someone should start making loads of spambots that spam absolutely nothing useful. I'm pretty sure that would force them to do something about it.
I guess that would be in line with the EvE way of things as well, the playerbase taking things into their own hands.
Personally, i'd vote for constant "CCP, please deal with these spambots!" over and over. Get a couple hundred of those badboys on the go, and we're laughing.
P.S. anyone actually know how they go about making spambots? A link to a tutorial would be handy. Post with your main, like a BOSS! |
