Pretty straight forward. Get your subs to 5. Max out your missile support skills. Train up cybernitcs for pimp implants. |

The Tengu doesn't passive-tank anywhere near as well as the Drake The Defensive: Adaptive Shielding subsystem is much more suited to a shield-spider tanking build, a gang/fleet build
The Drakes passive tank works well because of 2 things the large amount of shield hp the high value in shield recharge rate
your fit has a very low shield recharge rate (12-13 hp/s)
your DPS will suffer against frigates, especially against elite frigates as there are either no rigor/flare rigs installed, nor is there a target painter & webbifier combo instead
consider switching to ->
Defensive: Amplification Node Engineering: Augmented Capacitor
which will will give you the following changes
Lows: -1 Mids: +1 Highs: +1 Launcher Hardpoint
6 launchers is much more DPS
then you have a choice on shield boosting style single small booster, dual small booster, medium booster, or large booster (which will need a slightly different subsystem layout) add rat specific hardners keep the AB add a TP or TP & Web
if you use rigor/flare rigs you wont especially need the TP and web, as fury ammo is then generaly adequate if you add tp & web then you want to use precision ammo on anything smaller than a BC .. and then switch to faction/fury ammo for BC/BS sized targets |

I solo Sanctums and havens in a buffer fit Tengu. You really dont take that much damage and having 30k raw shield hp comes out to like 300k ehp if you specific harden it |

I'm kinda in the same boat as this guy but I haven't purchased my tengu yet. Some of you say there are better boats but dont list what boats? I'm a caldari pilot with good heavy missile skills. What would make a better boat for nullsec? |

TBH you are going to take some level of abuse here on the Tengu regardless.
Is it good for this in HS, yes, are there better boats, yes.
The standard list is;
- Mach - Raven NI - Nightmare - Scorpion NI - Rattlesnake - Domi/Navy Domi
However, if you are like me, they are all battleships and I don't like how slow they are.
So, if you are not blitzing, here are some options that I have used;
- Drake (of course) - Cerberus - Ishtar or now the Navy Vexor
I prefer using cruisers and speed tanking. |

Tengu is better suited for PVE in null sec. In hi sec it is more efficient to use a high end BS, like the Navy Raven.
But using a Tengu is almost as efficient if you put some effort in the micromanagement and use the 6X HAM launcher fit some guy posted before, although only in guristas space.
And it is raw fun.
So the resume would be: If you want to be efficient in hi sec, use a faction or pirate BS. If you still want to use a tengu for L4 in hisec, use a HAM tengu.
I have both and I use them depending on my mood. |

Just curious why that is? Why folks say Tengu for null and BS for high?

A Pithi B-Type should be fine. Due to the Tengu's limited engagement range, feel free to drop the Dissolution Sequencer for the CPU Efficiency Gate subsystem so you can fit T2 modules in place of faction mods. Due to the HAM/HML buffs/nerfs, Javelin HAMs now have equivalent ranges to Fury HMLs for nearly the same DPS, HAMs have better explosion velocity/radius even against Furies with Rigor rigs, and HAMs have the option of doing more DPS after you've closed the range.
An HML Tengu for level 4s is still viable/fine, but it's not the beast it once was.
With the recent cruise missile buff, OP is probably better off in a missile battleship, rather than continuing to pimp out his Tengu skills for high-sec level 4s.

Mainly due to manoverabilty and the ability to fit a covert ops and nullification subsystem. You will want this if you run into bubbles in null. However, the DPS is so horribly gimped when you run both of them that it really quite horrible.
I tend to opt for lower cost stuff that I dont care if it dies (and it will). The Tengu option is just too costly for me to use all that much. For others its the only way to go cause they got ISK to spare.
I am finding AF's and HAC's to be my flavor of the day for this. |

Most people running anoms in null do so in a SOV controlled system. With local and intel channels it really doesn't matter what you fly. Fly what you like, I switch cause i get bored. Nothing wrong with a tengu, it is a little slower than the faction BS, but I used it for almost 2 years before I trained turrets. HML's work better for missions, less traveling around, imo anyway. HAM's are situational.

This is a bit slowish (650m/s) but delivers enough pain with rage at 41km (890dps) and 75km Javelin (600dps) if T2 rigs Not a very expensive ship to fly, not as effective as a Mack or Vindicator but half price (-around 850M all fitted) and good enough imho. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |

I think the point here should be this. Yes a faction BS is going to be more efficient for HS missions but a Tengu is far more versatile in terms of what you can do with it. You cant hop into your Navy Raven and head out to low or null space to plex unless you have a death wish. So you are going to get way more mileage out of perfecting your Tengu skills.
Besides, not everyone likes slowboating in a BS. I used a Tengu exclusively to run lvl 4's in caldari space and was very efficient blitzing kinetic weak npcs. |
