Some questions about possible bugs that need testing.
Titans vs POS
If a titan fires a weapon at a POS will it wipe out everything inside the POS? The main POS defense is that you cant target anything inside the POS. However since the superweapon is an AOE weapon, you dont need to target anything. Given that all the gun modules only have 20k hp. The superweapon could disable all the defenses of a POS and nuke all the defenders inside in 1 shot.... not sure if it was intended
If a titan fires a directed superweapon at a cysonural field inside the POS forcefield. Will everything inside get nuked? I know you can set off smartbombs while inside the forcefield to damage things without targeting them. This is a similar situation but your setting off the superweapon inside the shield.

I don't see anything wrong with a Titan destroying a tower and all anchored structures with one shot of a super weapon. It's called a super weapon for a reason. Besdies, if you enemies can field a Titan against a POS of yours then your've got bigger problem than if it'll kill you in one or three shots. But then i'd be willing to lose up to a medium tower and all 'modules' just to see a titan in action.

Theres the slight fact that large towers have 35 mil hp shield and the superweapon only does 50k dmg :P

Hehehe. yeah thats what I was thinking to. Not exactly going to put it into reenforced mode either. Warp scrambler anyone?

instead of damaging all the pos structures... make all the damage of the structure hit the POS shield directly.. causing masive damage on the POS shield instead on the structures..

The titan superweapon is clearly meant for dominating fleet battles , not for siege .. thats what dreadnaughts are for.

I think you missed the point. When enemies go to their pos, why wait for them to come and play ? Just warp to the pos with the Titan and nuke em with the superweapon and then warp out (titans are immune to ALL ew, including warp scrambling if I am correct) You lost nothing, they lost their entire fleet. Yea, I think we need to see this thing, it's not exactly right to nuke em when they are inside the pos.... they can't even fight back (only sentries will shoot)

Bump. this is potentially critical issue.
If it's possible to destroy modules installed inside the POS shield using titan's area of effect weapon, then the first organization that builds the titan can easily prevent everyone else from building their own, as well as from building other capital ships.
Production of titan takes 6-8 weeks and requires capital assembly array or whatever that module is called, placed in system with sovereignty. It gives owner of already built titan ample time to track down the system with pos equipped with such array... then jump their titan in there, and with click of the button wipe the whole place clean -- both the array (which costs a billion isk itself) and possibly 50+ bil worth of titan sub-parts being assembled in there. Along with POS defenses and whatever else is anchored there. And having done that, the titan can immediately jump out bck to where it came from.
And there's nothing the defenders can do to prevent that. Because killing the titan that jumps in out of a blue like that, at any time during these 6-8 weeks, and takes maybe 15 second to fire the superweapon... is plain impossible.
It should be definitely tested, and if necessary mechanics should be recoded so as long as POS shield stays up, the modules inside take no damage, no matter what.

my guess is these things are just like a smartbomb, just a really uber one. has anyone tested if they sit outside a POS shield and just inside the field there is another ship, does the ship inside the field take damage

even if the wep needed to have a target lock..... a single ship could easily just deploy a can or something close to the shield for the titan to shoot at... and with the range it could luckily strike out a few turrets or something

Edited by: Haram Zada on 12/12/2005 08:59:03 Well, it all depends on how much damage pos defences do to titans. I imagine a lot of citedel torps being bought.
I know the answer, build a pos off grid on the other side of moon so nobody really knows where it is

"Well, it all depends on how much damage pos defences do to titans. I imagine a lot of citedel torps being bought."
Not sure if you understand the possible problem. If the superweapon can damage structures inside the POS, then the titan can simply jump into grid with POS, fire of superweapon (takes few seconds to fire, ship equipped with multiple hardeners and with few hundred k of hp isn't going to have problem surviving that long) ... and then that's it. POS structures are wiped clean. And if they aren't, titan can simply jump back to where it came from, and be back hour later after the superweapon recharges (or even sooner if timer is tied with module rather than ship -- then you'd just need to swap currently equipped superweapon module with fresh one)

Titans are gonna be the death and destruction, and possibly the start of a full race on race war...

This could be tested quite easily and it would be nice to get an answer on it.
I would have to say though that it is fairly clear that the superweapon should not damage anything inside the shields of a POS and that if it did a petition should result in all destroyed items being returned.
Quite simply, the POS shield is greater than the superweapon's damage so nothing inside the shield should be affected by it.

Worth testing. Particularly given the fact the patch will also bring in ships which work as flying ship maintenance arrays. If the superweapon is a module , keep a couple of those stacked in a carrier tasked to escort the titan around. If the cooldown is tied to the module itself that'll go around the restriction neatly. Still not quite the one man pwnmobile but you'd be going somewhere with 3 already (field generator scout, carrier, titan).

Since titan is a mobile maintenance array itself, it's quite likely it can refit itself on the fly using its own array and modules hangar... which, if the cooldown timer is module related, would actually make it the solo pwnmobile indeed o.O;

Thus making it pretty safe to assume that wont be the case... --- "Why can't we all just get along?" |

Edited by: MOS DEF on 13/12/2005 16:14:32 I was there when a dev fired his superweapon on test server. It took away a tiny bit of armor off my revelation dreadnought. I doubt that the titn weapon is a threat to POS at all. Why would it's damage go throught the POS shields? I don't htink it does that. Wouldn't maeke sense wouldn't it?
Edit: Keep in mind what rediculous shields even small POS have.

Yeah but the question is, whether or not CCP have thought of making the pos shield block the superweapon damage.
I guess people just want that confirmed.

"I doubt that the titn weapon is a threat to POS at all. Why would it's damage go throught the POS shields? I don't htink it does that. Wouldn't maeke sense wouldn't it?"
Because, like SengH said in the opening post,
"I know you can set off smartbombs while inside the forcefield to damage things without targeting them. This is a similar situation but your setting off the superweapon inside the shield."
and the amount of damage done by superweapon is enough to kill plenty of POS structures in single shot. And even if it wasn't, nothing really stops the titan from doing multiple runs by jumping in, firing weapon and jumping out, until everything is dead.
it doesn't matter what any of us thinks or how illogical it'd be if allowed. It should be tested and if required, fixed, by these who can actually check it rather than guess.

At any rate there will be plenty of time to test/patch it... Its not like we will see Titans in the game for some time yet. And knowing CCP the superweapon wont be availeble when the first Titan hits the game. --- "Why can't we all just get along?" |
