You need 1 book to initially learn a skill, to learn level 2, you can either drag the skill into the skill queue or right click on skill and chose "Train to level 2" |

I figured it out thx for the help I did do the tutorial missions but after the 15th one I nearly fell asleep afterwords started getting into trying to understand the market and grtting into things that were more complex when I came back to the basics which mind you I had asked on the help channel was informed that lvl 2 books were sold somewhere else this threw me into confusion and started asking around finally resorted to youtube tutorial. Seriously you thought id be able to hold down every tutorial the first time? Experience like this is how I learn. |

i remember one of the first things the game taught me was how to put skills in my skill queue....this was before I was even aware of what skillbooks were. |

I already knew how to put my skill books into the que didnt know that all you had to do afterwords was right click on it then level up almost everything else can get complicated so when it came to this I didnt expect simplicity. |

To be fair, I thought you were asking an entirely different question. Sometimes taking the time to write things out properly can go a long way to getting the help you're asking for. |

But yeah thanks for totally helping me out this is prob why theres only 500,000 playing for an mmo thats not allot; not saying its a bad mmo at all but not only is it hard for those starting but on top of that you get people who only want to put unhelpful/rude posts on forums of those asking for help. Doesnt matter what the problem is its a question you obviously couldnt answer it.
You ask how to set skills because you're too lazy to do the tutorials to learn how.... Umm please make it one less and go back to the MMO that has lots of subscribers *cough WoW cough* |

I believe what I said was more then self explanatory if you couldnt comprehend the concept I was grasping at I believe WoW would be your mmo I dont believe I could have made the subject any clearer. Takari obviously understood, an wetheir I was asking what you percieve as to what I was asking it shouldnt matter what you stated in the beginning had no place in this thread for future reference if you dont fully comprehend the concept and wish to make a remark such as that dont ;) |

I do apologize as work leaves me very over edge and can come off as rude I do not need any unecessary arguments as that seems commonplace on this forum.
You asked a question that could have been easily answered by doing the tutorials. Someone simply asked if you did the tutorial missions and you trashed the game and it's players. Then you can't understand why people aren't helpful or troll you?
Also no offense but with your spelling and grammar I'm guessing English isn't your first language. This makes it harder for people to understand what you're trying to say. People will overlook this but when you add in what looks like a bad attitude you're not going to get much help. |

Eh. I think you just told me to go back to WoW, which is kind of incredible, but ok.
Look, I was pretty darn sure you were asking if you needed to learn certain skills to unlock a second tier of skills and was all set out to type a nice long response. Yes, in fact, you do need to have certain skills to unlock others and be able to plug them in; the skills you need to do so are listed under the prerequisites tab for every skill in the game. If it's empty or green, you can inject the skill. Otherwise, you need to train to the specified level.
But that apparently wasn't what you were asking in the first place. How anyone managed to discern that is beyond me.
Bottom line: I'm actually inclined to be helpful. In fact, most people here are, even if we're prone to bicker amongst ourselves. But you have to help me help you by asking better questions. Just throwing it out there for the future. Glad you got it sorted. |

Agian not engaging feel free to argue with yourself I did not trash the game in any way this mmo is great the reason I love it is for its complexity it seperates the 12 year olds from the adults thats why I took a whole week reading up on it before I even played but some how skimmed this part probably falling asleep on the tutorials which are never fun. End of story stop whining for something I've already apologized for. Feel like I murdered a child or something. |

You seem quite easily offended, but I do feel obligated to tell you your question was hard to understand. I do not however believe it was do to poor english, but more due to confusion over the miss information you had been given.
I am glad you have got it sorted, but thought you might benefit from a simple break down of how the skill system in EVE works.
There are two different levels for skills, which I believe is the source for some of your confusion. There are the basic skills levels which are start at 0 when you inject a skill book and can be trained up to level 5. All that is required to take a skill to level 5 is to have the skill book injected, and spend the time training it, you can que up several skills, and/or several levels of the same skill provided the last skill trained starts in less than 24 hours. For example que shield operation to train to level 2, it can be followed by the same skill again to level 3, then level 4, etc. max level of all skills is 5. As a new player you are far better off training many skills to level 3 or 4 before training any to 5. training from level 4 to level 5 generally takes much longer than training from level 0 to level 4. For example having all shield skills to 4 will give you much better shields than having shield operation to 5 with no other shield skills trained.
The other skill level is referred to as skill rank. This represents how difficult the skill is to train. A rank 3 skill takes longer to train per level than a rank 2 skill. Also a rank 3 skill will require a rank 2 skill trained to a prerequisite level before the skill book can be injected. These prerequisites can be seen by using the show info on the skill book.
Another matter to pay attention too is your attributes. Different skills use different attributes to determine training speed, i.e. how many SP per minute you will gain while training that skill. For example basic skills like engineering, shield operation, capacitor skills, mechanic skills, etc, use a primary attribute of intelligence with a secondary attribute of memory. What this means is by remaping your attributes to maximum intelligence, with remainder points going into memory you will train these skills at the fastest possible speed. However piloting skills use a primary attribute of perception with a secondary attribute of willpower. So if you are remaped for intelligence/memory your training of piloting skills will be much slower. Attributes can be further enhanced by using implants that grant attribute bonuses up to +5. it is up to you to decide if you want balanced attributes to train any skills at a about the same speed, or to remap to either intelligence/memory or perception/willpower and focus on skills supported by those attributes for a while, them remap to the other to focus on those skills. There are many many different strategies for skill training.
The best advice I can give you is not to get to worried about it. when you are just learning skill training times are so short mistakes, or changes in direction do not cost you much. It is when you get to training skills that take 30 days or more that attribute remaps really start to matter. Save your remaps for when you really need them, do not waste them. Once they are gone you only get 1 per year. |

See if you can find the career agents and do their missions. You will get free ships and learn about combat.
Also use the Rookie Help and Help channel in game. Plenty of people will help*) you and you will get a lot of information fast.
*) They will also troll you and hate you and mock you and hurt your feelings in any possible way!
And, Welcome to EVE.
i just quote it from someone else in another thread |
