Ok, I am all for the changes and some of them seem pretty cool and like that we are trying to do something different with them...
but...
I can't wrap my head around the changes for the Iterons...
Yeah they are awesome perks but now everyone knows what you are hauling with them when you fly them correct? No more need to scale the ships cargo I can tell what they are hauling just based on the ship. Which makes it nice for suicide flyers... And I know this game dances the bored between "real" and "game" but how in "real life" would you have a bonus to hauling a certain thing... maybe I am just not seeing that one and that is not a big deal just... ? yeah? |

We have them in real life. Oil tankers, ore transports, and all the other things like them are built to hold one thing. |

In my opinion, the Iteron II, III and IV are just a prime example of CCP being lazy gits and too chicken-**** to do something drastic. They didn't want to leave the homogenization in the line of Iterons or lose the "history" associated with them (because once you get 4 or 5 you would never buy the other versions because of minimal cost difference and sub-par hauling capabilities). This is their lazy attempt at making the II, III and IV "unique" but the simple fact remains that the hulls are redundant and should be pulled from the game if they cannot be given a purpose that a general hauler can't overshadow.

We also have nuclear bombs, PoW camps and rampant disease, should these be added to EVE as well? Most of those vessels in RL are built that way to prevent contamination and disaster or because the company that owns it only deals in one commodity. Fact is those freighters in real life can be easily re-purposed to move other cargo. |

Lolwat. There are no nuclear bombs. I see nothing about disease, not in gameplay mechanics. I'd love to know how you're keeping capsuleers prisoner as well. |

Which other industrial gives me the ability to haul 45,000 m3 of PI materials (67.5k with skills) while giving me 2 high slots, 4 mid slots, 4 low slots and 3 rig slots that I can do anything I want with?
Fit 4 warp stabs, a MWD and a cloak for the cloak trick, some shield mods/rigs to add tank (yeah gallente is armor tank, but warp stabs can't go in mid slots) and for about 10 million isk you have an almost unbeatable low-sec PI runner. Only a 100mil or so isk blockade runner would perform better, and wouldn't be able to carry as much.
The specialized hulls are great for any situation where you wish you had more slots on an industrial, but couldn't because you needed cargo expanders/rigs to get even semi-decent hauling capacity.
Hell all of the specialized hulls will let you haul more (of a specific commodity) than a general hauler can for just the cost of the hull. Even without skills they all carry 40k or more of their commodity, the highest potential cargo general hauler will be the Bestower, carrying 39201m3 (numbers direct from CCP Rise's post, this number however uses T1 cargo expanding rigs, not T2, presumably because they cost about 40 mil ISK each) with full racks of T2 cargo expanders and T1 rigs, and maxxed skills. |

You got me there, I didn't take into account the base cargo capacity for the specialized hulls. |

There is nothing preventing you from filling an oil tanker with ore other than it would seem rather absurd to do so.
I guess, technically, what would make sense is to have the various holds optimized to hold a certain type of cargo.
So, if it is optimized to hold 50,000 m3 of ore, it can only hold 10,000 m3 of any other cargo. Not very realistic, but I guess it makes sense in terms of balancing the ships for the game. Otherwise, barges and exhumers would make pretty good cargo haulers. Gate campers are just Carebears with anger issues. |
