But all that being said... if we were to head down the 'what if' road, I would say that it is probably possible to design a game (or alter Eve-Online in such a way) that appeals to both aspects of gaming. When I first heard about the new Carriers coming out in the next expansion installment I had a daydream that the fighters on-board could be joystick/cockpit controlled while the larger ships would still require the larger tactical interface to run them. I haven't thought out all of the implications this would bring... but it was fun to muse on it.
That might be cool, but it also contradicts the RPG aspects of Eve. I feel like if someone wants to play an MMO flight sim, they should look somewhere else. And unfortunately, it would be nigh-impossible for Eve's servers to accomadate both styles of gameplay without a massive overhaul or replacement (see my last post) effectively...

If you were in first person, you would be looking at liquid and neural wiring. This provided you had some kind of light inside the capsule

You guys so vehemently opposed to a first person perspective do sound a bit ridiculous. For you, nothing would change as it would most certainly be optional. For those who want it, it would significantly increase the joy they get out of their eve experience. And it would most certainly be easy to code, simply a new fixed camera position at the bow of the ship. It would have no impact on gameplay whatsoever, in combat it would most likely even be disadvantageous to use, but it would increase the level of immersiveness for what seems to be a lot of people. So why not do it? I am definitely against any kind of sim combat as that goes against the very nature of eves ships (even frigs are capital ships by other space games standards and thus the tactical combat makes sense) but a view out of the ship, looking in the direction where you are flying would be a nice treat for old spacers, and probably would easy the transition for new people coming from other games as well (I know it would have made mine a lot smoother).

The problem is, that if it were put in, we'd then have ten times as many people on the forums complaining that it was useless and that they can't fly their ship properly while in it.
Oh, and for the zillionth time: A first-person view (as you ask for it) would NOT be immersive.

Ok, I will try to respond most of you. But from what I've read, a lot of you don't read the entire thread or are just plain rude and ill mannered.
MWEI: I am not exactly a child (as you imply in your post). The clue, had you read the whole thread, would be when I stated I grew up playing Elite (so I was a child of the 80's, obviously). How would it be ruining the game just by providing a choice of a 1st person perspective? And may I also add you have it completely wrong, I am the opposite of the CS type of person. I actually like role-playing and part of my argument is to have a 1st person perspective to make it more emmersive!!
Andrue: You can be sarcastic all you want, but the fact of the matter is, look at your spaceship. Zoom in. See the windows?
Tarminc: Completely wrong. I used to play a World War 2 fighter plane sim called Aces High. Joystick inputs had no effect on lag. Also, something you'll never experience is: shooting down someone using skill (and some of them are actual pilots). Real buzz. Granted, no atmosphere in space, so no immelman, hammerhead or barrel roll, but play Elite or X3 and it can still be fun in space.
Katchoo: You figured location correct...yes. Why...is there any lag? I've never experienced any. As for your "work". I see 5 day old players poncing about in destroyers or worse. After 5 days I've made 250,000 Isk and have a modest Probe. Every single Isk was earnt through trading. Is that what you mean by "work"? I doubt though that you'd get a destroyer after 5 days of "work" somehow...
Tarminic: Why would flying a ship with a joystick detract from the RPG element? That's totally not true...
...and to everyone else, I don't buy that about "seeing" only wires and gunk if you could see in the 1st person. There's a camera drone which he sees through, yes? take the camera drone and stick it on the pod with a harness. Oh look! He can see where he's going! Also, pod!? Why not just make a capsule inside the cokcpit and if something went wrong they'd all eject...crew and all? And...why would a crew listen to a man inside an egg? What will he do if they don't obey orders? Fling an omellete at them?

So to the op .
Lets get this straight .
You have been playing for 5 days and you dont like the way it is set up.
This Game has been running along quite happily(except patch days) for over 2 years.
You want changes cos its easier for you to understand.
You come up with an idea that "has never been thought of before."
Guess what . - If you believe thats Eve is a space simulator - then leave.
You dont like the game style cos it isnt what you want - then leave.
Whats the opposite of "now stay" - then leave
5 days on and you have not even scratched the surface of this game. so your opinions with respect are worthless. You "are" new to the game . You dont understand the game - by definition of being new.
You can either a ) Leave - lets face it you have your own set game standards which evidently Eve doesnt adhere to.
b) Leave - see reasons above.

Well you have a minimal crew on the ship, if any. If they don't obey, you can simply eject and fly to another spot. Set the airlock for oh... 5 minutes? The goal of the pod is to be omnipresent; crew are expendable and I doubt little more than a luxury at this point.
As far as cams go, yes you can place a stationary cam on the front of your ship, but if the entity in the pod isn't moving the ship I imagine it gets boring for the routine "first person" crowd real quick.
I don't think the routine mindset of first person mechanics apply here. I wouldn't leave if it were put in of course, but at the same time would feel it's seriously out of place. The "quick fix" expectation simply wouldn't be fulfilled. -----------------------------------

Yes, obviously alcohol is important to you, judging by your post.
Let me get this straight.
First of all, don't take it so personal.
Second of all, you're wrong on all accounts.
Third of all, all I was asking for is a way to feel like I'm flying the ship, if that means sticking a camera on the fron of the ship rather than behind, I'd go for that.
Fourth of all, if this isn;t a space sim, it sure looks like it. Sorry, I thought I was in a ship, not riding a horse. Have I accidently stumbled on a swords and sorcerer type game...and didn't realise it?
Fifthly, I didn;t say I had no intention of leaving.
Sixthly, you are welcome not to comment in a thread.
Seventhly, yeah go ahead, get yourself arsfaced, maybe you'll think you're someone else for a few hours (that's a good thing).

With the greatest respect bud let me go through your ideals of the game ..
I actualy quoted 5 days -- I was wrong - you STATED 5 Minutes.
You cant understand why there is no first person view - after 5 minutes. ( your words not mine )
You played elite and by your own words "expecting an updated of version of it. - elite was a space sim -( I played it on tape and 5 1/4 inc floppy - on a BBC B . I have the badge proving I was elite when the initial competition was released. (Actually I still have the machine and original disks n tapes)) before all the ports to other machines) - yes meaningless drivel but proving a point as to my age ... sigh .
I still stand by my statement as to you not even scratching the surface of the game.
And again I still stand by the statement as to "If you dont like it then leave" - Its your choice.
As to be wrong "on all accounts" - I accept your apology now . As to taking it personally . Sorry but your opinions mean diddly squat . I simply pointed out your alternatives.
And again with respect . If you so feel like attacking me personally to get your opinion across then go ahead . I pity you.
Al Thorr.

Those of you saying the interface is perfect are off base. I know I can't be the only one being driven crazy by constantly having to zoom out away from my ship every time I undock or zone. There really should be a way to lock the camera view and to make the camera follow the ship's direction so you don't have to constantly fiddle with it. At least a first person view would address those issues.

No...YOUR opinions mean didley squat. You don't represent the company who runs this game. I, as a possible consumer of this product, have a say as much as anyone else. And I will say what I please on a PUBLIC forum.
You haven't read the thread in it's entirety. Either that or you're alrady drunk. Every single thing you said in your first post was wrong.
And don't call me bud...speaking of which, you probably had too many "Buds" (which in your case is probably a glass).
Now...where is the ignore feature...

I too wondered why there was no first person perspective after 5 minutes of gameplay. Now after roughly 4 months, I still wonder why it is not there. I have gotten used to the way it works, but I still miss the first person. Yes it would be rather useless when considering functionality. It would merely be eye candy. Usually I hate useless eye candy, but in this case I make an exception because adding a camera lock must be something even I could code with a few instructions. I am currently traveling out of Jita and I am pretty sure that a flyby on a freighter would feel much better with a first person view. At least for me. That is what immersion means to me. It is not a neccessity, just a luxury. But an easy one to provide.

Bah...you know what? I'm asking myself...why bother. So many games out there, so little time.

It's bad for you fan-boys in the long run if less people join. So continue being obnoxious, rude figli di puttana.
Don't bother replying...I wont read it.

Actually, most of them are probably happy you're gone. Fewer people on the server means better server performance for them, and even with you gone, there are way more people playing and staying than there used to be.

First person would be a interesting addition, and devs have mentioned the possiblity for fighters, however they also said it wouldnt change anything other than the looks.
1- 1st person dosnt follow the story line 2- It would make fighting more difficult 3- It requires a lot of extra modeling if you were to have interior view of every ship, the same time could be spent on much more worthy tasks like reducing lag or adding more useful material.
im not saying its a bad idea, it just its not practical. Would be a wonderful addition but anything could become a wonderful addition, but look at other games, people wanted all sort of "wonderful additions", and their devs listened, they wasted their time on those "wonderful additions" and now we have WoW, Planetside, E&B, etc.

Sigh.
So am I not entitled to voice my opinion?
According to your rules ... NO.
Again I pity you.
So what you are saying is that you are allowed to post you opinion as to the game mechanincs on a public forum, and other people must listen and not express their own opinion ? Even if it disagrees with your initial point / post ?
And anyone that does disagree by giving you alternatives to playing eve ,therefore must be attacked by some very sad personal vendetta evident by your continual assuption that I have been abusing alcohol and thus, cannot be expected to understand what you would like to see. after your 5 days of playtime.
It is a shame that your , now obvious flaws in personal communication have lead you to you current behaviour. but again, as with my pity comes my forgiveness. - Not that it will mean much to you . as you evidently are not in a position to be able to understand some one elses forgiveness

People should continue to provide feedback and ideas to developers and also discuss game mechanics within the eve-online community. Hopefully new players realize that a public discussion forum is rarely the greatest place to provide direct suggestions to developers. Discuss it here and post it to a dev moderated area too. Lots of other gamers may have your point of view and may not be posting ideas directly for others to see.
When we no longer have posts and suggestions from new and old players it means the game will stop evolving and die out. The fact that there are so many different assenting and dissenting viewpoints just on*****pit vrs no*****pit view is great. I began gaming when the only MMOG's were text based MUD's. I have seen communities lose interest in games and watched message boards dry up until all that was left were trollers and flamers.
