As mentioned in the 1165 bug sticky myself and at least one other person are experiencing the same with audigy cards. Guess it may just be a problem with creative cards in general. Also happens for me on the hull repairer sound too.

make sure you have the latest drivers for the card

The SBLive! 5.1 is the latest driver.. SoundBlaster is so with it that they ship their product with the latest driver. There IS no other driver..
So lets see... EVE has problems with GeForce videa cards and SoundBlaster sound cards.. hmm.

Actually I highly doubt you have the latest drivers for the card, they dont ship with the latest versions. When the card sits in creatives warehouse then sits in the computer stores wherehouse then sits on the shelf, they have already made 3 patches since then. Well I cant say that for sure but hey I bet you dont have the latest drivers as they made a driver set in the 6.14 version, and thats not the whole version mind you. I would suggest taking a look at their site that is unless you want CCP to tell you to do it first

As I said on my original post on this problem in the sticky bug list I do have the latest drivers for my card and also for every other piece of hardware in my system. I usually check for drivers for everything every few weeks and follow news websites where driver releases for hardware are posted. I also have every update for windows/directx and all BIOS's for my hardware are current too. Guess I should have mentioned it in this thread too

Yep - same problem. Not just SB Live either - it happens on another machine using the Nforce2 chipset so it's not a driver problem. It does work occasionally - seems to be distance-related. ie if you're at just the right range from the gate then you hear it.
Not a big problem anyway - in comparison with some of the others....

Actually.. I've called SoundBlaster and they assure me I have the latest driver for my sound card.. You don't believe me, you can call them yourself.
Perhaps your just confusing the latest software package to a driver update. That "SndDrvPack" thing is just a bunch of useless software addons.. That's why I called Creative to check, because installing that did not update my drivers.

I second the nforce2 Soundstorm onboard sound problem... also here. A problem with sound channels randomly cutting out.

I posted on the sticky as well, same thing with Audigy Gamer card. And yes, latest drivers. ==========

I'm getting very limited sounds with my SB Live! Other than the autopilot's message, lock warnings, service interface sounds (ie: market, factory) and the wooshing through warp, nada. No explosions from missiles, no guns from myself or attackers...
It's extremely eerie to play like this. Almost to the point of discomfort.

I have the same issue. I think it has to do with spacial sounds. The onboard sound let's me hear missiles/guns and gates. When I got the new SB live because I heard onboard sound was the cause of CTD I noticed the sound issues but figured the devs have other things to worry about. If you swing your camera around to be inside a gate you can hear it go. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Its not limited to the Creative cards.
I have an Avance PCI Sound Card. The gates sound is cutting out most the time. Didn't happen before patch. It ain't over till the fat lady falls on ya!

Just chiming in, I have the same problem with the jump gate sound cutting off, and I'm using a Hercules Game Theater XP.

I have this same problem too, with Soundblaster Live 5.1 and latest drivers. Didn't have a problem before this patch.

Ditto - nForce2 sound system here, latest drivers directly from Nvidia... sounds being clipped or not even playing at all anymore. I posted on the sticky thread as well...

I like this bug personally. The warp sounds are WAY too loud anyway. I always have to tell my buddies on Teamspeak to "Say that again, I was in warp". Can we turn that down some or at least give us an option to turn it down? It's really annoying.

And to add my 2 pence as well, I also noticed this with my nForce2 (MCP-T).
Given the *only* software that has changed is the client version of EVE, and the fact that some sound fixes are mentioned in the patch notes, I would say this points quite strongly towards the patch.
If the sound plays fine if you are very close to the gate, this might imply a distance based volume modifier has been added, except it's either not been coded properly for sounds of that pitch/bug with the modifier for that pitch.

Edited by: Avaton White on 16/08/2003 13:07:33 I have three computers that all display this problem. One has built in sound (CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device, latest drivers), one has an old SB Live! X-Gamer, latest drivers, and the last one is an Audigy, latest drivers. They all have problems with sounds cutting out here and there. I also have the DirectX 9b on all of them as well as all Windows 2000 updates and all of my other drivers are the absolute latest version (unless they released something within the last hour hehe). I've only had the problem since patch 1165. ------------------------------------------------ "The best defense is a dead opponent." - Avaton White
