EVR is an exciting 3D space fighter game that may become part of the Eve universe. It would use the Oculus Rift. Click here for the trailer by CCP.
It should fend off competition from another exciting space fighter game called Star Citizen. Click here to watch a video showing 15 reasons to be interested in Star Citizen.
However, there is a problem with EVR: the fighters would be like those used by carriers. Why would it be worth someone's time to fly a fighter when our Eve spaceships are larger and more powerful?
What would the (ISK) incentive be to fly an EVR fighter
How would these fighters fit into the Eve universe |

It would fit, but first they have to find a place for Dust514 in Eve. |

Direct integration isn't possible. TQ doesn't tick fast enough.
But into the Universe? no problem at all.
Easiest way to do it is: The players fly for NPC carriers, for the various factions. As part of FW perhaps. With the addition of pirate hunting, etc. Steve Ronuken for CSM 9!-á I'm starting early :) Handy tools and an SDE conversion Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |

How do you know that TQ doesn't tick fast enough?
Computer speeds are increasing at an exponential rate - surely TQ should be fast enough soon? |

I doubt VR in EVE will be interesting: game is so dark I don't see anything but celestial bodies and stations + laser beams. |

Perhaps the fighter cockpit could do with a 'heads up' display that shows where objects are
In addition, the cockpit could have a 'holographic display' that shows a 3D representation of your immediate surroundings |

Because the devs told us, and because performance improvements won't really come from faster hardware at this point but from parallelisation. Increasing the actual tick would just be a waste of cycles. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

The popularity of Star Citizen could mean that Eve's 'round hole' has to be made into a square hole before Star Citizen roughly forces that square peg in. |

I'd be honestly surprised if the guy can deliver on HALF of what he has promised. And even then, I still question whether it will be balanced properly (so far, the promises made seem to be all over the place... ex: "it'll be a sandbox game, but there will be instancing and controls!")
As for the main point of the OP... no. EVE "ticks" (see: updates and processes any new [series of] command[s] every 1 second). This is what allows EVE to scale up to 500+ man brawls and not be "instanced" like other games.
A flight simulator or FPS requires "tick" speed somewhere in the range of 0.1 or less... because every slight twitch you make can decide your survival. This is why most FPS games limit games to 2x 32 man teams.
That said... I can see EVR being attached to or added into DUST. Their pace and gamestyle is similar. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Based on how DUST was handled it would probably not be fully "integrated" at all. Essentially separating the dog-fighting from the actual world of EVE and only connecting them thought the economy.
even if the TQ sever could handle some integrated VR dog-fighting gameplay, it really wouldn't fit into what EVE currently is. a game based almost entirely around strategy and knowledge and effective sue of resources.
Although, perhaps CCP would actually be forced to make a drone UI if it meant that other humans would be on the other side of its commands. |

By the way, I'm not plugging Star Citizen - even if it lives up to all its promises, it will become fantastically boring and repetitive after the single player missions. This is because the universe they are making is bland.
However, I do think that the space simulation aspect is worth copying. |

Contrary to what you believe, I've read that CCP intends to integrate Eve and DUST far more - they are taking their time because:
CCP don't want to move too fast and destabilise Eve Online - it's their main bread winner. In DUST, the development focus isn't only on integration - CCP are developing other aspects as well, so things take time. |
