What is the fastest Ice can be harvested now?
What skills, equipment & implants do I need to achieve this. I understand leadership skills could play a big part as I might need fleet bonuses to achieve the maximum bonus.
Thanks for any help you can give. |

The max implant for the miner can reduce cycle time by 5%. The max ice harvester upgrade can reduce cycle time by 9%. The max gang link also reduces cycle time. There is a bonus to cycle time for Skiffs and Procurers. There is an additional bonus to the Skiff for exhumer skill.
T2 ice miner on a skiff with 2x t2 ice harvester upgrades and the implant should be:
250s [T2 Ice harvester cycle time] * 1/3 [skiff bonus] * .95 [implant] * .91 [one ice harvest upgrade] * .95 [Exhumer V] = 68 seconds. Add a second IHU and max boost and you should get under 60s. |

I dont think this guy knows how exhumers work.
A Hulk with max skills, 3 T2 ice harvesters, 2 T2 ice harvester upgrades, a medium ice harvesting accelerator, a yeti +5% implant and a maxed out rorqual bonus gets almost exactly 3 ice blocks every minute (2.998) |

Yes, I forgot about the rig, that one cuts 12% off the cycle time.
In highsec, the last half of an ice anomaly becomes a race with the other players. When the anomaly spawns, there might be 1-2 players mining in the first 5 minutes. About 30 minutes after the anomaly spawns, there are 20-40 mining barges present. If your cycle time is 3 minutes, the chances are good that the asteroid will disappear before you reach the end of your harvester cycle causing you to waste that time. Based on Dastardly's question, my presumption was that he was encountering this race. |

There is something to be said about mining speed vs mining yield. Yes the HULK is the fastest as far as max yield per minute or hour goes.
But the skiff has the fastest cycle times. at complete base yield before any skill, module, fleet boost, or implant bonuses a skiff with its single harvester mines the same yield as a HULK with 3 harvesters. base yield the skiff gets a 200% yield bonus making 1 ICE harvester equal to 3.
Now once you add additional bonuses and completely max out the ship, the HULK can mine considerably more blocks per hour than the skiff. However if you are mining in a busy system where many ships are targeting the same ICE rocks, the HULK with its slow cycles can lose a lot of yield as others will deplete the rock before your cycle finishes. But a Skiff has a much faster cycle speed, allowing you to complete cycles before the rock depletes. In such a situation a skiff may out perform a HULK due to it cycling almost 3 times to every single cycle of the HULK. as the rocks are depleting you have a higher chance of getting ice with a skiff due to the quick cycles.
Allow me to illustrate. You are in a high sec ICE anomaly. You are in a HULK. The belt is nearly empty. You target a rock that has 6 blocks left, nobody else is targeting it, you activate your 3 harvesters on it. within 5-10 seconds a Skiff targets the same rock and starts harvesting. Due to the skiffs fastest cycle times it will complete two cycles pulling 4 blocks before your HULK completes its first cycle to pull 6 blocks. When your cycle completes you only get 2 blocks as the skiff ninja'd the other 4.
Now this specific senario is very unlikely, but you should be able to see that in a depleting belt, with competition for the same ice blocks, a Skiff will not take long to make up the difference in yield due to its faster cycle times.I have not done the math on the new yields, but I believe a maxed out HULK can now pull in about 150 blocks per hour, while a Skiff can pull about 130 Blocks per hour. When competing for rocks, is is not hard for a HULK to lose 20 blocks in an hour due to other targeting the same rocks. The Skiff may pull in far less per cycle, but completes 2.5 cycles in the same time as the HULK takes for one cycle. Good for mopping uo those small rocks quickly, and making sure you do not waste cycles. |
