So here I am bored on my phone thinking what to do. Ahhhh I know. Type in Google ( The most expensive ship lost in eve online).
Then I see the revenant ship lost -> The loss of the ship is estimated to be somewhere between 280B and 330B ISK, which equates to around $8,000+ in US dollars.
hollemac I say!!!
What the hell???
Seriously tell me what is the point to own such a rare ship And bring it to battle, which you risk loosing it???
If I owned that ship I would take it out once a month to look at it and say wow Then store it! Just to say hey look what I have haha. However to lose it in battle. I would lose months of sleep and maybe retire eve all together.
I really wonder how this guy feels at this point? And is he still playing eve online?

While I have nowhere near the experience and am not remotely near the same class of player that would own such a ship, I can assure you that his corp and/or alliance members paid for most of it. That kind of a ship is more "a shared asset" in which case the loss of which would be significantly less painful than if it was solely paid for by a single person. And even if it was, the income generated by such a player is probably roughly the same ratio as a newer player saving up for a freighter.

Difference here is:
1) He didn't pay real money for it - he paid space pixel money for a space pixel ship. 2) The EVE ship has no collectors value on a broad market, nor any way to convert it back to real $$. 3) Just because you can *spend* that much real money on a ship does not make it *worth* that much.

This is what happens when people never leave highsec, they spout out information that was correct 7 years ago. Titans are owned by single players these days & are not a shared asset. The guy who was sitting next to me in the first nullsec round table who had obviously not had a shower since before boarding his flight to Iceland, you really stank. You know who you are. |

http://themittani.com/news/ten-pl-supercarriers-ambushed-revenant-down
tl;dr
- The FC got bored/tired/disenfranchised with the alliance he was with, set up a trap with the enemy, and sent his fleet into the trap.
- The Revenant pilot was expecting the operation to be a simple and clean gank... no threat was supposed to be present.
- The Revenant pilot took the whole thing VERY well relative to corp/alliance manager/director who found out what had happened (the guy screaming in the audio is the manager/director).
- The Revenant pilot shall now live on forever in EVE history as the "first guy to lose a Revenant." He will forever be given kudos for being ballsy enough to bring it out (even though the op he was bringing it out on was supposed to be nothing more than a gank). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

I understand its an excellent ship for battles but again only 2 exist now only 1 because of that loss. So tell me why thier isn't more that exists to be used in battle if they are so great?
I'll tell you why. Cause they are rare which means its a collectors item/ship.
Just like owning a collections of cars that are rare. You don't use it to go into work and back And risk damaging it or crashing where its worth nothing after that.
Yes it's a game but in reality a lot of ppl spend really money and time to afford ships And modules that go with it. That means calling in sickfrom work. Your girlfriend going to bed alone And you missing out on sex the get that isk just to lose it in 20min.
Not worth it to me in my opinion! |

Actually, bringing it out for 'only' a gank shows fairly restrained and reasonably cautious thinking on his part. He didn't risk his ship in a major action where the odds of being taken down would be fairly high - He went on an supposed ambush led by a known and respected FC. Based on every bit of information available to him, the risk was minimal. He had no way of knowing he was flying into a well-laid trap.
But that's EVE.

To be fair, Dray Cil was likely referring to ship replacement programs and Mallak is a Goon, which is also his excuse. Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling. |

Oh, give over. Everyone knows that ships are identified with a single account, but it's just as obvious that many people can contribute to the construction of a ship, thus have a vested interst in its use and fate. |
