First thing I've done now that RMR has been deployed is try a level 2 mission with a Thorax. I bought 5 hammerheads (figured 2 ogres wouldn't cut it) and accepted a mission. Eager to try my luck, I undocked...
Mission was called "Illegal Goods", a mission consisting out of 3 parts apparently. Had to inspect some sort of roid field with suspected pirates. Never saw this one before, figured it was a new mission.
First thing I've noticed was no jump gate, while the mission said it was a deadspace mission. I had to warp in and wait for hostiles to spawn. So I did, waited a while, and some gallente navy issues spawned. Atrons, Delta Support Frigates, a Navy Officer, Navy Soldiers and Gallente Miners. Preparing for an attack, I lock the 2 Support frigates and 2 Soldiers, and launch my 5 hammerheads.
The Delta Support Frigates jump from 14km to 1500m and warpscramble me. Ouch, hadn't expected their speed! I let the 5 hammerheads engage one of them, and fire my close range railguns on the other.
What surprised me the most was the fact that the hammerheads hardly did any damage. When I finally killed the one scrambling me, I was in structure already. Tried keeping up with the damage by repping armor with a small 'accommodation' mod, with a 17.5% cap recharger on board. But I couldn't get away, and just as I started to warp out, big badda boom.
Picked up a spare thorax from my hangar, though this one's setup wasn't as good as the previous one, I invested a lot of cash in the other one's setup, this one got left behind a bit...
Warped in, stopped out of warp in another position in this "deadspace". Got aggroed by the 3 navy atrons and the navy officer. I turned on my AB, and orbitted them at 37km, turned off the AB and started shooting at the officer with my 250mm 'scouts' using iridium, and released two "old" ogres from my bay and set them up to engage. I got the shields down on the officer, but not long after I was in structure yet again. They kicked my hiney from that distance.
Aaaaaanyway...
Long story short (must seem like an awefull lot of whining so far :D), I'm a 3 months old player, I just completed learning all my basic learning skills to 5, have some skills in combat with skills in railguns mainly, but always managed to do fine in level 2 missions. I heavily relied on drones during this time. It saved me ammo, and they did a nice piece of damage.
Observations so far: The whole "deadspace, but not quite a deadspace" thingy has me confused. It's not an encounter, but it's not a spot with a jumpgate either. I suppose it's more of an "encounter" type mission, but without the "warp to location within xx km". I wonder if it's worth asking if it would be possible to alter that, allowing someone to chose what distance to jump in?
Five hammerheads, or two ogres setup: didn't seem to matter much, it felt as if they hardly managed to hit anything. I definately didn't have the idea that they were hitting harder than they did pre-RMR? I have the interface skill to 3, to allow me 8 drones on the 'rax pre-RMR, so I have 60% damage increase now I think, plus the alterations CCP made to drones. I have no idea yet how this compares to having 8 heavy drones in the past though. I'm definately hurting from the 200m3 > 50m3 bay change.
Lastly, my guns seemed to miss more than they did in the past. I ran away from the mission eventually like a little girly man screaming , cancelled it and picked up my other 'rax's lootcan. Now I'm sitting in my agent's station, affraid to try another mission. Brrr.
I was looking forward to training towards BS skills and try level 3's after all this annoying 'learning skill' training , but this really made me wonder if I shouldn't dock my character in a station training close range gun skills for a year first, heh.
Only a slight whine, I was hoping for a better first day in RMR
