I've seen that term thrown about in certain books and chronicles, and as the title of a game expansion, and in official CCP trailers. yet most players seem to just say "Capsuleer".
in what capacity is the term "Empyrean" meant to be used?
Is this the "official" term for Capsuleer? a past idea for an official term that hasn't caught on?
or is it just what "regular" folk call Capsuleers? like, is it slang somewhat, like "Egger"?
suggestions? |

I've been wondering the same thing. I've seen some players referring to themselves and others as Empyreans as well. Could use some explanations and maybe a brief history on origins of the term. |

Seems to me it means a Capsuleer who has deserted the Empries that made them to carve out their own slice of the universe as their own, hence Empyrean.

Empyreans are the immortals, the cloned, the undying. Posthumanity, transhumanity, infomorphs, whatever you want to call them, capsuleers and DUST clones are both Empyreans.
They are wealthy, they are powerful. their reach is interstellar, they outclass the unaugmented bulk of humanity by a staggering degree, and they represent an unprecedented power-shift in the politics of New Eden.
Basically, it's a catch-all term for anybody who treats death as a financial inconvenience. An in-character blog and a video: http://verinsjournal.blogspot.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu1mbsgo738

You should have a look at the following link as it describes the Empyrean --

It's a reference to the poem "Paradiso", the final part of "Dante's Divine Comedy", where the titular narrator explores Heaven. Empyrean is the the realm where God resides, according to and at the very end of the poem, beyond the realm of physical existence and beyond the Ninth Sphere of Heaven - Primum Mobile.
The context of the usage is essentially saying that the Empyreans are living (or trespassing) in the realm of God.
Keep note that it was the Amarr who coined the term ingame, and they are extremely distant descendants of the fictional "Unified Catholic Church". Ch+½j+ì Katrina Oniseki ~ (RDC) Chief Operations Officer ~ [I-RED] Sub-Director of Public Relations |

So, basically, as I understand it, Empyreans are all of the eggers and dusters that are player-controlled characters, speaking by out-of-game terms, correct? |

Not just the player-controlled, but all, I think. Be them npc or not. Remember, according to CCP, there are much more capsuleers than just the player controlled ones. |

I am glad that the term is being used as it is throughout the IP. 'Capsuleer' always felt like a really awkward term for something that is such a force of nature in this universe. + Cardinal Graelyn + Owner/Operator, "The Summit" Amarr Loyalist of the Year --áYC113 |
