Hi,
Just come back to the game after having not played since like Inca.
Can anyone give me an idea of the current metagame in low sec?
When I left, the FW low sec areas where full of gangs of shield BC gangs or solo frig pilots , small gangs of frigs.
Are Minmatar still the dominant race for small ships? What am I mostly likely to encounter roaming around the FW areas?
I used to love running around in a shield rupture and kiting frig gangs, is my little beast still viable? (please tell me it is :<)
Thanks,
Xuthi

Hrmm. frigate combat largely comes down to who has the most midslots, so hookbills are king.
There are still frigs and dessies everywhere.
BC gangs have generally been replaced by cruiser gangs.
Minmatar are pretty weak right now for frigates after tiericide - caldari and gallente have the strongest frigate lineup. Amarr generally don't have the midslots to compete, and minmatar are just meh for frigates.
On the dessie side, all the races dessies are good.
As far as kiting frig gangs in a rupture... ruptures are kinda slow now, and frigates are a LOT more powerful than they used to be.
If you've been out of game, look at all the frigates and dessies and cruisers as if you were new to the game - fittings/slots/bonuses have been radcially changed. |

A lot of rebalancing has been done (including every t1 hull), so a lot more ships are viable than they once were. One of the very few ships that didn't survive the rebalance intact is the Rifter - it stayed the same while everything else got way better, and now it's just very meh.
Amarr frigates aren't bad - I disagree with the assertion that dominant ships rely on having a million midslots. The Punisher is great in a gang, it's just solo where it suffers. The Tormentor is a good solo ship, though.
Regarding kitey rupture: Every race now has a fast cruiser and a "slow" cruiser. The Rupture is in an amusing place though because it's almost as fast as the fast cruisers while being tougher and gankier. The fit still works - you just may have to finish the job up close. |

Minmatar are still REALLY GOOD. They have been displaced on the frigate level, but who really cares. The only ships pilots really NEED to be able to fly are tech 1 battle-cruisers, cruisers and destroyers. You can ignore everything else and you'd be fine.
Thrasher, Talwar
Bellicose, Stabber Fleet Issue, Scythe Fleet Issue
Cyclone, Tornado
All you need and you're good. When I get back to game I'll be writing off frigates completely for destroyers. I had planned to do so right after the Talwar was introduced and before that, but decided to Harpy and Hawk a lot. I'll finish off the rest of my time in game flying cruisers all day before I quit Eve online all together.
Minmatar and Caldari have the best ships overall ATM. Td's are overpowered and so are put on what seems like all Caldari ships as well as some Minmatar ones. Damps have made using logistics lame too (Ecm, DAmp Blackbird...).
Oh! Amarr drone ships are p powerful. Not sure there's any point in flying Caldari when Minmatar do as much missile as Caldari and Im not sure there's much point in flying Gallente when Amarr do drones as well if not better v0v - Killz

Excellent info guys thanks for that.
Frigate pvp never really interested me all that much so that doesnt really bother me, nice to see they gave the stabber a boost though!
Good to see they made more ships viable though, got kind of old seein everyone flying the same stuff. |

Since I never expressly stated that I'm not sure what you're on about. There's a lot of overlap and I can honestly make a serious comparison having used all these ships solo and in fleets. Well! Not the Armageddon.
I'm fairly sure I was referring to the ridiculous level of overlap. So much so there can be a case made that a racial weapon system is better utilized by another race.
Anyway. AMARR DRONE SHIPS ARE WAY BETTER THAN GALLENTE DRONE SHIPS.
You may now repost your nonsense as a retort for what is now expressly stated... - Killz

Hookbill needs buffing imo - needs more speed, tank, pg, cpu, a 6th mid, 2 more lows and 3 more highs and it's bonuses doubled.
Once that happens I'll know CCP love me.
