So from what everyone said they would need customized hardware and software programmed in a custom built programming language, and to recode everything? And even then they could still run into synchronization issues?
There are two different issue fot the devs to deal with. One is the fact that they already have a lot of code in the system, some of it not very efficient nor fully understood even by the original coder.
Any changes to running code will have to be done with some care, to make sure that no unexpected software behaviour occurs.
The other issue is that not all problems lends them self to parallelisation even when well written and understood.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
It's not going to be easy, and it's not going to happen from one patch to the next.
But I think that there's lots of more magic that can, and will, be created by the devs ;) CCP Eterne: Silly player, ALL devs are evil. CCP Fozzie: When Veritas describes a programming challenge as "very hard" I tend to believe him.

It just doesn't work that way. In other words, 2 hamsters do have diminishing returns! |

Gievn the magnitude of what was happening, it handles 4k players just a few days ago with flying colors. So we're already 1/5 of the way there....I don't think it'd be unreasonable to expect the number to rise even higher as technology improves and they refine their code. thhief ghabmoef |

I wouldn't say it handled it with flying colours, yes it didn't crash or lag but TiDi was at max for the whole battle turning the whole fight in to something resembling a slide show.
The battles will always get bigger, I remember battles of a few hundred begin considered 'huge' but the big problem is that every time CCP push the server to handle a bigger battle the player base jump in for an even bigger battle. |

Have CCP ever had any thoughts about using numascale to unify the memory numascale explanation -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVHLFhhwgZcNice if CCP answered this, i'm curious if it would make a difference. more interested in knowing if the Infiniband project they talked about a few years ago is still up...
