Hello Science And Industry Forums, forgive me if this has been asked before but I don't have that much time to go trawling through the forums.Anyway onto the question!
I know that you can upgrade links and it increases the capacity of them per hour and increases CPU+PG consumption of the links but I want to be able to move large quantities of materials and not have to wait a long time via expedited transfer.I know I can route and stuff but sometimes I buy the raw materials and import them down there only to wait 8 hours for the next transfer from launchpad-Storage facility.
So The scenario would be like/the question really
I want to move 10,000 M3 of Material from a launchpad to a storage facility.According to the new ISK Guide a Fast Link[Level Five] has 40,000 M3 an hour.So say this link is upgraded to that level and I do an expedited transfer.Would I still have to wait the eight hours for the next available transfer or will it be reduced in some shape or form?If this is not the case then I'l just have to stick launchpads everywhere instead of storage facilities.
Thanks for your time! This Is A Signiture,It Does stuff |

You're on the right track. Upgrading the link will reduce the expedited transfer wait time. Bear in mind that if the transfer has to pass over more than one link they all must be upgraded. |

I had similar thing with my factory planet, links from pad to the nextdoor silos were upgraded couple times so it wasnt much wait time. Also consider 2 launchpads instead pad+silo, if you can spare the cpu, made managing my factory much easier. It was just 2 pads and 18 factories processing electrolytes and water into coolant. Each pad fed and received from 9 factories.
Or if you make P4 stuff where you need 3 different materials i had pad and 3 silos, so i moved in triangle: all the stuff to 1st silo, then to from 1st to 2nd and then 2nd to 3rd, each time leaving some of the stuff behind in the correct silo. The expedited transfer timer was sender specific so the timer started always on the silo i left behind. That way i could do 3 transfers with just 1 timer. |

I use 2 launchpads and 1 silo to service 2 Basic, 12 Advanced and 1 Hi-tech factory. As suggested, routing in a triangle moves imported Tier 1 product through Tiers 2-4 and back to the launchpads. Basic factories are for processing the 1 raw material I also extract on my factory planet.
Five planets is adequate, and 5 planets with Command Center Upgrades trained to level 5 is even better. But I am still investing the time to train Planetary Integration to level 5. Want to investigate the possibility of producing Tier 4 and Tier 3 products with 5 extraction planets. If that doesn't work, a fifth extraction planet can be used to balance amount of Tier 1 supplied to factory plane and keep the operation running smoothly. |

Multiple Lauchpads makes things allot easier, especially if you have a POCO with 0 tax(happens when you own them :P) you can Export and Import to the correct pad, instead of using the expedited transfer. Also handy for large separations of harvesting :)
Harvesting Planets I have 2 setups like this (please keep in mind I use 7day or 14 day cycles normally as I couldn't be bothered managing 54 planets on a short cycle)
Extracter Head | Basic Factory - Launch Pad - Basic Factory | Basic Factory
Manufacturing planets I have 5 Launch Pads in a row with Factories surrounding them
Factory | Factory - Launch Pad 1 - Factory | Factory - Launch Pad 2 - Factory | Factory - Launch Pad 3 - Factory | Factory - Launch Pad 4 - Factory | Factory - Launch Pad 5 - Factory | Factory
It may be more factories than that but you get the general idea. For Coolant I have Water in LP 1 and 5, Electrolytes in 2 and 4, and the Coolant Gathering in LP 3 |

for a p1->p3 factory i never had to worry about this. 2 pads, 2 silos, with 1 of each being for each p2 material. import first p1, transfer to silo, import second p1, done. Fighting is Magic |

Just stunned that I have been doing PI literally since day 1 and had no idea the bigger links shortened that cool down. It's been 3 1/2 years. I have not had a reason to upgrade a link in a really long time, so had not observed any changes of course.
