I don't know if this would qualify exactly as a topic for EvE online, but they have the makings of an excellent screensaver in this game.
I had to send my capsule to pick up a new ship. The trip was 18 jumps one way. I wasn't in a hurry, so I set the capsule on autopilot. Just on impulse, I turned off the H.U.D. (heads up display, Ctrl+F9) and watched.
A child came in while I was watching this and was captivated by the scenery. The child's father saw this and asked where I got such an interesting screensaver.
When I told him it wasn't a screensaver, he was increduous. He said it should be a screensaver.
I agree. |

I agree as well. EVE screensaver could show for example a Rifter flying through several systems in (eventually) circular route. Camera would rotate to show the Rifter from several angles and show all those amazing looking planets along the way. I'd use that. |

Highsec for pods on auto pilot is definitely not safe, just saying. |

why not? my alts do it all the time. if someone wants to drop two full points of sec status and a catalyst to dumpster an empty pod, well, that just gives me killrights. |

I suppose you could FRAPS your own video and make it into a screensaver. |

You broke into someone else's house then? Also my idea of an EVE screensaver would be a PI launch pad slowly filling up with PI. Pretty much sums up about half the game. |

I didn't break into somebody's house. I was in a lobby and the child and his dad were visiting a fellow student

I like your idea. maybe chose the kingdoms' starter academies as the stations to "check in with" and run a frigate from that particular race until it gets to the next station
Could have Aura do a walk through of the captain's quarters before hopping in the new ride

Not everyone's pods are empty. Besides, you'll have to make the trip again. = P
Yea, don't autopilot in your pod ever. Get a shuttle or something OP. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

Yes but, you forgot the cost of new clone, the inconvenience and the fact that killrights dont mean **** when the player is already -10 using throw away thrashers...
In fact I don't even think autopilot in anything less than assault frigate is wise these days, considering the players i'm talking about hang around the amarr and jita routes, and once or twice had a pop at my alts and myself. |

I had an alt I was auto piloting in a pod about 30 jumps in higsec. After about 30 minutes I tabbed back over to see how he was doing & he was in station. After closer inspection, eve mail was flashing & noticed he was in station he started out in. I had been podded. The alt that got podded had no implants in him, was going to Jita to buy them. The guy that shot him got nothing out of him but a sec status hit. It did cost me like 2 mil to upgrade his clone again. I had to manually fly him to Jita, which sucked. R.I.P. Vile Rat |

Well there is a concept for your screen saver.
Simply film your pod from undock in high sec as well as his entire journey out to null sec until he gets podded back to his original station.
Seamlessly loop it from that point on and you have either the perfect screen saver or a re-enactment of most new players first several days in EVE. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

hate to remind you guys this, but I was watching.
and the only times my pod had been killed is when the ship it was wearing was stripped from it.
I admit I am new, but I wasn't travelling in low sec. In deed, no system I went thru was below .6
Figures you guys would COMPLETELY ignore the main point of the entire post (probably because you hadn't thought of such an obvious idea).
The main idea is EvE transits lend themselves greatly toward a wonderful screensaver and I think such should be done.

Let the guy fly in a pod if he wants to fly in a pod!
A screensaver would indeed be awesome. EVE is pretty to look at. Before the game got a launcher, I used to start the game and let it sit at the login screen for a nice view with ambient music. Though I must agree with Hra Neuvosto; I don't really use screensavers anymore. My computer or laptop goes into sleep mode when I'm not using it. |

On topic of flying auto pilot, funny is that the tutorial even teaches new players how to use it with no warning at all.
Friend of mine went To Jita 18 jumps or so in an industrial, going to be afk he said. Don't I said they'll pop you. Nah, he said it's empty (my ship), why would they even bother? Because they can I replied but he didn't listen, set his indie to auto and went afk only to return an hour later to find he was back where he started in a fresh new clone.

*nods*
I remember the last time I thought it would be ok afking in a shuttle, I had just came back to the game from a long break, I was alt tabbed reading forums, patch notes etc. Then for some reason I alt tabbed back to the game and witnessed my shuttle being targeted and shot at, luckly the first volley didn't do it, and I manged to cancel auto pilot and warp off :P I sat there thinking what bloody idiot did that and more importantly why?
Turns out it was just some random doing it for a cheap lolol u mad? (yes these people do exist) |
